it's been a while since i started one of these things so i'll take advantage of a late bedtime and get it going.

hey all, hope you're doing well. i try to take a peek in here and read every now and then, but with so much travel lately and with work being as ballistic as it is i haven't had much time for horsing around.

running? none for me.

but i did just buy a bike. so as soon as i get over the sticker shock and put some miles in, i'm sure i'll feel better about the purchase. i don't actualy get the bike until later next week so i'm really chomping at the bit. i went out for 2 test rides and worked up a good lather doing it. let me tell you, breathing in the cold air and having it blow in my face felt unbelievablly good. what a stress reliever those brief rides were, even though they were probably only 5-10 miles total!

it was great to hook up with moon last week and i'm bummed that kris was a week late in getting out to the left coast. i'm thankful that he was responsible the night we went out - i certainly wasn't (shocker, huh?).

well, go get 'em and get to exercising. i need a dankinia-like (was that her kr name?) update on the recent goings-on around here. anyone?

one of my best friends is stepping in for me and running boston on what would have been my #. in return, i'm helping him fundraise to exceed his goal for the Respite Center (the same charity I have run for the last 8 years). If interested in supporting the cause, please send me a note.

duck/jen, i'm hanging in hopkinton on sunday and monday AM and will be in the city afterwards. got plans that you feel like sharing? a PM may be best.

cheers

I'm up earlier than I wanted to be because Dh isn't home yet and Gus was yipping the we need to pee yip up on the landing. No sleeping through that. Plus I don't want a waterfall of pee to clean up.

Haven't run much this week. Sick. I'm waiting for my right eye to shoot out of my head or my forehead to split open. Either one would be a relief. Because of my gut I'm severely limited in what drugs I'm able to take, and the one I can has been recalled. GAAAAAA!

Have to move a bunch of stuff around this morning so my dad has room to install some shelves he built in my studio. WOOHOO for the shelves, but man, this is bad timing for me to bend over a lot.

Is anyone else excited to see the effect of biking on Dan's quads? Please swing back in a month and post some pictures for the curious.

I'm up for my long run. Schedule says 18. That seems SO far. Super nice weather though (30's and sunny!), so just planning on taking it easy and enjoying the run.

Good luck to Brandy and Baggs on the Ron Daws 25k this morning! Tough training run for them, but perfect weather.

Good runs to all today!

Man what a morning. It started nice as I slept til 9 am. I thought no problem, it is good extra rest. I head out to the park for my first four miler since 2008. Little did I know I had two factors against me: it was a sunny 75 degrees and I was still wearing the long jogging pants that I slept in last night. I normally do not eat anything before morning runs and only had about 10 oz of water before the run on the drive over. The end result is that between 10 and 11 I am running with no food and little drink in me. Needless to say I was a zombie for most of the run. It was all I could do to muster the willpower to not quit. My legs actually felt good the entire run which was nice. My pace was really good for me during the first two miles. However this was one of the first runs I can remember where my wind/breathing was taxed severely. My mouth felt dry the entire run. That was probably a combination of all of what I mentioned above.

I felt like I was in a 12 round fight with Mike Tyson in his prime and the ref refused to stop the fight! ROFL. But you know how you talk to yourself sometimes? Sometime around mile three I said to myself "I'm dieing, this is agony!" to which I am surprised that something inside me immediately answered "No, you are WORKING on getting better". I was like whoa! Where did that come from? hehe

Anyway next week I hope I can get up earlier and run before it gets hot and sunny. Also I will adjust to the weather and dress appropriately.

I did have a moment of doubt though which troubled me. About mid way through the run I asked myself why did I want to run a 10k in exactly 4 weeks from now????? What was my motivation? Why am I doing it? Right now I don't have an answer. Maybe it's just a little negativity because of the hard run today. That's probably it. Next time when I have a great run I'll be excited about the 10k.

Either way this was a super taxing run but I made it and learned a few things in the process. I'm so glad I didn't quit!

Have a great weekend of fitness everyone.

I know right? I just followed my normal (5:45 am) routine: hop out of bed, put the shoes on and head out to the park. It was not until I was there that I realized I should not have been in such a hurry. As I said I will gauge the elements better next time

morning

Race weather was perfect for me but the race..meh. What we were supposed to do was 7 miles at LR pace then up to 6 miles at GRP and then cool down. the race was 2 loops including THAT hill Cindi but no Baker Rd due to snow/ice. LR Pace was not LR pace as we had someone pushing faster than I wanted for the first 4 miles and then GRP wasn't GRP due to the course and the fact I was pretty well spent already. My left hammy was tweaking on the downhills and the tingling got progressively worse until 14 miles when it cramped....boo. Overall, I am not happy with the results but it is done and detailed below. New sunglasses worked out awesome though!

I finished off the morning with a beer, a blt and a cup of soup. Now off to nap!

Dan, I owe you a PM. I'd be happy to both take you up on the starting area offer and to support your cause. I'll be staying with Moe. There's a Sunday afternoon meet/greet lunch being planned in the PRT forum.

Bob, someone needs to resurface that track!

Way to tough out the hard miles, KP, Maples and Brandy and nice work on the long run RFTL!

I'll get in my last long run pre-Boston on the TM while watching the Final 4 this evening. I'm eating chili for lunch, so I should be supercharged!

I'll definitely be out there to cheer for you and I'll be able to assist you guys in any way you might need help. I don't think I'll be able to cut the course and run with you like I did with Jen, Moon and Bob, but maybe I'll be able to move about on my bike and try to get some pics for you and your family. Don't worry about the heat too much. We don't retain heat overnight because of the Pacific breezes, so even on our hottest days it cools down overnight for morning races.

Woot to all of this!! Looking forward to meeting you in "real life."

BoB - remind me never to hit your track for an interval workout!

I did 8.25 slow recovery miles. The sun was shining and it was 50 degrees! Woot. I was dog tired though. DH had a big childhood cancer fundraiser dinner he was putting on. It was a huge success, but a very late night (think 2:00 am).

yeah, half marathon tomorrow at Talladega, Nascar style. Yes, this race is run on the and around the race track. Basically, we run over the entire facility. It's a ton of fun. Then, there's a big after part in the Nascar garage. Unlimited beer, and i'm not driving. By 9:30 tomorrow morning, I'll be drinking beer and eating BBQ and catfish tacos. Yum! This race is big fun.

Nice long runs people.

boB - I just bought a new mtn bike to trail ride with my kids. Yeah it was $$$ and it was reasonable. some of the the mtn bikes in the store, yikes! I also have a road bike and I'm hoping to ride it more once I get beyond my goal marathon.

18+ miles on the TM during hoops tonight. I shut it down when my right hip felt a little wonky. No way I'm gonna hurt myself (more) at this point in time!

I need to pick up a Butler jersey. I wonder if the IT director at Butler would make a swap with me for an Oregon jersey?
