Got in a whole whopping two (yes, two) on the mill last night. Just wasn't into it. Guess two is better than 0, though.

Dinner out tonight, so no running there either. Will resume on Thurs.

I actually got my HR up last night at dance rehearsal...yea!

Yes, 2 is better than 0. Nothing wrong with that...

I plan on doing 8-10 easy miles tonight. I've realized that this will be the 5th day in a row for me with a run. I had never done 4 in a row until a couple weeks ago. And now 5, with one of those being a race. Am I doing too much? My legs do feel a little tired, but not too bad. And I'll make sure to keep tonight's run nice and slow. Hopefully I'm not setting myself up to get injured... (Knock on wood)

Good runs to all today...

Hey all:

Great runs yesterday PC, TimR, and Duck.

Last night was a warmup, then a visit to my dirt track. 9 miles with 4x1/5 mile (goal 64) - 64,63,63,62. Im getting closer. Then 4 miles at tempo (goal 5:50) 5:54,5:59,5:59,5:56 then back the 4x15 at 62,63,62,62. Phew.

Today, easy. Good runs everybody.

I was supposed to cross train this morning and run 2 this afternoon. I am taking a day off from running today. I have had 3 bad runs in a row and maybe a days rest will help. So I will cross train tonight and maybe run again tomorrrow. Ab work this morning.

I think I have speedwork on my schedule tonight. The email from our coaches said 3x7min fartleks at goal HM pace. The problem is knowing what pace I'm actually running. I don't have a garmin nor will I be running anywhere with mile markers. So I won't worry if I'm exact, just do the 3x7 at a faster pace than my warmup, but not all-out as I would for a 5K pace.

Good Morning!

I'll be going a bit longer today, maybe around 15 or so. I need to adjust to this time change. Our house is still waking up a tad later, maybe it's time to break out an alarm for a couple of days and get set into a summer routine of up and run.

Pacer & PTom, speedy speedy, guys! Tom, your tempo pace blows my mind-that is fast.

Bob, good job on the running! I was really worried about this 7 days of week running with a bunch of double this go around. But, as long as I keep my recovery days slow enough, I've felt great. Our bodies are pretty amazing and let us stress them pretty hard. For me, it seems I get a really fatigued feeling in my legs, but then it goes away after a week or so and I feel stronger than before. But, I do most of my runs way slower than everyone else here. I'm really only going somewhat fast once a week (w/ an occasional extra race thrown in) and really long once a week--but those are nice and easy, quite enjoyable.

I am beginning to panic about Boston, though, so I need to do a lot of MP work in the next few weeks and hills, hills and hills. It probably won't be long, but a few miles here and there during a run. I've got no feel for the pace. Come to think of it, I don't have a defined pace. Daniel's has me at just over 7:15, McMillan has me 7:27...hum I thinking just under 7:30 but that still feels a bit challenging. Not at all like a tempo but a solid minute faster than I'm used to. Taper madness a whole 5 1/2 weeks out--this could be a nerve filled month!

Morning Gang -

Tom - excellent work getting closer to your goal pace! That seems crazy to me that you will be able to feel if your body is on pace like that.

Jen - so you are already tapering? Or its starting soon? You will do awesome at Boston with all the training/miles you have done.

Kris - glad the ankle feels good!

Maples - hope the day off of running helps!

Got 3 miles and striders in this a.m. It was so nice to have it be warm (33 degrees) at 5:00 a.m. Weights on my lunch hour.

MN Peeps/Peeps interested in TC 10 Mile in October - if are one of the first 600 people to register on line tonight (12:01 a.m. on the 13th) for the TC 1 mile (may 8th), you get a guaranteed entry into the TC 10 Mile. http://www.mtcmarathon.org/OneMile/index.cfm I know lots of people who did not get into the TC 10 lottery last year - so if you really want to get into the TC 10, set your alarm and register for the one mile tonight! I think I'm gonna try to get in the 10 mile again this year. I had thought about trying the marathon, but life stuff is going to prevent me training for a marathon this year.

Good runs to all!

Due for 8 today.

My training is the suck lately for obvious reasons. I'm seriously considering bailing out of the marathon at the end of the month. I've only gotten one long run in and that was only 17. I'll decid after this next week - if I'm able to get at least one or two more quality long runs in.

Part of me thinks I should just bail and keep a steady base until my class is over. That would give me three weeks to then prep. properly for Eugene.

