Hi everybody. Today I ran a half marathon in the 9th annual Jaunt in the Joint, a race at the local prison. I was one of 7 people running the half marathon (4 freeworlders and 3 inmates). It was a blast. A prisoner named Steve was my timer; he counted my laps for me. You run the race around the rec yard, so it's 38 laps to complete the half. Normally there's a marathon as well, but they decided not to do it this year for some reason. There were about 25 people total running the 5k. Steve was great: he told me how long it took me to run each lap, offered me food and encouragement, and made me laugh about how he was going to help me run my best race ever.

I had a blast. So many people thanked us for coming out and running with them. Lots of guys have had a hard time training; the flood in May destroyed the rec yard for a long time, and all of these guys work or have other things programmed into their days, so in order to run, they have to cram it in between jobs or make the most out of the recreational time they get. Folks that are still going to be there in the spring said they'll come to the Striders and Stripers 5k in the spring. Others are looking forward to some road races when they get out.
