Have you gone to the Shoe Whisperer??

I'm up but not able to run yet because I'm waiting for DD's 12 girlfriends to wake up so I can make pancakes for them. Though I still heard them at 3:30 a.m., so not sure they will be up anytime soon!

Plan on doing 6 - 8 with tempo stuff mixed in later and 16 tomorrow.

No race for me today.

Major storm moved through the area that delayed the start by at least an hour (it was still lightning heavily when after consulting with my personal safety committee the decision was made to go home). Running is fun and all, but it's not worth dying for. Plenty of people were waiting it out when we left and I hope the race went off without a hitch, but not a risk I was willing to take*.

So, I'll get some miles in later and do my MP workout tomorrow.

*The current lightning policy endorsed by the NCAA and NATA calls for waiting 30 minutes after the last lightning strike/thunder before resuming outdoor activities...and that's not what the race director was doing. So I took my shoes and went home.

That sucks KP. But better to not get zapped.

I ran 3 and then walked Gus almost 3. On the way home had a nice chat with an old (81 y/o) man mowing the lawn. He was mowing right next to the sidewalk when we walked past, and supposedly he shut it off so as to not scare Gus. But Gus wasn't phased by the mower, wasn't even looking at the man. I think he just wanted to pet Gus.

I might get in a run this weekend but probably not until tomorrow. Didn't wake up til 11 am today, which was about 10 hrs of sleep. Oooh, I needed that. But football is now beginning plus I need to make a quick run to the store and my sister will be here in a few hours for the night. So, tomorrow. I will run tomorrow.

Hello all,

I'm in the car on the way back to Knoxville from the race. I'm really pleased with my day given my challenges with training in the hot summer months. I finished with a 3:16 33 wich is a PR and another oh so close BQ. I managed the race perfectly and only need to hold about 7:50 pace in the last 3 miles or so to get in under 3:15, but three things happened. 1. There was a $hit load of HMers in the way and I had to go all VOO on their A$$es to get them the eff outa the way. I was yelling at a snarky chick inside 1.2 miles to go when I felt my calves start to cramp up...bad. For a moment I had a vision of me on my hands and knees crawling to the line. And, it got hot in the last 30 -45 mins. My stomach was OK, but I didn't take my last Gu at 2:45 cause I just didn't think I could choke it down. I was dumping two cups of water on my head at every stop. Did I mention that having HMers clogging up the course was a bit of a pain. (That's not a dig at HMers. My Dad was in the Half today. Thats a dig at the organizers who put the slower HMers in my way.)

So, we're going to stop in Lexington to get a big meal and watch some college football before making our way back to Knoxville. I think I'll get a nap in the car.

I got to spend a few mins visiting with Pacer yesterday at the expo and before the start this morning. My dad said he was flying when he went by him at mile 20.

How'd our other racers do?

Sorry about the race, KP, but you are right...better to call it than risk it.

Tim--GREAT work today and PR even if it was a little low of a BQ. I can imagine your frustration! At the Madison Marathon they had the same issue and I felt horrible for the full marathoners (I was in the half)--they had to expend so much energy telling the halfers to get out the way at about the 20 mile point so a lot of us halfers were calling and trying to get people to move over. Sadly, people just don't listen or could do it fast enough, which cost lots of runners serious time. Hope the cramping is better?

I had a great run this AM but paying for it a bit now. I aimed for 12 and thought it would be a slow pace (tempo yesterday), but got out there and ran it in 1:45, blazing for me for that distance (9:33). The only issue was that a local boyscout troop was cleaning and took my stashed water and gatorade. Therefore, I ran 11 on one bottle (wayyyy not enough) and called it at 11 as I realized I was getting seriously dehydrated.

As it stands, I was...I feel awful now. Ooooggggllyyyyy tummy and crampy. Yup.

Hip is OK...it's certainly the shoes. Going tomorrow for new ones. RFTL--wanted the whisperer, can't get in until Thurs.

Uggggg - runningahead issues. Trying to upload garmin data and the status thing where it normally says "transferring tracks" or whatever is now saying "Status: Don't know device's capabilities". WTF? If my miles won't transfer to my log, I feel like I didn't run 'em. Grrrrrr. Anyone have ideas?

Is it transferring to online? Mine did the same funky thing today, but told me it didn't recognize my Garmin and I'd have to re-initiate it, so maybe it's an online glich. Great. On the fastest run of the season. Thanks, dudes..

Howdy folks - first off, sucks about the race kp (sapped by the weather is one thing, zapped is another and much less desireable)

Woohoo Tim! 3:16 - super speedy dude

Well, I'm back from my 30K training run/trail race - all I have to say was that was the most BROOTAL end to a race that I've ever run in with that final 10K loop. The 20K portion before that felt like a proverbial piece of cake.

Here's how nasty that last 10K was - even taking into account that the 20K loop is on the short side (19.5 km) and the 10K loop is a little long (10.3 km), it took me only 20 min more to complete the 20K loop than it did the 10K loop (roughly 1:50 vs. 1:30). The winning time for the 10K folks was just sub-46, and I still don't know how that was possible to be that fast.

But last long run is in the books now - didn't take any headers during the run (though I came close several times) and no twisted/injured feetsies and ankles, so it's all good for the taper to TCM

Great job yesterday, Tim! It was getting pretty warm and very crowded towards the end of the race - way to gut out the PR!

I had a pretty good day too - I thought on a GREAT day I was in shape to run around 2:51+ and once I got loose I felt really comfortable clicking off 6:25-6:35. There was NO ONE to run with - I left a friend of mine and another guy around mile 4 and the rest of the day was like this: see someone WAY off in the distance, reel them in over the next 3-4 miles, pass them and then repeat that process. I think I passed 8-10 people after mile 8, so that gives you an idea of just how spread out it was. I hit the back of the half marathon pack around 17 and had to dodge them for a few miles, then they split off and we reconnected with the middle part of the HM a few miles later. It was good & bad versus last year - they had some barriers set up at the reconnecting point which seemed to make the HMers aware that marathoners were coming through. I was running with people in the 1:40 range which I thought would help vs. passing people running slower, but their pace was too tempting to slow down to! I had to remind myself I wasn't racing them so I had to keep my pace going! My legs started getting crampy at 22 (along with seeing a dude blow major chunks) and then I was fine until the last 2 miles, so I wound up losing a little time. A few friends jumped in the for about a half mile and as soon as the last one left me I spazed up big time with the finish line in sight! Still -I'm really happy with a 2:53:28...good enough to get some payback (the girl who won the bet that forced me to wear a skirt has to sport some Steelers gear on a group run - her husband is NOT happy about that!)
