Really? No fitness/run thread yet?

9 phenomenal miles for me today. With the impending weather doom (6-8" of snow tomorrow into Monday) I took advantage of the weather today and got my long run done.

2 mile warm up then 2x10 min at tempo pace. Goal pace for the tempo portions was 9:20. Hit 8:58 and 8:48. Then an hour easy. Only made it 45 minutes (didn't want to have to rush to get to work) but it was a great run.

And yeah, I'm planning some sort of time trial to gauge my fitness and adjust my paces.

Nice run, KP!

I was actually almost ready to start a Fitness thread before I saw yours...

I just did 12 nice miles. I don't think I'm as thrilled with my run as KP was with his, but I'll take it. It's a lot colder than yesterday (30 degress colder!) and it's windy as heck. But I finished the last few miles a lot faster than the first few, and that's what I was trying to do, so I'll take it...

NICE runs this morning! Wooty hoo hoo!!!

I hit the gym for a Cable class today. When the instructor walked in the woman next to me said "ooh, it's Linde. He. Is. Tough." And she was right. My arms were totally shaking trying to blow dry my hair afterward. Even now, typing this is a bit of a struggle. I am sure I'm going to hurt tomorrow. Another thing I like about this class is that I'm really paying attention to how much I'm working my upper body so that I don't really realize how much my core and legs are getting worked....until class is ending. Then, oof.

I ran a mile on the treadmill before the class started - I was going to run three but people were lining up for the class already so I cut it short and got in line. Good thing I did otherwise I wouldn't have gotten in. There's only 18 machines in the room so attendance is limited. I had thought I'd run on the track for a couple miles after class but the class turned me into toast. I walked up the two levels of stairs to get to the track and my legs were wobbling, so I walked about half a mile around the track and called it a day. But tomorrow is another day! I would really really like to finally make it to this warm yoga class tomorrow. The warm yoga is "shoulder safe" so no chaturunga or downward dogs which I think will be key tomorrow, based on how my arms are feeling today.

Happy running and fitnessing today everyone!!

Well, 8-9-12 are on the board. Who's got 10, 11 and 13?

Not me, not yet. I've got to go work a basketball game, then take Tycho to his basketball game. So maybe I'll go long on the TM after that. Probably smarter than heading out on the bike trails with the crud in my chest.

You are really running great, Kevin. Keep it rolling! This is going to be a year filled with huge PRs for you!

Nice work this morning, people!

Like Bob said, it's Windy with a huge capital W out there. I was not overly motivated to get my LR done this morning, so I opted to run a couple miles, hop right into a hot yoga class, then finish the run with a few more miles. There are trees down, electrical wires down, no power, branches and stuff flying all over -- it's a mess out there. I kept my eyes peeled for falling branches and blowing stuff the whole run, hoping to avoid getting smacked with something. Ended up with 5 miles and 90 minutes of yoga. Even though it was sunny and the temps are good, it wasn't that fun of a run. grr. I'll do 10-12 tomorrow morning before work.

Good luck tomorrow, Maria!

Nice to see your running back on track, Litch!

I agree with Duck, Kp - it's gonna be fun to see your PR's fall this year :)

Hey all - nice work out there. I am in the same boat as KP with icy rain/snow on the way, so I logged my long run today. 20 glorious miles. The sun was shining, it was in the upper twenties, and was just an awesome run. Best part was that last mile was the fastest mile.

DS#1 got slammed with the bug I had yesterday and is laid out on the couch with a fever. I am going to shower up and take DS#2 downtown for an impromptu civics lesson. Happy Saturday!

Afternoon/evening all! I slept in and then got some errands done and then wasted some time not-running only to get out around 3:15 for my miles. I was due to spend some quality hours on the trails but seeing as I haven't run for a few days b/c of my stomach/sick junk I didn't think that most wise. Instead opted for some muddy fun on the bridle path amounting to 8.45 miles and a huge smile on my face.

Great jobs and high fives to KP, boB, Mindi, Lora, Big G, Litch and anyone else not yet reporting for the day.

Big G - is the cable class like a pilates reformer class? Sounds very similar.

Hi Gang -

Great start to the weekend of running for the Parkers! Nice!

Way to get your 20 out of the way Mindi and woot for the last mile being the fastest! That's a good sign.

Tomorrow's 6-12 inches of snow messed up my planned running. I ended up deciding to do my LR today, after a morning of no water, lots of coffee, too little food and then McDonald's for lunch. My legs and stomach felt heavy. My head felt light. It sucked. But I got 16 miles done. Hoping the snow isn't horrible in the morning so i can get a short recovery run in.

