Hi Everyone-

Wow! Brotherleenie is famous-ish! How very cool. I like it when people are recognized for hard work.

Off to run 4 but on the TM easy, easy this morning--later doing some higher intensity stuff and big time arm workout.

Why is it I suddenly can't sleep anymore?

Sorry you are sick, Ail...stay down and feel better!! So many students at school have this something nasty and I'm sanitizing/washing my hands and trying to stay out the sneeze zone like crazy. I do not want sick in October; I've had that the past two years...

Hope Kev is good today?

Happy Birthday, Tim!!!

Hugs to all who need them with parents and kiddos and stress that is tougher than what we'd like it to be...

Yay for Brotherleenie! Hope you feel better, Ailarie.

Happy Birthday, Tim!

As I mentioned late last night, we found out that my mom's breast cancer is back. But the early indication is that it was caught early and she should be okay. She has an appt with the dr tomorrow to discuss treatment options...

As for me, I ran 4 easy miles last night and I'll do a few more tonight...

boB - what ever course of treatment your mom decides on I hope it's successful. Fucking cancer.

Ron - knew there was a reason I liked you! Wasn't a huge Bengals fan growing up but then I worked training camp as an athletic training intern in 1993 and I've been a diehard fan since. Shannon - good stuff about Mr. Leonard!

thanks for all the well wishes...the surgery went very well. Tonya can give more details (she spoke to the surgeon following) but all indications are it went exactly as he thought it would. I had ZERO problems with the anathesia - in fact I was pretty surprised how well I felt and functioned yesterday afternoon...I know Tonya was impressed! - and the nerve block is still working so I'm completely numb from the knee down and can't even wiggle my toes yet. Recovery starts now.

Maria - be on the look for a package in the mail. Sent you your t-shirt/socks/goodie bag from the race this weekend. Even if you didn't run, you paid for it!

KP - glad everything went smoothly. Recover well my friend.

Well, I was up early on this cold, wet, windy, grey morning. Feels like the first day of winter here. Monster track workout with three of my team mates to celebrate the big 40. We did 6 x 800m with a goal time of 3:00. Then 6 x 400m with a goal time of 82 seconds. I managed to hit all of them. great work out.

Thanks for the Bday wishes.

I got in 3 miles last night with the dog. First run of the fall with a hat and gloves on. overall it felt fine. I can now sit down without bracing myself so that is improvement!! Running some more miles tonight. Might get myself to the gym for something else too. Not sure yet.

feel better peeps!

Happy birthday Tim!

((Bob and Bob mom)) Good news is they caught it early.

Update on my mom front: I can't remember if I posted this but her cancer is back and the dr upped it a stage and gave her about 8 months. Even though she didn't want to chemo again, she doing it (primarily for my dad) and it is going ok I guess but right now it is just about prolonging vs curing. She had to be admitted Monday night for low red blood count and got a few transfusions and some magnesium supplements. :(

Brandy - holy carp, I knew your mom's cancer was back, but I did not know the severity of the diagnosis. I am so sorry. Fucking cancer. I hope she is feeling a little better now.

Nice work on the keeping at it. I am still doing nada. Not even my ab work. Nuthin, baby. I am jealous of your description of your soreness level (can sit down without bracing yourself). B/c my race sucked, I did not go that hard and did not get to that level. I actually feel really great today. Looking back, I clearly started to get sacked with some ickiness/cold on Saturday night and it threw a wrench in things. I still have a head cold and nasty stomach issues. Frickin' figures. Bleh. But whatever, I had a great training season and it isn't quite over yet.

My GOTR "practice" race is Monday. We do it up BIG. And I am over the top excited getting ready for it.

*sigh* Cancer does suck, indeed. Too much of that shit going around.

Ran 8 miles (as per my schedule) after supper last night. I wore long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. I guess I could have gotten away with short sleeves, but whatever. It went well. But I had 4 truckloads of guys holler at me while I was running. Really? You have nothing better to do than drive around with your heads hanging out hollering at people out exercising? Get a life.

Mom and I are going to a fashion show tonight for the Cape Breastoners (they're the Cape Breton dragonboat team, breast cancer survivors). It should be a fun time!

Thanks for all the well-wishes for my mom, guys. But I think Brandy and her family need the thoughs and prayers more than we do. My mom should be fine, even if there's a bit of discomfort in the near-term from whatever the treatment will be. Brandy, my thoughts are wish you and your family...

KP, I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well. I wish you a speedy recovery.

As most of you probably know, I did my undergraduate schooling at Tufts University, up in Boston. A number of years ago, the university president -- who is an avid runner -- started a charity team at the school for the Boston Marathon. And it's really ballooned from there, into the largest collegiate marathon charity program in the country. Every year, I get an email inviting us alumni to join the team, and I've always ignored it because my eventual goal is to get into Boston the "real" way. (i.e. by qualifying). But with the qaulifying times getting lower and lower, and with me perhaps having plateaued in terms of speed, I guess I've come to the realization that the chairty route might be the only way I ever get into Boston. And there's probably no better way to do it than by joining up with my old school.

But they want runners to raise $5000. That seems like an awful lot! I'm not sure I have the dedication to nag enough people to raise $5000. Have any of you guys ever raised that much for a charity race?
