Morning all
3 miles for me, TV said 40, I had on long sleeves, windbreaker and gloves.
By 1 mile the gloves came off, by 2 the jacket was unzipped. The thought of 40 after so many unseasonable days was scary but it's not all that bad actually
Off to shower and work
Pretty day out.

Good morning all. I do ambulance duty (I'm a volunteer EMT) every Wednesday morning so no running or workouts for me today. After that, I have to put in my 7 hours of work so I don't get home till pretty late.

I just found out the neatest thing! My DH is planning a surprise 50th birthday party for me! Isn't that neat? My daughter spilled the beans accidently. She had called to say she woudn't be coming home for Christmas and is instead going to the family of her boyfriend in TX. I was disappointed but not angry, and she said to me "well we'll be at your party only 4 days later anyway". Oooops. hahahaha Actually I think that DH and the boyfriend are going to get engaged pretty soon, but since DS is engaged now, they'll probably wait a little bit so that the weddings don't overlap too much.

Susan
who plans to run tomorrow after work.

oops, meant to say Dear Daughter and the boyfriend are possibly going to get engaged soon! Dear Son (my oldest son) is already engaged but they haven't set a date.

EMT Volunteer Susan, Good for you!
Good to see you back Cragi
And G'morn to all

Foot still iffy. but spinning doesn't seem to hurt. So, day by day.
Scheduled my regular cholestrol screening tomorrow.
I'll get a second opinion on the foot too.

Tom, on that Javelin Catching Kit, did you happen to get a shield with yours?
Mine only came with gloves and a crowbar.

Maybe because it was the cheapest one.

I have a late meeting this afternoon so unless I get out the TM I'll probably just put off my run until tomorrow and get a good lunch time walk in instead. I did some wobble board exercised last night, so far so good.

I've never used a wobble board but I've flipped over the Bosu and do squats on it. Do you think that's comparable?

Also, do any of you have a favorite knee exercise? DH never did PT after his meniscus tear surgery and it's touchy now (2 years later). I think he needs to cross-train more. He only does spinning classes and hiking. I keep suggesting yoga and he gets this funny look on his face and just shakes his head. Since he won't cross train, if I can at least get him to do some knee exercises, that might help.

Kudos to Susan for being a volunteer EMT! Thanks for doing that.

I've completely forgot about my Javelin Catching Kit! JJJ, I think the shield is cut out of the box the kit comes in; I seem to remember a dotted line saying "Cut here"...

Yeah, just where is the bot-boy?

Choovie, peanut butter toast rocks! One of my favorite snacks to overcome hangriness.

REST day for me thank goodness! My legs protested very loudly this morning when I got out of bed. They are sore and completely void of sproink. I have to go pick-up a bunch of new flooring material this afternoon so we can begin putting in a new kitchen floor. Oh joy!

Oh, by the way, I tried side planks last night...it wasn't pretty. Here's a pic of it:

Although in my work life I play an information goddess, in real life I'm totally ignorant about team sports. I'm assuming the picture above is for football, but what team? Is this the Oregon Ducks or something like that?

Present, sirs! I'm on rest detail this morning, prior to Saturday's 5K race.

I think the Pro is on to something. I could get used to slacking.

(Okay, not really.)

I like peanut butter toast too. With apples.

Two of my favorite knee exercises are squats and lunges. It's important to do them right or they can hurt your knees instead of help. Keep your back straight, keep your knees in line with your feet as you flex and extend, and don't bend your knees past 90 degrees. And don't overdo it (too much weight or too many reps). I like to do these exercises with an exercise ball between my lower back and the wall. You can get a good workout with your own body weight or with some dumbbells.

Here's another exercise that's good for stabilizing your knees. Sit in a chair with your feet on the floor, lift one leg so your foot is about six inches off the floor, then extend your leg completely and hold that position for a few seconds. Then slowly bend your knee again and lower your leg. It's surprisingly hard! You can increase the challenge by doing more reps, increasing the length of each rep, or adding ankle weights. Sometimes I do these standing against the wall, holding my leg as high as I can. Killer!

Edit: Oh yeah, and do some exercises for your hamstrings to balance those killer quads. This is especially important for runners!

heehee, riley, you're funny! I shall have to pick up something for you at the Duck Store.

Not a good day (but glad for the chuckle), but oh well. I have to concentrate on my conference stuff for a few days so I'll be scarce.

hello all!(long time no see...virtually speaking)

trying to get my schedule more regimented so I can build up the base miles in an attempt to rechallenge that sport called 'running'.

5 Easy today-a bit chilly at 32 degrees...(thinking of you MC...)

I refuse to do any planks or lunges. My weak body is on the verge as it is. I'm weak to the core. Someday I'll be better about strengthing and stretching but there are only so many hours in the day.

I will be running a CC 5K race prior to the local Jr Olympics CC race in Litchfield CT. My son was asked to be on the team this year and will be running it for the first time. Top 25 get to go to regionals in NY. (I've confidently booked us a reservation in NY...)

Have a nice Wednesday!

I really wasn't trying to be funny, but I'm glad that I gave you a good laugh!
I grew up with my dad being a season's ticket holder to the NY Jets, and he also rooted for the Mets. My DH is only a Yankee's fan and doesn't really watch other sports. If I absolutely was forced to watch a team sport, I'd probably choose basketball but I'm just not into teams for the most part. The only exception was when my kiddies were little and played CYO basketball, little league baseball, and swim teams for their schools. thankfully they're grown & gone now so I can avoid all that stuff till I get more grandkids.

Susan, not a team sports fan

congrats on the EMT work! I did volunteer ambulance duty at age 17 prior to my career and it was very worthwhile. We seemed to have enough free time to include other activities in our little town. You need a TM at the stationhouse...

somewhere, someplace, sometime, somebody named sans scouchi challenged me to an ab-off. dang. i've seen her abs. i changed the subject.

now everytime somebody mentions a side plank i wince. the only memory left from the men's olympic trials tv show is the 20 millisecond shot of ryan hall doing a side-plank. even cycling the other day, i would clamp down my abs and say to myself "self, see how much more power you get on the pedals when your core is engaged?"

gaaaaaaaa!

fine, i give in. i accept your cursed ab-off challenge sans. i'll meet you at high noon on 1 march and pit my pack vs. yours. between now and then i'll be doing lots of core work, so beware!

(i'm a dead man)

oh yeah, 5miles this morning. then i saw my osteopath. hmmm, you've got some new stresses going on since i saw you last he said. i expect lots of snap crackle and pop to happen later today...
