I'll start again today. I have to be in my work town at 6am on Wednesdays to do ambulance duty, and in my rush to get out of the house without tripping over the dogs, I forgot my gym bag. So I can't hit the gym on my way home from work. Bummer! I'll have to do some spinning or something like jumping rope at home later today instead. I may, for the future, pack a small bag with older running shoes and a pair of tights for the odd moment when I have a chance to workout somewhere.

PieJones, you asked where I live in NY. I live in Brewster, which is walkable to Danbury CT, and I work in Mount Kisco as the director of the public library. You can see our website at www.mountkiscolibrary.org.

I just found out that my gym is having a special yoga class tomorrow so I'll probably hit that right after I get the turkey in the oven.

Have a great day, everyone.

Morning Riley,

Looks like the last really warm run for a few days. 6 easy miles this morning before tomorrow's Turkey race. Suppose to get down to 55 tomorrow morning and then work on down to lows of 30's by Monday. That's cold for CC, TX.

have a good day all,
JJJ, go easy on that foot, now. You need to get to the starting line healthy.

Cool chart, geeky Mustang. ^5 on the improvement.

People don't really smile when they do planks, but that's what all the pictures show.

It has been suggested that we move the "running by feel" thread to the "Side Line" forum where it will get more exposure and feedback from more people. A link to the thread will remain here. Any complaints?

No running for me today, but I'm going to do some core work in my bid to take the Plank King crown from tomwhite this week.

2000 yds in the pool again. 4x100 at 1:45's. I am happy I am hitting 2000 as a std now. After Jan-1 it will go to 2500yds.

I decided my hip ITB was caused by raking leaves. My runs prior to that were easy runs and I felt fine. The day after two days of raking and my hip hurts. I (stupidly) did most all the raking right handed, and was putting my hips into it when piles or wet leaves demanded it. So....I have some recommendations ofr exercises and stretches, and I think that and some rest and I'll get better.

Maybe some smiling planks. mill, sure, move that thread, I don't read it anyway.

Tomwhite, you crack me up.
Riley, you are not that far from me actually.
Mill, that works for me. I think you gotta ask the threadstarter though.

It finally stopped raining here, but the ground is soaked and the wet leaves sticking all over aren't going to dry anytime soon. I wanted to bike but I think that may not be too safe so probably going to go trail running and hope it's not too muddy. It has some gravel on it so hopefully it will be alright.
Report back later.

Resting today before the drive to Ohio for T-day. Last night I did 2000 yards in the pool, with a set of 10x100yd in 1:38 on a 2:00 cycle.

I plan to wear last year's attractive beige hat, as I won't be running fast enough to win a new one this year. Black tights, red top, big ol' clunky trainers, general yukky weather running garb. 80% chance of rain mixed with snow, just the way we like it, eh?

Mustang Sally, I did a chart of my own this morning. The running data is too much for me to handle, but I did one of my bloodwork for the last several years. The first two tests are fasting labs but the recent one isn't so those numbers would likely be as good or better if it were also. I tried to upload it here but got this message:
Health.bmp:
Your file of 376.0 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 19.5 KB for this filetype.

My LDL has leveled off, my HDL has jumped way up and my triglycerides have dropped way down.

Now I'm off for a 2-miler @10:23, then shower and head off to Arkansas for the big in-law Thanksgiving (think My Big Fat Greek Wedding, just as loud but not as big). I'll be online there and see you guys later. Have a great day, all!

tomwhite, that story's worth repeating.
I'll rake bi-laterally(?) today. Thanks for the tip, Pro. Hope the hip feels better. Cross training with some last minute yard work before snow hits. I got the deck stained and porch painted the last couple weekends. Today the leaves and brush go into the chipper shredder, and the lawnmower runs for hopefully the last time. Cassadamius, that must be MI's forecast. We're supposed to be a balmy 46 and rain in the morning, not changing to snow until evening. I'll be wearing a red sleeveless shirt (perhaps under a jacket warming up), black running skirt and clunky trainers.

tomwhite, those were the boxer shorts with the penguins on them, or the hello kitty ones?
Riley, I keep a gymbag with a whole spare outfit in the car at all times.

I actually didn't run again yesterday (except for at lunch) and that now makes 3 days in a row. I should be good to go to run 5 easy tonight and race a turkey trot tomorrow.

