It's eeeearly.

But I'm used to getting up every couple of hours with Maggie, so it's not too bad. Radioyada and I are heading out for a 10k.

Happy (and safe) runs to all this weekend!

About to go for a shirtless run on this 30 degree day...of course, it will be in the basement on the TM but still!! I'm actually a little nervous about the group long run tomorrow. We're doing 4 repeats of a 2 mile hill (actually about 1.75 mile climb with a flat section before and after the hill to make it 2 miles on the nose). It will be tough - my plan is to take it easy on the up section for the first 2 reps while pushing the pace on the downs, then hard on the way up for #3 and recover on the way down, and then all-out up AND down for the last one. I figure this will be good practice for the hills in Boston - tenderize the old quads with some hard downhill miles early and then push hard on some uphills late.

Good luck to anyone racing this weekend - I think it's a quiet weekend for that, no? Also good luck to long runners and anyone having to struggle to get out the door!

I think we're going snow tubing later with the girls...I give it a 40% chance of success with the 18 month old. I picture her screeching in my ear the whole way down the hill.

Good luck, Ailairie and Radioyada!

No run for me today - saving up for tomorrow. I might just get over 10 this week!

The wrist and shoulder are doing better today - I think my post got overlooked, I slipped on my run and landed squarely on my arm yesterday. Damn snow-covered slippery sidewalk! So, I'm thinking I'll skip a trip to the urgent care and just keep icing and such.

Good runs to all this weekend - TM or crazy-outdoor-hills or whatever you do!

Is it me or is the Quote function not working lately??

I cannot wait to go to the gym this morning.
Maybe I'll do 2 or 3 miles. At last!!

Noni, I read your post, didn't comment, but really hope you heal up soon and that it's no big deal. You have been having your fair share of bad luck lately!

Good luck Ailarie on your 10k today!!

PC, your youngest sounds like mine ... she was screaming and crying on the sled yesterday. I just don't think she's a snow person. She's 2.

Noni feel better! I hope it's just a bruise/sore and nothing more serious. Too many broken bones in this group this year due to the ice!

Ailare & Radio hope the 10k went well!

Speaking of ice, the barely above 0 temp this morning and a busy day forced me once again on the TM. 6 miles. Off to work now.

Oh Norah! I didn't see your post! I hope it's not anything serious.

Good luck Ailarie and Radioyada on your 10k!

Good luck Frankie on your 5k!

Good luck to any and all other racers and runner this weekend!

I gotta get outside. It's supposed to be in the 30s this weekend! Heat Wave! But I'm feeling crappy. TMI alert - woke up at 4 a.m. with cramps so bad I thought I was going to have to use Lamaze breathing to cope until the drugs kicked in.

So I'm drinking tea and eating oatmeal and I'll just play it by ear today.

Happy trails all!

BigG, that sounds bad. I wish I had some kind of advice to give.

Noni, I am crossing my fingers that you didn't do any semi-serious damage to your arm.

QOW: Is knowing the race course helpful? In Pacer's post above he talked about his strategy for making his run more Boston-like; does anyone else do that? Do you think you end up performing better because of it?

Records highs again today, I'm just going to run on the TM this morning and most likely tomorrow, as well...yesterday was just not "safe" running outside in the heat, and today is already upper 80's. I hope there is something good on TV, just 8 scheduled today. I might try to bump up the speed to get it over with quicker.

Here is something awesome, I think! The super duper long term 2 week forecast (that will probably change) has the Gate River Run in the 30's in the morning. It might actually be a little too cold for me.

I guess I need to get some cooler weather race clothes together anyway for that possibility at Boston. What do you guys suggest? The only additional race worthy clothes I have now would be a couple of tanks. I've looked at maybe ordering some arm warmers, anyone use those? Or should I just get a long sleeved tech shirt?

Good Luck to all the racers this weekend! Noni, feel better.

Pacer, have fun tomorrow on the hills. You are going to kick butt in Boston! That workout sounds a lot more rewarding and strength building than my sad little TM setup here or my fake 1/4 mile bridge "hill" I've been trying to work with.

Okay, I've been putting off the TM long enough...

It's been working fine for me...

Anyhoo, despite Maria's urging last night to "man up" and run outside, I wussed out and went to the gym, prepared for my longest-ever TM run. But alas, the gym was freakin' crowded and I got kicked off after just 50 minutes (5.3 miles). So I guess I paid the price for not manning up. I can't recall the last time I went to the gym on a Saturday morning, so I had no idea it would be that crowded.

Well, I've got nothing to do this afternoon. So maybe I will finally do my first-ever double. I've still got almost 10 miles that I want to run today. Maybe I won't quite do all that, but at least 5 more would be in order, I think. We'll see. I've wanted to do doubles before, but just got too lazy. Hopefully this time I'll actually do it. Check with me again in another 4 hours or so...

Morning Gang -

Sounds like a quiet racing weekend. Good Luck to Frankie, Radioyaya and Ailaire!

Jill - hope your first day back to running goes well. That must be exciting to get back to it!

Pacer - repeats of a 2 mile hill sound hard! Hope it goes well.

It was beautiful running weather this morning. 13 degrees, but no wind and very sunny. I did 6 easy miles plus striders. Felt great. Thought of LL as I passed an old house that the fire department was at - they must have been doing a controlled burn of it for a training exercise or something. Looked weird to see a house burning down but no one in any particular hurry.

Good runs to all!

JenRuns I just got some arm warmers this week and will give them a go tomorrow. I think I'd be more likely to use them in a race than a workout - I don't mind being a little too overdressed in a workout but in a race I'd like the flexibility to wear a sleeveless shirt without freezing my ass off before the race. I usually have some throwaways for marathons - I HATE being uncomfortable before a race and I have a load of old t-shirts. If I were you, I'd save the purchase of colder weather running gear until you get to Boston. If you're going to spend the $, you might as well make it official BAA garb. Plus the weather could be anywhere from 30's (like 2007) to 86 degrees (2004). If you wait till race weekend, you can get the right thing for sure and have the little unicorn on it as a bonus!

QOW I like knowing the race course beforehand. I was the same as a golfer...if I found a decent course I loved playing it over and over to try to improve. Plus for a race, knowing the course you can strategize, which I get a kick out of doing.
