So my fitness yesterday was a solid brick: swim 1200yd and 60 min intervals on the bike. Felt pretty good, but today my legs are a little tired.

Today is strength.

Morning Gang -

Nice late night run, Maria! Aren't you afraid running in the dark at night in NYC?

6 miles done this morning. Was supposed to be 10, but ran out of time so will be flip flopping the schedule around this week.

It's not. I gave up tracking it on myplate because it drove me insane to input every little thing I ate. I don't have the time or patience for that! But, I've been just being more aware of what I eat and trying to see if I have issues during runs because of it. If I had to put money on the problem, I'd bet on dairy. It seems like when I have ice cream or milk (in cereal) within 12 hours of a run, I have issues. I had sort of figured this out the past 18 months or so and have eliminated dairy 24-36 hours before marathons. That seems to help.

The morning started out great. Then DS woke up on the wrong side of the bed and the whole morning went to sh*t. Parenting is so hard. Grrrrr.

This is my 3rd day off running. I guess I'm taking a little break before the relay, although I didn't plan on it.

Tonight I'm doing the Ride of Silence with the girls in the Chariot. So at least that'll be some exercise.

Sorry to hear that Cindi. DS#2 woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning too and gave it to us good for 20 minutes. Fortunately he turned it around though.

My fitness is not happening. I did the mud run with DS#2 on Sunday and last night I did our practice 5K. We ran the whole time, which was good. I am crazy swamped at work, so my early mornings have been to work, not run. I am okay with it though. I know I will lose fitness, but I need some R&R.

DS#1's fitness is CrAzY though. He ran our practice race in 21:50. Holy cow. Granted, the race is 3 miles even rather than 3.1, but still!! That would have put him under a 23 minute 5K. That is almost 3 minutes faster than his race in Eugene a couple weeks ago. He is supah proud too, which is fun. I hope he continues to enjoy it.

Hello, gals. I hope everybody has a good day today.

I did an easy run last night. I'll try something longer tonight. Might be outside, might be on the TM, depending on how I feel about running in the rain later.

I plan doing two 5ks this weekend. I signed up for one of them. The other has passed the time at which I could pre-register. For the one race, I also signed DD up for the kids' run. This'll be her first race. I'm really looking forward to it...

mmmmmmm yoga. Ann, you and I are so on the same page!! Even with the mile walk to work and back! I got up early enough this a.m., it was GORGEOUS ot there, I walked the dog instead of running. Used to be I'd get out and walk the dog as a little warm up and then run. But even with the stellar weather today I didn't have it in me to go. I suck. If they sold Mojo at the Running Room I would totally stock up.

I hope to get out for a run tonight. I KNOW it would do me good. Someone....anyone....text me and give me a virtual kick me in the pants around 5:00 pm. I'd like to get home, throw dinner in the oven and run 3-4 miles while it cooks. Then shower up and head out to visit DS.

morning everyone

I had a fantastic run last night! 3 x 2 mile repeats with the first mile at GRP and the second mile at harder effort (15 seconds faster or so). I was faster than I thought I would be. Check it out! i got done and coach told me to go sign up for the fall marathon right away. *gulp*

Ran 4 miles this morning and have Hyland Hills on tap for after work. Hoping for 6-9 miles.

Dropped another 1.4 since last week too! I actually have a wee six pack starting to show :) My goal is to be able to run in just the sports bra (top wise) for the relay in August w/o shame

Cindi - I bet your bet is correct. Sounds like a dairy issue for sure.

Greetings, all.

I gave the TM a try this morning, and the ankle held up okay. The achilles area is tight, but that's not unexpected. Whew. I'll probably try 4-5 tomorrow, and if it goes well, I'll go ahead to the 10k event on Saturday as planned. I still have bi/tri/core/thigh/abs/butt stuff on tap for today.

Bob - Yes, we must have jillian-cam photos. :)

As I understand it, Dairy and Gluten are the biggest culprits when it comes to GI issues. Cindi, have you thought about limiting dairy even more than just before a race? I have to say I felt really awesome when I was following that Eat to Live plan for about 6 weeks I think, and it's pretty much a vegan diet, nothing processed, even limited grains. Plus I lost about 6 pounds, so I had that going for me, which was nice.

