Good morning, all.

Been AWOL due to family and work drama. Going out for six this morning, and will try to do some fishbowl work a bit later. Shoulders are still sore from my tri pool effort 10 days ago.

Well... that track workout didn't happen. Before heading out the door I decided to drop some clean laundry in son1's room. Good thing. Discovered he had overslept. That's okay mom, it's only a 25min drive down to campus. Uh, 25+25=50, so there goes almost an hour for me. Driving back by the track I discovered the gym class just heading to the track. NOT doing that again. Hopefully will get some sort of run in later today. My right arm/shoulder is pretty painful today after yesterday's fall. Hip is fine.

Enjoy the run and swim later Chances.

Hope the run goes well when you're able to get it in 4BM.

Sorry I've been missing lately, still running- just busy with class work.

Tried the first speed workout I've done since Summer today. 5X 1 mile with a half mile jog between. Not used to it, and it took a while to get up to any kind of speed. Also a very hilly course as that's really my only option around here.splits: 6:51, 7:03, 6:49, 6:30, 6:20*. That last split looks solid, but I couldn't finish it off. The final mile was nearly completely uphill (I always pick the best courses) so I only made it a little under half way. Overall, not thrilled with wussing out, but not terrible.

Mom- Get that run in

MBH- Not bad seeing its been that long since you last did speedwork

I got in a pretty nice 7 this morning. Ever been completely bored with your normal course, but too lazy to drive out of the way to run somewhere else? well, thats where I am right now.

I don't think I have mentioned it on here yet, but I have decided to do a 50K in February next year. Theres a local guy that coaches for ultras, I shot him an email yesterday (if you open up the Oct issue of trailrunner mag, it shows him crossing a creek during the hardrock this year). I think I may need some help tackling that race.

Mornin' gang,

Great day for running again around here. October was kind of a crappy weather month -- started and ended cold & wet -- so hopefully November will be good.

Lunchtime speed planned for today -- contemplating doing some Yasso 800s.

Chances - way to keep it going with all the drama. Running is often my refuge from all that.

4bm - good luck getting something in. No doubt you will.

MB - 5 x mile repeats is pretty ambitious for a reintroduction to speedwork but you did pretty well getting through 4+ of them, I would say.

BBS - ultras are a slippery slope.

Good morning everyone. Not sure what I am going to do today. I may do a corework this morning. It is cold outside. I am glad I chose to take the week off from running. My legs need the rest anyway. Nice job on all the workouts this morning.

My best advice- practice eating during runs. That's been my biggest stumbling block on the two I've done. I always end up feeling upset in my stomach, not eating as a result and running out of juice. Practice forcing yourself to eat on runs even when you don't feel good. Also experiment around and figure what works best for you. Beyond that, ultras tend to be just about guts. Yeah getting some good mileage in is important, but you're probably never going to be really well prepared- especially if it's a tough course which they almost always are.

Good luck

Y'all know me too well. I was fretting about how I was going to sneak in a track workout after school/before dinner. What would I do if there was a team practicing. Etc, etc, etc.... Yah know what? Life is too short. BEAUTIFUL day, so I just went for a run. You know, when you lace up the shoes and run because, well, life is good. Still feeling yesterday, so legs not too fresh, but dog gone it, it felt GOOD to just run.

MBH - I love unstructuredness in training, and one way to just focus on running fastish and not worrying too much is doing time based intervals. You've got an idea from that workout what you are capable of right now, so maybe just having your next workout of this sort as a 4-5x6:30. You'll be getting in the effort while not freaking out (which I used to do a lot) if you're not exactly where you feel you should be. Also, you can do this on any running route instead of feeling the need to do it on some measured route. My $0.02 and preference.

Car troubles this morning, so 1.5+ hours spent figuring that situation out means no run for me today. Feeling sore yesterday, so it's probably for the best. Looking at a longish harder effort tomorrow.

Take care everyone, and Mom - I love those runs. Please get better very quickly too.

Yasso 800s today. I did the full 10 x 800 with 3:20 as the target, and it was tough. Started out at around 3:26 for the first two, then started getting down closer to 3:20 where I wanted to be, until the last 3 when I started to fade. Legs just got tired and I was having a hard time staying mentally focused...hung on for dear life and managed to keep them at around 3:26 again. So I guess I averaged around 3:23 on the day. 9.7 miles when all was said and done.

Nice work all. I got in 5 crappy miles at lunch. Oh well. Probably a light 3 tomorrow then nothing 'til the race. However; it seems that I'll be doing a lot of walking on Friday at the expo plus checking out the finish line in Central Park on Saturday.
