Just back in from 5 miles. Lovely morning.

Assembling bracelets and earrings and packing them up. That's the last thing I need to do to be ready for tomorrow. Yeehaw. Stupid back hurts. Feels like a knife behind my right shoulder blade, and another in the middle on the left side. Pffththt. It'll probably get worse after hauling everything around tomorrow. Have a chiro monday morning in anticipation of that though. ha.

Wassup with you this weekend? Anyone racing? Holiday parties?

It occurred to me this morning there are only 19 more days till days start getting longer.

Hi Everyone--

Kath pleassseee be careful with your back!! :) I hope your sale goes really well--talented people deserve good things.

Been checking in on you all on and off this week--glad to see Kev is got his cast off and good to see some long lost Kicksters back!! For me it just continues to be a lot of "managing". PT, exercise, rest...it goes back and forth. Some days (and certain positions) better and not much pain, some days more. I'm also noting that diet really plays a role--certain foods make pain worse. It's pretty striking, actually (for example, any really fatty food is awful several hours later). I'm trying to get to the December 19 deadline for some improvement so that we can rule out immediate surgery. Thursday I had a great day after they tried some traction, today, more pain, but I am hopeful that some things help. Sadly, work is not being as patient as I would like, but I"m starting to get the idea of what works and what doesn't. The big lesson here is strength is realllllyyy reallyyy important. I have a new PT that said I am "a study in imbalance". Neato. Stretch and do your good core work, folks.

Anyway, today I walk for while and taking a friend who has been super supportive and helpful later for a pedicure--both of us. I feel bad for the tech as I've been unable to do anything with my feet...they are just damn ugly to start with and now after weeks of neglect they are just...well...ewwww. Extra tip. :)

What's everyone got in terms of running and racing today?

Be good, yous. :)

1) I'm trying. When I can I have other people lift or move stuff for me. The unfortunate thing is Dh's schedule is opposite mine, and now that I'm not working I'm by myself that much more, so there aren't people around to help. If I can wait for Dh to help I will, but there are times I've just got to do stuff myself.

And doing shows.... Sometimes there are people to help move stuff. Depends on the show. This is the first time I'm doing the one tomorrow, so I don't know what kind of support there will be for that.. I did get a cart, so I don't actually have to carry everything, just load/push/unload the cart. Still not ideal, but better than carrying everything.

2) Dude. Chiro has commented more than once that I must have an exceptionally strong core to adapt as well as I do to the amount of twisting going on. He said normal people would be in tears. We were talking about pain the other day, and when I told him it's not that I'm unaware of it, I just sort of relegate it to background noise, he said I'm one of a handful of people he's had in 20 years with stupid high pain tolerance (Thanks mom?) who've described it like that.

When it gets to the point of constantly stabby pain that makes me limp & I can't ignore, it's time for an emergency apmt in addition to my regular weekly. heh.

I really am as careful as I can be. The problem is I have a life.

Howdy!

Craney, good to see you. Just remind yourself that it took a long time to get to this point and it will take a while to get better. (Well, that is also good advice for myself.)

This weekend is cleaning the house. My mom is coming for a visit on Wednesday and with both K and I in varying states of incapacitation, the house is a bit bad. It will be good to have it in order again.

Had a nice sleep-in today. Now I am watching the Conference-USA football championship game. The University of Houston is playing, and I went to grad school there. I lived maybe 300 yards away from that football stadium for 2 years. I just finished lunch and am going to start packing a few more things to take to my storage unit. It's been very handy having that thing, makes it easy to do some preliminary packing ahead of the real move without having boxes build up here in the apartment.

QOW: what sort of holiday decorations do you put up, if any? Pictures? I love Christmas lights, and for years I put up a tree on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I also have about 30 nativities (mostly folk art style), although I don't necessarily display all of them in any given year. However, for the past 4 or 5 years, I haven't really decorated. For a few of those years, it was because my SAD really kicked me in the ass. Now that it is no longer an issue, it's more logistics. Last year I left for California a week before Christmas and this year I didn't want to have to pack all that stuff up on top of the regular packing I'm going. I can't wait for next year!

We started the day with breakfast with Saint Nicolas at church this morning. The kids loved it. Then a haircut and an overdue trip to the grocery store for me, followed by more household catch up. Getting ready to throw some chili together and then wrap some presents while it simmers.

QOD: I seem to either go all out or do nothing. This year is a do nothing year. We decorated a tree at my grandpas, and that is where we will spend Christmas morning. That's enough.

