Well last night didn't go as good time-wise as I hoped for, but I did impress myself a bit more with my kick. Well long story short, sitting around in the hot sun for 3 hours had me pretty tired feeling by the time for the 3200m. My legs felt good and I started out nice and relaxed, but at about the mile I started getting a sidestitch yet somehow managed to keep it all together. I passed third place with about 2 to go I think and had a steady gap with second place. I could tell he was dying too and started kicking from 200m out and was gaining, with about 60 to go I caught him and he started kicking. At the line I leaned forward and nabbed 2nd place by maybe a few inches...whew. 2nd place I'm happy with, but not really the 11:01. I hope Conference isn't too much like this. Splits as follows: 1:23, 1:23, 1:22, 1:24, 1:24, 1:25, 1:23, 1:15. Plus 2 miles in warmup and cooldown.

Alex, definitely a nice kick! Makes my legs burn just thinking about it.

I ran 12 miles this morning. I wanted to take it nice and easy, but I got a late start and had to push things to finish on time. The bummer is that I'm not going to be all that fresh going into my Saturday race. Oh well!

May your runs be fun and your rest relaxing.

Great job, Alex!

I ran a paltry 2.25 miles yesterday. I was running alone and just could not make myself even go for the 3 miles. It was ever so much hotter than it has been and I'm definitely not acclimated to it. 81 is much warmer than mid 50s like we've been having lately.

I have another opportunity to run in warmer air tonight when it's supposed to get to about 85 or so. I do not look forward to this heat for running. I sometimes wish I were more of a morning runner.

Will be running a 5k this afternoon. Yesterday my OB gave me the ok to do the race and workout at whatever level I feel comfortable with. He also assured me my uterus won't fall out. Whew!

I was up until 2:30 at an execution vigil last night, so I'm pretty tired. I'll try to grab a nap today before the run.

Alex - 2nd place - Nice job - Mentally its nice to know that it was there and you decided to except the pain level to take it for yourself.

I cut short gain a little this am - I ended up with 12 miles with 4x4:30 @ I pace toward the end - I am 10-12 seconds behind last fall yet - If I lose 9-12 more pounds I should be back up to speed.

A very easy pace 5.25 mile run. Beatiful clear morning - mid 60s or so. My easy paced/recovery runs are finally back to where they should be - a little under 8 min miles.

6.3. Fairly rapid (for me), faster pace each mile, then cool down in the last mile. A little warm and humid, but pretty dang nice conditions.

Tough practice tonight but not killer. The heat was the worst, and the crowdedness. Hot and humid out, not hydrated enough. Easy warmup lap. Had a 2:30 timed run with around 810m or so. Then ladder of 100, 200, 400, 600, and back down. Was 15, 29, 1:13, 1:55, 1:13, 34 (stuck behind a kid), and 15. About a half-mile cooldown.

Today was extremely fun...for our reward day for National Honor Society for volunteer yard work last Friday today was on the town. Started off the day with about 10 minutes at school and we were off to the movies (Spiderman 3) which I had already seen...not the greatest movie but whatever. Then we headed to the bowling alley where my group played 3 games. Best of 3 and we won the first, lost the second and tied for the 3rd. First game by far my best with a spare and 5 strikes for a 139! Then my luck diminished and I got a 101 and a 99. Then we stopped at DQ on the way home. If only we got to do that more often...

Have a great night and keep cool.

Liam what did you think of Spidey? I didn't think it was much more than average...

Mikey, I think he was about 10:55 or so. Not much ahead.

3.5 miles on the treadmill, followed by 30 minutes of stationary cycle for an hour of cardio tonight. I am going to try running outside again soon.

Bad night for me tonight.

The plan was 12 miles, but I had to stop after 10 miles. I had dehydrated and bonked. It was 86 degrees when I started, and I wasn't ready for that.

I was doing the Merrimack River trail. I had to power walk some of the up-hills it was so bad. I knew I was in trouble when, during mile 1, I saw 162 on the HRM.

First run in the Mizuno Wave Ascend 2 trail shoes. What a difference trail shoes make. Something about using the right tool for the job??? Well these were great compared to the Wave Riders. I was actually able to descend the hills pretty well. They felt much grippier than the Wave Riders.

A nice thing today: A real pretty blonde gal was out on the trail tonight. She gave me a beautiful smile, and I caught a glimpse of a pair of beautiful deep blue eyes. That was the highlight of the day.

Daily Run Report

Date: 05/09/2007 Time: 15:53
Run Type: Just A Run
Distance: 10.0 miles
Total time: 01:42:43.9 Average Per Mile: 00:09:40.2
Course: OTHER COURSE
Max HR (for entire workout): 183
Average HR: 163
Shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 2 - 05/2007 Date Entered Service: 05/08/2007 Ending Mileage: 10.0
Weather: Sunny and hot.
Temperature: 86 Temperature Type: Ambient Air Time: Start
Temperature: 85 Temperature Type: Ambient Air Time: End
Dew Point: 47 Time: Start
Dew Point: 48 Time: End
Wind speed: 5 Max Gust: 11 Direction: S

MERRIMACK RIVER TRAIL

Week 2 Day 3 of the Pfitz/Douglas 18/70 program. Today was the first really bad day I have had on that program.

Why was it a bad day? I was supposed to do 12 miles, but it was a struggle to do 10 as I got dehydrated and bonked.

The heat was definitely a factor. It was 86 degrees when I went out.