Just stretching and walking for me today. Yesterday's double was probably a bit too aggressive. We went to something for the kids on campus and the 4 flights of stairs about did me in. Technically today should have been LR and tomorrow rest. I'll probably do something tomorrow, but I haven't decided what or when.

Greetings, all.

10M are done for me today. In an hour though, I'm walking down to my neighbor's house. She has agreed to finally set aside the time to start exercising, and wants to do some running. Unless she's BS'ing me on her level of activity, this will be a run/walk endeavor of maybe 2 miles. I wont' take her longer than that today. No matter how far we go, or how little she ends up running, I commend her for being willing to try, and I look forward to hopefully being part of a transition towards a healthier lifestyle.

In retrospect however, perhaps I should have planned this on a day where I didn't do my long run. Oof! :)

Equipment question: After finding a GU gel pack to be a little easier to eat than chewing away on my shot blocks (and that my tummy didn't object), I am considering using gels for my next half. Of course, I would need a method to carry them. I've seen belts that are designed just for this purpose, like this one:

(I don't care about the race number part, but do like the little pocket for a subway card or hotel key.)

Stupidly dumb question... how in the heck do the gels STAY in place while you run? Are there little tabs on the belt that you tighten when putting the gels in, that you then loosen when you want to retrieve one, or is it just a matter of feeding a gel pack through and squeezing enough material to the top, so it ends up being wider than the loop holding the gel in the first place? Thanks!

I have a belt like that too, although I pin my gels on - I've had too many fall off.

10 miles for me in the sleet/slush/freezing rain. FYI - freezing rain hurts the face to run in. Fortunately, it was 32 degrees so my feet were okay even though soaking wet. I also shovelled the heavy slush off the drive way. It is supposed to freeze tonight and we are going to have a TON of ice. :(

I have got to start posting every day! I did get in my three runs this week and I walked at the park for an hour today. After actually experiencing a rare "winter" (for us in this region) we had beautiful weather this week. Perfect in fact with high temps in the 60s. I have decided that I will not be ready to run a 5k next Saturday. Yes I could plod along for the distance but my performance would be so far below (probably a near 40 minute run) what I consider acceptable that I do no wish to participate. A disappointment but no big deal. When I made that commitment I had a razor thin time frame to train. Who knew we then would get two rounds of snow in consecutive weeks? Those lost days sealed the 5k fate. But I can still set my sights on the real fun race that we have in our home town. The 15th annual 10k run is on April 30th. I think I am going to register online tonight, spend the money, and make a firm commitment to training for it. I am going to modify the one hour runner program and rock it for the 10 weeks before the 10k. Again that is a razor thin line to train with no room for lost weeks but I'm gonna give it a go! To run for an hour once again will be a major confidence booster. I'm so down on myself right now about my overall health that I hope I can again find the passion to run and achieve. I know the first time around for me the success built upon itself and the fire inside burned brighter with each accomplishment.

I DID make it to the gym for the Warm Yoga class - and I think I liked it. I'll try it again to be sure, but I won't be able to make it to another class until a week from this Wednesday! poops. Going into this, I didn't realize exactly what it was, Bikram Yoga, a set series of 26 poses each time. I think I can get into this. And it wasn't HOT Yoga, the room was at about 85 degrees, not 105, but I was still supah sweaty. Walked the track for half a mile before class.

I need to be getting more running in if I'm going to meet my 1000 mile goal for 2011. I keep telling myself that I'll catch up when the nicer weather hits, and when I start marathon training. Which reminds me that I need to register for TCM.

Evening all and Happy repeat Saturday [for everyone with the day off tomorrow]!!! Have had a great Sunday here, met up with a couple other girls to run the Cherry Tree Relay in Prospect Park this morning. Mother Nature lashed out with some really cold temps and a horrid constant-gusting wind but all in all it was still a lot of fun. Unfortunately there was about an hour betw my warm-up and when my leg was run so I froze up quite a bit and didn't really warm up again until after mile 2 of the leg. This is unfortunate b/c the leg is only 3.35 miles and I'd wanted to run at tempo pace but that wasn't to be. Finished strong and followed up with brunch at a tasty spot in Park Slope. After getting home and napping a bit I popped out for coffee and discovered it had warmed up quite a bit and the nasty wind left so I headed out for a second run, as a fartlek. FUN STUFF!!! 11.55 miles on the day

Last poster perhaps this evening...

14 miles on the treadmill tonight watching T3. I'm surprised I'd never watched it before. The run took me 2 hours and 7 minutes, so that's a nice 15 minute improvement in the "time on my feet" category over last Sunday. My TM rolls over the time after 100 minutes. How weird is that?

I also got in 2 miles of walking this morning and worked in the yard all day otherwise, so I'll be plenty sore tomorrow.

G'night all!
