Morning Katholeenie and all to follow!

Yoga tonight, and I'm soooo looking forward to it. I need a good twisty workout, methinks. Other than that, and my requisite 2+ miles of walking to/from my car at work, I've got nothing.

Greetings, all!

I was a good girl and got my 5M in last night. Rawr. Today will be another 5, with butt/core/ab stuff, too. Bi/Tri/thigh stuff is already done.

Awwwww.. lublub JackJack first thing in the morning.

#6 ·

Yeah, a Jack pic early in the morning is always a good thing!

I took two days completely off with no fitness whatsoever. I feel like a fat schlub, but I feel well-rested. So I should be ready to grab some miles tonight.

As some of you noted, this thread has been rather slow lately. I think someone suggested last night that we each talk about what we've got on the schedule coming up. Well, here's what I got...

Sat Jul 16: Teterboro NJ Airport 5k

Wed Jul 20: Westfield NJ Pizza 5k

Mon Sep 5: New Haven CT 20k

Sat Sep 17: Top Of Utah Marathon, Logan UT

This'll be my 6th straight year at the airport race and my 8th straight year in New Haven, so those are basically a given for me. I've done the pizza race 3 times before, so that's also becoming a habit. And Utah of course is just my next stop on my 50 state quest.

So what cool stuff do you guys have on your upcoming schedules?

Good morning. I had dog duty this morning so GoV could get a workout in before a marathon day at work (probably a 12-14 hour day for him), so I still need to squeeze in my swim at some point later today. And teach a class at the Y. And visit my dad (and clean his apartment, change his sheets, put away his clean laundry that I'm bringing to him, and gather his dirty stuff to take home to wash). And start to get ready for the cookout my brother just decided GoV and I should have on Saturday. Whew! Should have taken a personal day, huh?

No sleep for me in days. I go to the sleep clinic on July 11 for my initial consultation. At least that's finally getting closer. I made the appointment in early May.

Had a great brick last night -- 24.1 miles with the aggressive bike team again (nothing was thrown at me last night, not did I crash or otherwise hurt myself in any way!) followed by 3.2 miles that were uphill the first half and downhill on the way back. I felt great out there, especially in the run. I definitely could have gone another 3 miles, which makes me feel slightly more confident for my upcoming big race on July 24.

Which leads me to:

July 4 - Delaware Running Club Duathlon (sprint distance)

July 24 - New Jersey State Triathlon (Olympic distance)

I need to figure out something else in August or September or I'll gain back all the weight I've lost during my Olympic training! There might be a half marathon in my fall too, but Philly is already up to $100. Ummm, no.

sigh

so I am fighting a bit of a bug. Yesterday all day I felt like my heart was racing and a little lightheaded. Immediately during the warm up, I was in the red and was gasping for air and dizzy during drills. I made it through 4 of the 6 800s but it was brutal and I was a little off pace.

Tried to run this morning and same clamminess. Boo.

I'll try again after work.

race calendar for me:

Red White & Boom HM - 4/4/11

Rice Street Mile - 7/28/11

Urban Wildand HM - 8/6/11

Ragnar Relay - unk mileage - 8/19 & 8/20

Women run the ciites 10 miler - 9/25/11

Des Moines Full - 10/16/11

I will probably need a 5k or 2 in there as well. Maybe Victory over labor day

Cindi - I missed the coach details! I'll have to go back and check it out. Congrats!

I am running either a one mile race on the 4th of July, or will pace James for his first 10K. He has yet to decide. I am secretly hoping for the 1 mile. I am in no shape for a 10K and my James is pretty fast these days. Oy vey.

Race Schedule:

July 23: Tough Mudder

July 24: Capital Mile (this will be slow, if done at all due to TM)

August 29: Madison Mini Marathon (1/2)

October 9: Chicago

This time I am doing a bit of an abbreviated training schedule (12 weeks to Chicago with a couple weeks of base building first). But it will go up to 70 mpw. I am following Pfitz's 12/over 55-70 schedule. I bought the newer version of Advanced Marathoning, and while it is similar to the older schedules, there are some differences. We'll see how it shakes out. Speaking of coaches, I have tossed around the idea of hiring Pfitz for a personalized schedule. I have used his stuff for years and he doesn't seem to be any more pricey than anyone else. We'll see.

I slept in this morning! Almost 9 glorious hours of good sleep. Yay. DH and I are going to do a 5 mile recovery run tonight after work. Legs aren't too bad this morning, but I am definitely feeling last night's track workout. I have to say, it feels sweet to be back in serious training mode!

Brandy - have you done Des Moines before? I did it in 2007 and found it to be a great race. You can literally step out of your hotel and be 2 minutes from the start line. It is a nice course too.

I am toying around with going to Grand Rapids too. If I have a bad day at Chicago (or bad weather), it will be my plan B. If I have a great day in Chicago, I may just come up and cheer on my 30s peeps since it is only about a 5 hour drive.

Morning all! I got out for a swampy run this morning in the park, the temps weren't bad at all and I wasn't overtly sweating (face, arms, etc) but my torso was SOAKED. Gah. Met up with a friend and got 11 miles in ...should have included my hill repeats but the legs weren't there this morning. Will shoot to get those in later today or tomorrow.

DO IT!!!

I've been working on a base lately and have entered official Grand Rapids training. This is my sole goal race for the year, thus far. I will do whatever it takes to a). survive the summer and b). go into the fall strong & uninjured. So far I'm feeling pretty good, a little fatigued and of course, always sweating, but solidly building; should be back up over 60 MPW this week. Other races sprinkled throughout include:

Macklind Mile - 7/4 this is a local race in St. Louis (where I'll be for the 4th) and very close to my parent's house. Most of my sibs are running it too and Mom is signed up for the walk. Wheee!

New Haven 20K - 9/5

RTB Relay - 9/16-17

Grand Rapids Marathon - 10/16

NYC Marathon - 11/6

6 easy this morning for me that actually felt on the verge of feeling easy! That's what I get for running about 3 times in two weeks.

RIL - more the merrier for Grand Rapids! Although Casa de Parker is currently booked solid but can definitely point ya in the right direction for close hotels.

back later with goal stuff...still thinking about it.

Ooh.. just in case anyone was considering a new treadmill or elliptical purchase soon... Sears is offering 10% off with the code GETFIT10. They do offer at least one sole model (the F80, which I have), and what appear to be some other quality brands.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program...

Hi folks - well, yesterday was my first day of strength training since my surgery; concentrated on exercises related to my posterior chain (glutes, hams, adductors, plus some lats and traps/rhomboids), some planks, and foam rolling the tight spots. I have a gut feeling the soreness will start creeping in this afternoon.

I will get in some walking the hills of SF today, unless my right leg decides otherwise.

As far as upcoming stuff, I've got generic goals (building up to a marathon either late this year/early next year, and maybe an ultra late winter or early spring.) I'm just trying to be patient and not do anything stoopid (I saw the breakdown of the latest medical bill from the hospital - the expenses seem to even dwarf my appendectomy from a couple years ago, even though that was on an emergency room basis and this was an outpatient procedure. I'd rather not have to look at one of these kinds of bills again for long awhile.)
