I was supposed to go 8 miles with 4 at LT, but it was still humid so I managed 7.5 at an easy pace. By the end I had nothing left and my HR wa up at LT level in spite of slowing the pace down to a crawl.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler. I can't take these 20C days!!!

9.5 mile run this morning in 1:19 and some change. I felt good most of the time. The humidity really starting getting to me in the last couple miles. The temp was about 70 and the humidity was hovering near 100%. I was completely drenched by the time I was done. It sprinkled a little off and on. I almost wish I would have just rained - it would have been cooling.

Edit - the folks I ran with told me it was a 10 mile route - I just figured it out and it's only 9.5. I knew something seemed fishy about my time, I didn't think I was that fast this morning. Damn.

It was pretty nasty here this morning. About 76 when I started and over 80 when I finished and of course, humid. Strangely, I felt great though. I guess the heat and humidity allowed me to loosen up quicker. I steadily picked up the pace run my fastest miles at the end.

10 miles - 1:16 I'll take it.

Ran 2 miles last night in 91F (32C) and 20:47 pace.

2 miles was all I felt like doing.

Today, maybe more! But supposed to be just as hot, and I presume humid although I don't know what the humidity level was yesterday.

Keep the humidity; send me some rain. I don't remember the last time it has rained; it has been months.

I had an...interesting run this morning. Just past 1.5 miles along the trail I heard the rustling of leaves and looked to my left. I expected a bunny, or a squirrel, or a deer, but it was neither. Nor was it a coyote. Instead, I saw the back end of a fluffy black and white skunk. He was just 10' from the trail and though I am sure he heard me, he kept on foraging for whatever it is he was foraging for. I watched him for a bit and marveled at his fluffy tail.

I continued on and not even 100 yards along the trail I heard another rustling and saw another skunk crossing the trail ahead of me. Two skunks...? I continued on, planning to turn around at mile 2, which I did. Skunk #2 was long gone, but skunk #1 was still digging for worms, insects or whoknowswhat. And he was just a few feet from the trail...that big, bushy tail and rear end poised and at the ready. Not aggressively so, just...at attention. Now, I could have turned around and followed the trail as a loop to the trail head, but it would have cut my whole run short by over a mile. I decided to wait until he wandered off from the trail and complete my run.

So I just watched him. Gosh, what a beautiful animal. The sort of fluffy animal you'd like to cuddle up with on a rainy Sunday. If they weren't so stinky, of course. Well, he finally scampered off (they run like a slinky--interesting) and I continued on. There's a "T" in the trail that leads to a short loop, or you can take to the other direction and run for mile upon mile upon mile upon mile. It is at this "T" where I saw yet another skunk, foraging. I made a right at the "T" and thought to myself, "I'm really making my way along the food chain" and then thought..."I hope I don't make it to the top of the food chain." That would mean a cougar encounter. I've already encountered black beetles the size of my thumbnail, lizards, zillions of birds, bunny rabbits, squirrels, deer, and coyotes. Nowhere to go but up.

All in all, it was a wonderful 4 mile trail run. And my Garmin died before I finished. I can't find the power cord; I plan to turn the whole house upside down in search of the darn thing.

I love to run.

Haha- sounds very pleasant and an enjoyable experience. I too have a wilderness story from today's run but not nearly as pleasant.

It all started great on the way to the trail, probably around 7:50 pace for the first 3 miles. Then the trail got really overgrown so I turned around and branched onto a different one I haven't been on before. I realized that this one was getting sort of bad and was looking for where it got back onto the road. Well it took about 20 more minutes of hurtling trees, ducking branches, and runnign through knee high grass before I finally did. Once I started runnign abck towards home, I looked at my shadow and saw that I was being chased by a swarm of horse and deer flies. There were at least 20 of them, the next 2 miles were sheer annoyance of running way faster than I should have been, and running my hands through my hair and flailing arms around every few strides to keep the flies at bay. Once I got back to the paved part of the road, only 1 fly was left and my shoe was untied. I fixed that and proceeded to take about a minute rest break from all that escaping. I took a look at my shoe and removed a tick trying to hide under my shoelace and proceeded to do a quick scan and removed another from my opposite leg. Well now, my body is extremely tired from all the great escape and I still have 2.5 miles to go so I slog home at a little over 8 minute pace. After a nice cold shower I examine myself in the mirror and notice a few swelling marks from fly bites and quite a few little scratches from the branches and other things. I am exhausted...

Oh ya, I have no clue how to measure that trail, but I ran for about 1:10:00 and doing mark to mark of what I knew I was at about 8 minute pace when I was dragging, so I just gave myself 8 pace which is almost 9 miles.

So Mikey where'd you go on vacation to?