Have a great weekend!

Nice work boB!

QOD: Christmas decorating is Dh's department. His mom used to create a show house every year - EVERY room in the house (bathrooms too!) was decorated full out. Dh doesn't do quite as much to our house, but he usually decorates the mantle and gets the tree out and puts the leg lamp out. Plus lighted trees in pots outside, and... Jeez, I can't think of it all. Sometimes there are lighted greens down the stairwell rail. He pretty much gets free reign with it. I fluff bows and put out seasonal soap dispensers, but that's about it.

Don't know what we'll do this year. The leg lamp is up, but otherwise... WIth refinishing the floors we don't need to get any more crap out than we already have. And we probably won't be done until the week before Christmas, so.... Dunno.

Greetings, everyone!

I ran 5M on the Tm last night with the main light off and my two revolving, multi-colored disco lights on.. jamming to whatever my Ipod happened to be playing. Good times. I just need one of those mirrored balls that hang from the ceiling now!

No running today, other than running errands and handling household tasks. My new blower came in, and I must admit, I had FUN with it. Man, that puppy cleans my driveway so much faster than sweeping it! Rawr!

Cranie - Hang in there, chica. This is not a short-term recovery thing for you, but you ARE on the recovery path now.

Bob - Sweet run!

QoD: I'm pretty simple with decorations, in general. Over the mantle, I place my four-car train set. Many years ago, I had it around a track that cirlced the base of the 6 foot tree. When I would turn the train on, Beauregard would go nuts, barking at it, and eventually head-butting it enough so that it derailed. Every. Single. time. So comical. Of course, he's been gone for 2 years now, but seeing the train brings back that funny memory :)

On the train, I have a few small stuffed animals. (A few beanies, a reindeer that I got as a kid from Burger King once, and a chick-fil-a cow with a santa hat.

I also have a small ceramic tree, which reminds me of being at my grandmother's during the holiday season. My tree sits on a console table, and I suspect that I'll put cards around it. : )

Otherwise, one wreath hangs on the front door. Easy peasy. Everything can be packed and put back up in the storage shed on New year's eve/day within 30 minutes.

I hope that everyone's been having fun today! I spent most of the day in my pjs scanning family photos and clearing out my DVR. I've scanned about 360 photos, and I'm having so much fun going through them. I've never seen a lot of these photos and many are of me when I was little. It's nice to be cute in a photo. Here's one of my favorites:

Notice the leg braces? Awesome.

QOD: My mother made me a stocking and it hangs from my bedroom doorknob 24/7/365. That's the extent of my decorating. However, I used to be less of a grump about the holidays:

And this one just cracks me up to no end:

Hi hi hi hi.

OMG. Prae--I laughed out loud at the toilet one. I seriously wanna borrow that for something. :) 17 miles, Bob...wow, and woot!!!!

Tonya--I didn't realize you were still on the DL, too. What's the prognosis?

Ail--I want a video of you running like that. Did you have Earth Wind and Fire's "September" to groove to?

I had a rough day yesterday with a bit of pain, but took it down and now am better this AM. This is all a journey for sure. I had sort of bad self pity week in "I just want this to be done and want my body back" or "why did this happen to me? 70 year old men who smoke get this...but ME??!" But you know, life is strange and stuff happens... I'm determined to make some real change for healing and not just go back to what I was doing before; patience grasshopper. I am walking up to 1-2 miles per day and doing lots of PT exercises, stretching and very minor strength (lifting one can of tomatoes...hahahahaha) but I'm also pretty weak. 2 miles is long way right now and I have a ways to go. I've overhauled my diet completely, but even then, a year is not unreasonable for full healing, and I may always need to manage this. Better than the alternative, I guess...

QOW: Simple, but tasteful. White lights outside, wreath on the door, pine boughs and candles inside, but not crazy. I am really into the pine bough thing to celebrate yule, but my grandfather also made a manger from wood and that's prominently displayed. My mom did xmas explosion and every single part of the house was always fully decorated. I guess I do that for the luau...:)

Yay! Puppies!! :)

Good morning!

Nice run Bob!

I'm so sorry for what you're going through right now, Crane. I'm so glad you're feeling better.

Cute pictures, Prae!

QOD: We decorate for both Hanukkah and Christmas, so my house looks a little obnoxious on the inside. Outside, we have a wreath and a couple of tiny trees.