Tom - you're ill.

RFTL: No, not tapering yet. Another 2.5 weeks of real training and then a 3 week taper (though, the first week of that seems pretty challenging). I'm just already going through all the "what could go wrong" scenarios...too much time to think about this race, weather/wind/hills, my God, it has many many hills.

This is the one thing I was worried about with Boston. It's a big race, expensive to travel to, a lot of hard training behind it and it all comes down to 3.5 hours of running. Yikes!

I still think you should make a play for the full at TC--I'm pretty sure we will be up there! I'm a believer that you just need to sign up for your first and get it over with; and a local marathon was certainly the way to go for me. It took off so much pressure. No travelling, so basically you get to keep your routine right through the race. Look at it this way, even with my crazy mileage, I'm really only running somewhere around 90 minutes a day except for the long run...most people spend double that just watching TV in the evening. Just my thought, you've been running so well lately and the 1/2 at Grandma's will have you in great shape!

I'm tired just reading that! Is the rest of the week pretty easy in prep for Sat's sub 16 effort? (read between the lines - I'm goading you on to get after it and go for the sub 16!)
Uh, PTom is fast...I'm far less so. Of course since he has that "Barely Legal" look about him that the ladies all love, I'm going to say the only reason he's fast is because of his youth!
Boston Panic - MP feels tough to me right now as well, but a few weeks of speed and a nice taper, plus race day energy and you'll be surprised at how easy it will feel (for the first 10-15 miles, anyway!) Boston is tricky - you have to go out at an easy effort (not necessarily a slower pace because the first 10k is downhill). If you do that and show patience, get up and over Heartbreak without killing yourself, you can really bomb it the last 5 miles. And passing people late at Boston is a huge rush...far, far better than being passed!
Can you switch to the half at National? If not, you could always run the full but go really slow the first 6-8 miles and then run the rest of the way at a normal long run pace.

Today's weather is supposed to be good so I'm looking forward to a relaxing lunch run at an easy pace.

RFTL My 2 cents...the marathon will always be there. It's understandable to be nervous, but try and decide if you've got the time and desire to train right for it. You don't want the first one to suck and if life is not conducive to marathon training, there's a good chance it will suck.

Hi folks-

I've been in dissertation hell of late and so not around much.

Geez Tom!

I've definitely got the TC 10 Miler in my sights for the fall, though I think MSP might be a bit far to go for 1 mile and 6 minutes of pain. I think I'll have to take my chances with the lottery.

I'm calling BS that you "run slower than most of us here" Jen.

Glad the ankle is OK, Kris.

Sounds like a re-group might be in order, LL. There will always be more marathons when the firefighting training is over.

Got 1500yds in the pool yesterday (what's the aquatic equivalent of "Death March"? My swimming is Teh Suck) and then 3.5M last night. My leg is a little sore today. I'm supposed to run 3M before my PT appointment today. We'll see how that goes.

Agreed - its even far for me to drive downtown (30 minutes) for a one mile run! I did it last year and with traffic and the crowds, barely made it to the start line in time. BUT - the way I read the website, it says the first 600 to register for the TC 1 mile, doesn't say you have to actually show up and run it!

I did 10.7 last night outside in shorts...it was nice. My shins are continuing to give me problems though and last night I lost a couple of hours of sleep due to the right one. I don't know if this is a shin splint or stress fracture.. any ideas? Pain isn't too bad during a run and it isn't all the time. 80% of the run I had no pain at all. The shin issues came in conjunction with some cramping/tightness issues on the calves. Hmmm... I am stressed out dudes. Because of the lack of sleep, I didn't get up and go to the core class at the gym and I will bag the run tonight. I will go to the gym tonight and get my strength training in at least.

Yikes. Get that shin looked at, Brandy.

Morning all. Showed up at the pool around 6:20 this morning only to find out the fuggin' thing was closed due to a missing lifeguard. WTF!!???!?!? Pissed I was. So no swim today, 8-10 mile run after work.

Dude! Totally.

LL - don't stress about it, there are a millon marathons out there.

Brandy - having not dealt w/a stress fracture, I'm just not sure. I'd focus on them calves and further up the legs. I find that all of my calf issues/tightness can be traced back to weak hamstrings or a tight ass (read aching butt). Do you have a foam roller? Really it's the best thing to roll out butt, thighs and calves. Also, can you get yourself to a deep tissue massage?
