Morning, all. I'm totally confused about days of the week during the summer. Last Friday, I thought it was Monday because it was the first day back in the office after my trip home.

I woke up this morning to discover that I had left a candle burning all night. Thankfully it was at the bottom of a very large jar and there was no fire risk, but still.

More thunderstorms today but the tornado threat has moved east. I'm not the biggest fan of severe weather.

Have a good day, everyone!

Pretty much a not fun day today, since I'll be heading to a funeral in a bit. My coworker lost her only son in a forklift accident last week.

I'm sure there will be an upswing to the day, but it's not visible yet!

Fixed it for you. :)

So I took my car into my service station this morning for an estimate. They said I need a new fender, and then they'd paint the bumper and the car door for $1100-$1200!!!!!!!!!!! UGH UGH UGH. One of my friends had recommended another place to me, so on a whim, on my way to work, I pulled in. They said the same repairs (good) but said I could skip having the door painted (it's just for color matching, there are no scratches on the door), and they quoted me $600-$800. So, clearly, I am going with them! Plus, they are just at the bottom of my street, and it'll be MUCH more convenient. Sigh. It just SUCKS having to fork out this money for my own stupid mistake.

Stupid birds woke me up at 4:30 this morning and I've been awake ever since. I read for a while, then cooked (see below), then got ready early. *Yawn*

In other news...today's going to be interesting. I'm getting my hair cut at a new place tonight, then I'm going to pop into the hat shop for a private party (they want me to meet one of the milliners they use), and then! DINNER PARTY AT FV'S WITH HIS FRIENDS.

Should I feel like this is sort of big? Because it feels sort of big to me. Moreover, what in hell do I wear?? I've got on a neat, sleeveless white dress, which isn't unflattering. And I won't have a lot of time with everything I'm doing right after work, so would this be ok? I have on flats. I don't want to be too dressed up, but I'm also more comfortable in a dress and I can say I came right from work (it'll be mostly true...I just have to run home and get the couscous salad I made this morning.) I'm askeered!

morning- been a bit out of the loop but wanted to pop in and say hi and let Moonie know I'm sending recovery thoughts. Moe- is this the older gentleman you met online? Kath-loved the salt and pepper shaker pics you posted!

DH is away again...this week in Asia. Yesterday he woke up in one country, went to another for the day, and flew to another to go to bed. I'm sure he's exhausted. We are going to Napa this weekend for my 40th b-day trip (7 months late...since I was having a baby 2 days after my 40th) so I'm excited to get away.

Grayson starts occupational therapy today. Because of his surgery he couldn't do any "tummy time" until he was 4 months old so he's behind with his strength...no where close to sitting up, can only roll one way etc. Hopefully this will help b/c he gets frustrated.

I'll try to catch up more when I can. Not enough time in the day being back at work. Boo.

G'morning all.

Well, this bites...the icepack that should be on my surgery area is instead on my right elbow/upper forearm area. I fell down last night going to the bathroom and ended up crashing that area pretty hard against a wall. Took some vitamin-I, which actually made the pain of the surgery area go away temporarily, but not the elbow, which made for a sucky sleep. Also the elbow area wasn't swollen initially, but now there is some there (and thus, the ice)

The elbow seems a little stiff, so I am HOPING the area is simply bruised and there's not a dislocation or something worse here - it would suck to have to visit the hospital again so quickly after surgery. I'm just going to keep icing and hoping

Maureen - I'd say just dress like you've been dressing unless you find out otherwise that you need something fancier.

KJ - good seeing you! And good luck to Grayson on the therapy today.

Hope you midwesterners stay safe weather-wise, and good days to you all.

((((Moonie)))) What caused the fall? Were you dizzy or anything? Take care of you.

Great to see you, KJ! Best wishes for Grayson on his OT.

I have a student who is making me want to tear my hair out. It would be so easy to do what she wants (give her an incomplete when she really failed the course), but the more she irritates me, the more determined I am to stick to my guns. Bah!

Maureen: I'd ask the body shop if there is anyway they can "massage" the current fender and use it.

Prae: I come from a long line of hard-asses. If she didn't do enough work to pass the class she failed. She earned the failing grade so fuck her, she gets the "F"

Prae- the syllabus is a contract. You laid out from the beginning what your expectations were. If she has legitimate and documented reasons for turning work in late or needing extra time, fine, an Incomplete makes sense. Otherwise, go with KP's advice. Otherwise it is not fair to the students who did the work on time.

Jeez, I'm out of the loop now. What happened to your car, Maureen? And Moonie, what sugery did you have? Nice to see you, KJ! Good luck with Grayson's therapy!

I'm sick. Sick, sick, sick. I knew this was going to happen because the relay is this weekend. I was feeling so prepared and now this. I haven't run in days. I don't even feel like walking, let alone running. Ugh. I really hope a miracle happens in the next couple of days to get me feeling better. In the meantime, I'm just wallowing in my gunky head.

I e-mailed the dean of students with the information about the student and he (who apparently caves to students all the time) said I had a very defensible case. So I e-mailed the student and basically told her (for the 500th time) that she gets an "F" and to stop contacting me. We'll see how that works.

I want to eat lunch, but I have to wait for a student to show up. I think I'll make her go to lunch with me.

I agree.

I am busy grading finals from my Criminal Procedure class, as well as trying to get up to speed at the new gig. The finals -- some are BRILLIANT and some are just. so. bad. It makes me so sad and frustrated and . . . just plain pi$$ed!

At first, I struggled with being fair on each test, and trying to give the benefit of the doubt when they kinda discussed some issues.... F that. I agree with Bard -- it takes away from those that earned the higher grade.

Crim Pro is not easy, but it also isn't rocket science. Some of the rules they are screwing up are rules and laws we have been talking about since day 1. I'm just grading now. they either got it or didn't.

Give them the grade they earned.

I pulled out of a space in the garage at work and didn't realize the column at the end of the space was so close to the front fender. Creamed the fender, scratched up the bumper. Sigh.

Thanks, guys. Just trying to un-gunk my head and chest in hopes that I'll be able to do the relay some justice on saturday.

Maureen, that bites! I did something similar once. Only I got the car stuck against the column. It ended up being one of those "damned if you go forward, damned if you go backwards" deals. I never did get that dent and scratch repaired but it was only a college car. I really didn't have the $ to fix it properly.

Hello all!

Good to see you KJ!!

Moe, I did something similar 2 winters ago. I was in the grocery store parking lot driving the Durango, and instead of backing out of my spot (it was snowing and dark and slippery and I was tired), I decided to pull through and around to the right to leave the lot. I hit something on the passenger side of the truck - it was a huge cement base of a parking lot sign - I could see the skinny metal signpost, but not the ginormous base. The truck kind of bounced off the base and I drove on home. I didn't realize how MUCH damage I had done until we could see it in the daylight. I damaged BOTH passenger side doors and the front quarter panel. It was crazy - and over 3k to repair!

Hugs for our sick or ailing 30s and anyone else who needs or wants 'em! (((((((((((((((((((((((((30s)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