Hope everyone is doing well! Our offer on the house was accepted, pending a home inspection. I'm really nervous about it, because it would mean a January 31st move-in date. Too much to do and not enough time!

Hah.. I do indeed! Along with Funkytown, Let's Groove tonight, No Parking on the dance Floor, Freakazoid, YMCA, Boogie Wonderland, Whip it (Dazz band version), and a variety of 70's / early 80's era-appropriate dance/skate tunes. Though I'll admit, it's equally amusing to be running in that environment when Rob Thomas' Smooth or Godlsmack's Cry Like A Bitch comes on! (Anything to pass the time, right?)

Yeah Prae, that last picture is great!

Oof, I feel like crap today. Like I've been hit by a truck. I don't know if it's due (or partly due) to the long run yesterday, or whether its' from lack or sleep, or whether I have a bug of some kind, or a combination of all of that. I'm just glad I have nothing important to do today, so that I can stay home and rest...

Hi all - yesterday was chock full of buying (holiday gifts and other related stuff) and then moving-related activities. Found some interesting stuff that I forgot I had, such as my bowling bag (yes, complete with bowling shoes, wrist supporter and two bowling balls) and homework and other miscellaneous materials from 11th grade all the way until my first years of college. I was staring at some of the physics and math stuff as if it was a foreign language - really, I used to do this stuff when I was younger? Heh!

Today is more of the same; will try to get things squared away for my trip to Florida for work training the next two weeks.

Congrats Becca! Kris and I will be going through the moving in routine ourselves once we sign the lease on what should be our new townhouse (renting at this point, though)

Ugh, boB - I just hope it's just one of those too long a run kinda' things instead of a flu bug or anything. And tired old achy back muscle soothing vibes to you Kath

Good to see you Craney - hope you continue to progress toward the positive.

Prae - that's some fun stuff; that last picture is especially hilarious. I've been scanning a lot of my family's old pics myself; nothing as funny as yours but this is definitely very seasonal (might've been my second or third Christmas ever?)

QOD - haven't thought much about decorating to be honest, since my parents' (or other siblings) have hosted the holiday festivities for the family around these parts. However, we did have a funny incident last night - my dad insisted on buying a fresh tree (they do have a fake tree as an option) but kinda' forgot you do need to keep it watered. The tree was summarily decorated with ornaments, but soon a pile of dried leaves convinced him that the watering stand was an absolute necessity (which meant we had to remove said ornaments in the process so he could dislodge the temporary wood planks at the bottom.)

Hi peeps. Quiet around here this weekend, huh?

We have candles in the windows. This pic does not do it justice, but it is beautiful and my favorite decoration. I think our home is always most beautiful at Christmas time.

Oh, and we ran a 5K today (whole fam). It was great, BUT DS asked me to run with him. I said, yes, but I want to run fast. Then he proceeded to eat 2 BIG breakfasts right before the race despite me telling him not to. Oh, and he went out at a 6:00/mile pace for the first .5. Sheesh. Let's say he learned a lesson. He still finished in 25:xx. I left him a bit after mile 1 because he was hurting and I thought he was going to end up in a negativaty spin (although they are very good at focusing on the positive during races).

Ended up a sweet negative split race for me. Yeah, usually you aren't picking up the pace so much in a 5K and frankly it was awesome. I finished, then found James and ran him in. He was at first upset I left him, but then he understood that you have to run your own race (yes, I felt terrible and the first half of my race I waffled). But he is smart and a good runner, he gets it and I thought it was a good lesson. Is that terrible? He seemed happy and I thought it was the right time. I just told him that sometimes I want to race too. Best part: I said, your two mistakes were: (1) eating too much too close to race; and (2) going out at a 6 m/m pace. He said (for #2), yeah, I'm not ready for that. YET.

That's my boy!!

Not to freak you out, but it took @6 years of concentrated effort to get my gut under control. Apples and oranges, I know, but the difference is day and night. Don't get discouraged if it takes longer than you think it should.

Once you figure out what you need to do, managing becomes habit/lifestyle. It's really not bad.

Dude, I so need them. Thanks.

Today went well, but holy crap it was a long day and my back is killing me. (I'm walking like my mom - AAAAA!) I'm going to spend some time on the peanut, and thankfully chiro is at 9:30 tomorrow morning.

I'll be putting what's left of my pottery stuff up on my blog in the next day or 2.

ps. Moon - I'm going to respond to your email soon. I didn't forget, just trying to figure some stuff out.
