I'm throwing pots today. Hopefully they'll turn out ok. I still feel like I'm 100.

Btw, I realize that 18 is a heat wave for some of you people in Minnesota and what-not. But it's a little colder than I'm used to...

Hola Kath and Bob!

I dreamed I was racing (and very unprepared). Does that count?

Bob - I agree.. 18 would not be a temperature I'd particularly look forward to!

I will walk a few miles at a minimum today. May even try my luck at a run to see if the mouth isn't so sensitive anymore. Cross your fingers!!! (otherwise that unprepared HM dream may very well come true, since I have one on Feb 13th!)

I took Penny out for a decent walk at 7:30 this morning, and I have to admit...it's COLD, even for me, who likes winter. It's a little colder here than at boB's, like 15F. I am hoping to get in a short run today, but will call my walk my initial mileage for the challenge if I don't.

I'm approaching the challenge as any miles count. I just need to get moving.

I'm also attempting to rein in my eating, so breakfast was a low fat latte that I made, 5 strawberries and 1/3 of a leftover baked potato with salt and pepper.

Mmmmm a latte sounds good Moe! I may try to whip up some semblance of one.

It's 9 degrees with a feels like -7. And it just started snowing again. I ran 2 miles outside last night in the snow and it was tough. Pelting stinging snow in my eyes and rotten footing. There are some folks in the the hood that have apparently given up on snow removaling for the season? So I figured I'd hit the gym treadmill, however, there's a Wellness Event going on and I'm betting it's going to be a zoo today, so if I go to the gym it'll be after 5:00, it may be okay out this afternoon and I'll get outside. We'll see. It's only 4 miles.

I am in the same boat as BigG. I was hoping to do my long run today as the weather forecast appeared better. We;;, the high is something like 20 degrees, but with the wind chill, the warmest it is supposed to get is around 2 degrees and we are no where near that yet. Plus, we got a few inches of snow last night. Gah. Guess I'll hit the treadmill for 6-10 then do my LR tomorrow.

Ugh. Wow, that was a struggle. I didn't make it to 20 miles. I managed 17.5, but it felt like much more than that. I suppose there could be some reasons for that: A) This was my first run over 12 miles since the Charlotte Marathon more than a month ago; 2) There was still a bit of snow underfoot which made for a slow go; and D) I'm still carrying the few extra pounds I put on over the holidays.

At least it warmed up a bit. It was 35 degrees by the time I got back home...

Bob - 17.5 sounds good enough, all things considered! And 35 degrees sounds heavenly!

I'm heading out for 15 miles of hills soon. I started googling to try to find out more about Little Rock's course and everyone is talking about the first 16 miles being hilly. WTF? I didn't realize that! Luckily I've already been doing hill stuff at least once a week, but I'm gonna step up the hill training from here on out. 13 degrees, windchill of -2. At least the sun is out!

I'm 100% certain that running in the snow takes a lot more out of you than just running on the pavement. OK I'm inspired! Between youse guys and the two folks I saw out on the path on my way to the store - I'm likely going to head outside for my wee 4 miler after all. It's not totally sunny out but it's bright, and that does help. I just gotta get my running duds dry first, I'm outta pants/tights! While they're in the dryer, I'm going to make pie and ice cream.

It does. When I was doing the Low Heart Rate running last winter (or maybe the winter before??) my pace was much slower at the optimal HR than when I ran on clear pavement (still in same temps). I can't remember the numbers, I have them somewhere on my old blog, but I remember that the numbers were way different (confirming it is a lot more work to run on snow, even packed snow.

Nice work boB. I had similar weather, but a touch warmer. We started at 6:30am local time and it was 26. It warmed up to 38 by the time we finished. I did manage to get all 20 miles, and our streets were clear of snow and ice but for a few little spots. I'm glad that's over. We've got to finish putting away the Christmas stuff, then I can settle in for some NFL football and maybe a movie with the kiddos.

I don't think I was aware that Little Rock was hilly, but meh. That's becoming par for the course for me lately. I didn't know that Charlotte was hilly until I arrived in town and everyone was talking about it. Well, at least I know in advance about Little Rock! And if only the first 16 miles are hilly, then the last 10.2 should be a breeze!

Yeah, I saw Little Rock was pretty hilly when I was checking out the half. Hopefully it will be a nice course though.

Nettie - sorry I missed seeing you last night. Hope to see you for beers or a run, or both, soon!

Saw on twitter that Baggs kicked butt in International Falls! 2011 is gonna be his year!

The hills are gonna be fun, boB. They will make us appreciate the beer and festivities all that much more when we are done! The thought of them gave me a much-needed kick in the butt. I blogged about The Hills.

Good work on the long runs RFTL, Tim and Bob!

7.25 on the TM for me today. I really miss the roads, but life has been crazy so I'll take what I can get!

Since I've got 215 hours of vacation time built-up I'm thinking about taking 2 hours a day x 5 days x 10 weeks to try to get myself whipped into shape and actually do the rehab exercises I've been neglecting. I'd earn 37 hours in the meantime, so my net loss would be 63 hours leaving me with 152 for Boston and summer vacations. Is that a crazy plan?

Great blog post Cindi!

I ended up at the gym at 7:00 pm getting my run in. bah. DS was all kinds of really ugly behavior and I didn't feel right leaving the house. We finally got some peace and I felt okay to go. O well, at least I got to run - and I needed it after today. oof. I hope tomorrow is nice and sunny too and I can get out for my wee 3 miler.

And now I'm home and just ate a big ass tray of nachos and am drinking a Guinness and I KNOW this will make me feel like shit but I don't care.

It is a degree.

RFTL, I'm glad I read your blog post. Now I have a better idea what I'm up against in Little Rock...

Tim, you had a great run yesterday. If I'm complaining about the cold, I can't imagine how you southerners are dealing with it.

And nice treadmill work by some of you other folks...

I think I really might need a day off today. I've logged a run on each of the last 11 days, and I think I could use a day off...