I bought an elf hat this past weekend to wear at a Santa race in December. It has attached pointy ears.

Wow.. old man winter seems to be heading across Kicksterland! Sunny 70's here today, change coming tomorrow pm.
I decided to run my first Turkey Trot called "Gallop and Gorge". It'll be my first 8k race also. Since I have done zero speedwork in 3 weeks, after 4 easy miles with Tory, I dropped him off and did a fast half mile out and easy back to see what speed feels like. The fast half mile with a hill in the middle felt WONDERFUL, just to open it up and feel the power and speed. I have no idea how fast I can run 8K but it will be a PR. Just gotta get back in time to get the bird in the oven!

Have fun FF and AA at your TT's!

Hally, the shores of LI seem about a zillion miles away due to the horrible bridges. Otherwise, as the crow flies, you'd be pretty close. I love where I live; it's the most rural part of suburbia that you can find, and I can still get into NYC in less than 90 mins if I want. My dear daughter calls my town "bumblef**k" as she thinks it's like the armpit of NY, but I still insist that the armpit title belongs to places like Buffalo.

Speaking of DD, she and her live-in invited us for dinner on Friday near their NYC apt in the east 30s. I think they're going to spring a little announcement on us, but perhaps I'm being premature. Her live-in is training for the Austin TX marathon so the few times we ever get together, our conversations mostly revolve around running injuries, LOL. He seems like a nice guy, although I have no idea how he has time to run since he's a partner in a big law firm. He must work around 80-100 hours a week - when on earth could he run?

Well i am once again alive. the sickness has passed and I expect to get on the road again tomorrow. i didn't even feel good enough to post here.

Since it's a whine thread here is one from me. I have had kidney stones since I was 22 so that makes it 24 years or so. I form the little bastards continuosly and pass them spontaneously usually without too much pain. anyway I am embarked on the quest once again to see what can be done. So my doc refers me to a urlogist and i have the cat scan etc. i get to the doctor's monday for a 3:45 apponintment and get seem at 5:15. to hear Well I don't really have a good choice for you. You have a lot of stones some of them pretty big. (I know this of course already). We could watch then or break them up with lithotripsy. That would take several sessions because of the number of stones. So I ask , If they were your stones what would you do? He replies like I said I don't really have a good choice. Than I ask if we should look at the cause of formation. He says you know you might want to see a nephrologist ( kidney specialist). I start wondering why am I seeing this guy in the first place. Needless to say I emailed my primary relayed my lack of cofidence in this guy and asked for a nephrology referral.

Thanks for listening to me bitch.

I can't wait to get a run in tomorrow.

Not too bad. Waiting for my rotator cuff tear surgery to be scheduled (maybe a month) Nursing my sore hip flexor area, hoping it is just tendinitis or some other itis that will just clear up on its own.

sorry to hear of your ongoing kidney stone problems. I have a vial of them from my husband - he would get a few a year for several years. He finally stopped drinking milk, which he loves! He could drink a quart a day. Now he limits himself to about one swig a day. Ever since he did that, he has maybe only had one or two in the last 3-4 yrs and they were significantly smaller.

today was the first day I actually had to scrape the windows of my car. It's clear and getting below freezing at night now. brrrrrr!

Last night I worked on abs again, plus added a few stability ball exercises and worked on those one armed planks again. I could do one on the right side for 40 seconds, but the left side, I barely made it to 25 seconds, so changed that side to resting on my elbow and then did 40 seconds. My left arm is considerably weaker than my right, so I need to work on that. I also did another 200 crunches.

we'll probably close our office at 3 p.m. - we usually do on the day prior to Thanksgiving. so, I plan on going to the gym and getting in my planned 5 miles. Then it's home to make pies, cranberry relish and ice cream.

RoadHawk -
OUCH!!!!! I've had stones a few times; once when I was pg with my middle child (DD) and I almost lost the pregnancy. The drs told me they have no idea why I get them since there's no pattern. I've passed them each time, but they are large and hurt like hell. Knock on wood, I haven't had any for about the past 4-5 years. My aunt had lithotripsy and said it was very painful and she was all black and blue, but it did work for her.

The dr did tell me NOT to take vitamins with extra calcium, which is kind of a catch-22 since I have high risk for osteoporosis, being a "thin" white woman of Irish/English descent with early menopause.
