Greetings, everyone.

This weekend, I have elected not to start us of with music. While I know life must continue for all of us, it just didn't seem right to list fun/party tunes, knowing that two members of our family are facing a very hard weekend. To be respectful, musical weekend threads will resume next week.

Fun: Heading to a former co-worker's cookout later today and bringing some homemade salsa. I hope the things didn't turn TOO spicy overnight. One was mildly spicy, and the other had a pretty good after-kick. If they got stronger overnight.. egads, they're going to be powerful!!

Have fun at the cookout Ailarie!

Hope you sell a lot of yarn bowls Kath!!

Good luck to your DD at her softball game, Amichel!

I'm sitting here trying to think if there is anything else I need to add to my paper before I hit the submit button. I hate having to write papers that ask what I would do in the situation.

So, yesterday, DD asked me if she could start wearing makeup and put some pink coloring in her hair. I'm having an easier time with the pink hair than the whole makeup thing.

busy weekend with house hunting (DH's contract was renewed early) so we're moving forward to see what is on the market at this time and whether or not we want to buy. scared shitless.

my sister and i went to see bridesmaids last night which was entertaining but i'd recommend as a rental and only if you're bored ;)

ok, so major nerd alert. my DH has gotten me into watching battlestar galactica... and i rather enjoy it. i'm not a sci-fi geek at all, but BSG actually has a good plot line with character development. we were desperate for something to occupy us while we wait for the next season of glee.... heh.

My plans for the day include doing some work around my apt. Not sure what else I will do. There is a festival near downtown this weekend that I could go to, maybe with my friend tomorrow.

Becca- I don't know if this helps at all, but my sister's 12 y/o daughter wants to wear makeup and my sister rarely wears it so asked advice. I said to get a light colored eyeshadow (like peach or pink) and a grownup colored lipgloss to start. At that age, that is the most any girl would need to wear and was enough to satisfy her. My sis is allowing her to practice with it this summer and will allow more regular usage when school begins. I think she figures that will make it less likely that her DD will sneak around wearing more garish makeup when parents aren't around. Also, her DD is very tall and thin and just now starting to develop a bit, so this is a way for her to feel more grown up going into jr high since her body is taking its time compared to her friends. My sis actually also allowed her (then 12) year old sun to dye his hair a few different colors last summer on the condition that it was cut before school began since they go to Catholic school. Sis figured she'd better pick her teenage battles and these were 2 things where she could be flexible to a point.

Becca - I agree with Bard's suggestion. Saying flat-out "no" probably means DS will figure out a way to do it anyway. Also, guide her on proper makeup application. With no self confidence, I remember at 12 years old, I PILED on the blue and green eye shadows, and quite frankly I probably looked like a lady of the evening. At some point, Dad said "Enough" and took me to Merle Norman. A couple of hours later, (and mucho dinero, too), we walked out with me looking like a tasteful young lady. Low-toned pinks and peach colors were used, (no mascara or eyeliner) and I felt SO much better about my appearance. Good luck!

Missy - Good luck with house hunting. Also, I am a BSG fan. Huge one. I'm sure you've seen the term "FRACK!" appear from me numerous times in here. Now, you know where it came from. :)

Yes. I just purchased tickets for the Lion King for Saturday night. Otherwise, no definite plans. We're hoping to just take it easy and explore at the kids pace! Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet up with you and Maria and any of the other east coasters that feel like heading in to the city for a visit!

I wound up giving her a makeup tutorial and told her it would be awesome if we could practice all summer to get the right looks for her. She was cool with that. I have to work on my husband a little bit for the hair color part. I would rather do it sooner than later so it's gone by August 29th (first day of school). We'll see how it goes!

Hi all - fun so far has been a stop at the local farmers market. All the stone fruit are coming into season and there were some fine examples for the tasting and buying. Going to look for some recipes to create some more scrumptiousness from my haul.

Becca - I got a hunch your DD is probably thinking she's got a pretty cool mom

Missy - big BSG fan as well, both the campy original version and the reboot. I kinda' lost the story line after the second season tho' and I'd love to pick it up sometime down the road. Hope the house hunting goes well too!

boB and Ailarie - sounds like you have some yummy ventures today.

Hi everybody!

I am back from Wyoming and ready to jump back into real life. Sorry I have been gone so long. I did see Kate and Maureen's sad news. Continued hugs and healing vibes to the both of them and their families.

Have I missed anything else? I feel like the last 6 weeks have been a complete whirlwind. But our vacation was absolutely fantastic. Amazing. Wonderful. And wow did we ever need it. This was our first full week family vacation - just taking off without visiting extended family. We had such a wonderful time and I feel 100% confident that my kids will never forget it. It was so hard to leave this morning though.

Oh, and my fitnessing was terrible while we were gone. We stayed in Grand Teton National Park and I was a bit paranoid about running by myself through the woods early in the morning with all of the wildlife - particularly many of them with cubs/babies. There was a mother grizzly bear with 3 cubs that we saw 3 different times. I was a bit gun shy about running through the woods by myself with that going on. And while Yellowstone was packed with people, the tetons were pretty quiet. So, training officially starts on Monday.