5.1 for me this morning...a bit of a late start (taking advantage of no set time to be at work) but got 'em done. Last night started week 2 of the leg circuits (20 squats, 20 lunges, 20 step ups, 10 squat jumps) this week it's 4 circuits with 45 seconds between exercises and 2 minutes between circuits.

Nice workout Brandy!!!! And nice work continuing to melt away!

I'm not afraid as I'll run in the streets for the 3 blocks that I need to get to the West Side path. Jason was much more afraid for me so I had to keep it short and fast. There is always someone on the West Side path ...runners, bicyclists and there's 6 lanes of traffic immediately adjacent to it so if all else fails and something happens, I'd just head out into the cars. I keep myself ultra-aware; it's soooo worth it too ...temps were perfect, just after a short rain and a light breeze greeted me, pace felt crazy easy at just under 8/min miles too.

Tonya - nice brick work!!

Just 1 sleep left until we head out for RTB, the spring edition. It's been a messy one to plan but I'm looking forward to getting up to the start in Massachusetts and enjoying the race!

Thanks -- I don't really know. I ran 8 miles yesterday and it didn't bother me. However, there's a weakness behind it and a bruised feeling on the outside of it that I notice with stupid little things, which makes me think there's something lingering from the fall.

When I'm doing planks, and I'm bringing my knee up to my elbow to work my abs, and then put my knee down to rest between planks, that might hurt my knee. Basically when I get on my knees for anything (insert inappropriate ideas here if you must ), I have to be careful of how I lean on that knee. If I sit for a bit with my leg in the same position, and then try to get up and walk, I'll notice an ache or something cranky in the area on the backside of the knee. When I was trying to do side angle pose or triangle pose last week (and at home the last few days), I was definitely uncomfortable. It's weird. I can run and it's not hurting, but with certain actions it does.

Have fun this weekend, btw! I'm sorry it didn't work out for me to join you this time. :(

Lora - you've been doing yoga regularly, lately, correct? Do you do the poses where one knee is down and your twisting your upper body? Or any low lunges with a knee down? Those are big culprits for anyone with a possible sensitive knee, to trigger something more. If you do these poses, try padding up under the knee w/a blanket or folding over your mat or try a variation (if your instructor can offer one, all the better) - additionally, a small instruction I've received before in similar poses is to get more on the upper part of your knee/lower quad so you're never really on your knee bone or cap, it feels weird but it's much better for the joint.

Thanks, Maria -- yep, I pad under my knees. I've been doing that since before my fall, actually, 'cause apparently I have prissy knees

The bruised part is exactly where I landed in my fall, so no surprise about that. It's more the ache/weakness I occasionally feel behind the knee that's puzzling to me. As of now, I'm guessing when I fell, I may have tweaked something back there that's not too serious, but just enough to be cranky now and again -- still. So those poses that stretch that area and require support from that area are the tricky ones for me these days.

And as I say this, I'm getting ready to head out for a few miles on the roads.

I was late and had to pick up the kiddo, so I didn't have much time for a run. I was also feeling tired, so I wasn't too upset to keep it to half an hour. With no more difficult runs before the weekend, hopefully I'll feel ready for the two 5ks on Saturday and Sunday...

I thought this was cool: I got a little package in the mail today. It was a CD from the Race Director of the ultra I did last month. It contained photos they took: 1046 of them! Yeah, it was a little annoying that you couldn't search for yourself. But heck, it was a miserable day and many people had jacketed covering their bib numbers anyway. So I sifted thru all the pics, and found about 10 that I was in. And I look terrible in all of them! Many of the other runners could manage at least to smile in front of the camera. But I look like I'm having a miserable time in every picture! Hrmph.

Evening all! Met up with Tavia for 6.8 miles on a mix of the bridle path and big loop in CP tonight, finished with 4 x 1 min strides... good stuffs! The light on/off rain and a more empty than usual park were nice touches to a lovely evening.

And this would be a big part of how we ended up with a German Shepherd. It never bothered me to run in the dark, but once we bought our house - which is a mile inside the city limit - Dh thought I needed a big scary dog to run with me.

Chiro told me to take a couple/few days off. Freaky twisted, he says, and would like me to give it a break. So..... I'm wondering if 20 minutes with Rodney and a walk with the beastie would be an acceptable reduction.

Gaaaaa. I might rethink even that, because at the moment my entire spine/pelvis is not happy.
