Morning Brian,

I've got some new lunar glides; but it was raining this morning and I didn't want to soil them yet. :) Actually running in 3 different pairs of shoes now so will rotate the glides in when one pair is wore out.

10 moh in 65 degrees and on/off light showers this morning. Ran intentionally at slow pace and let the boys frolic on up ahead at a slightly faster pace. 1.5 mile intervals tomorrow.

' Morning Boyz, (and the hawt wimmin who follow),

30F, clear, no wind. Returned to the streets for a 10'er. After 2 mi w/u I put it into tempo mode, but the clock suggests otherwise. Several streets are still covered in loose slush and not-packed-enough snow. Felt like I was running in loose sand. Conditions for the middle 6 mi were decent (8:05 pace), but the rest was wicked hard. Good workout though.

I ran in my new compression tights (gift from DW). At least they look fast.

I'm glad to see you're running w/o issues, John. WTG.

Nice hearing from you, Ribs.

Listen to the TV commercials backwards tw - the writing was on the wall.

I was hoping for 5 miles around 8:30 to 9:0/mi and a somewhat sloppy, hardpacked, or somewhere inbetween trail. What I got instead was a basically clear trail, 1 mi wu at 9:20, 3 progression miles in 8:10 / 8:00 / 7:54 and a cool down mile at 9:30. Must be the shooooos.

Very gratifying for my first run since last Wednesday's long run, after which I promptly 1) bought these new Saconys and 2) slammed my previously broken and recently healed little toe into a door. I'll take it. I won't be meeting my mileage goals for the month or the year, but getting back out there for one run was outstanding.

Nice run bty! And thanks for the reminder about new shoes. I just checked the mileage on my trainers, and one pair of my Mizuno Wave Rider 13's is at 398 miles. Time to buy new ones - woohoo! And the Wave Riders 14's just came out this month. Running Warehouse will deliver them on Friday. I love new shoes.

I'm taking the rest of the year off from work. My goal is to watch most of all the bowl games in the next four days. I think that's 17 games. I hope my glutes can endure.

I'm with Brian and the new shoes today. My original intention was to do a short-ish trail run today....then my friend called to ask if I wanted to go skiiing.... but when DH got home from hockey yesterday, he'd fallen and his hip hurt much worse than before. Getting up during the night was excruciatingly painful, and my leftover Ultracet were barely making a dint in it, so I called off the ski trip and off we went emerg early in the morning to get it checked out. Poor guy...... he can't sit down without pain, so he stood for the 4 hours it took to get checked out. Xrays showed nothing broken, so we left hospital in the early afternoon with prescriptions for stronger drugs, orders to lay off hockey, and a plan to get to his GP next week to get his back checked out.

Ended up having time to get to the trail for a run after all. 6 miles in the new Mizunos... I like, but will need to do some adjusting of the insoles.

Well done Mariposai!

And hi to you Irun.

Our weather today was similar to KS' down south, about 61 and very humid. I did a slow 11.5 in my gray and orange Lunar Glides. I took the gray laces out of them and replaced them with neon orange ones, and wore orange shorts and orange sunglasses for a nice effect. Spareribs

Jeepers...where is everyone?

I'm back from our cruise and enjoying warmer weather here in Colorado than we had in Florida! Ran 5.5 this afternoon with my neighbor who wants to do her first half marathon in the next few months. Ran in shorts today! Tomorrow the storm comes in though, so I think shorts weather is over. It was great while it lasted!

mc - sorry you are still sick. What kind of bug did you have? I'm fighting a cold - but I'm winning this round. Our cruise ship had quite an outbreak of norovirus. Thank goodness it passed us by!!!

Heme - sorry about DH's back/hip. Maybe he could share some of his pain meds with tomwhite!!!!

Congrats mariposai! That's a nice round number. I keep missing that mark myself. My plan is to do my LR on Fri. That will get me to 1994 for the year. So close. 6 weeks in injured reserve this past summer did me in.

Heme - good of you to stand at the ready for your hubby. Waiting in the emergency room ranks up there with taking friends to the airport or helping them move.

That's cool, Mariposai! I just got back from my run, warm & windy. One mile warmup, then fartlek intervals. My instructions were: each pick up should last at least 45-60 seconds, no longer than 2 minutes. This means that the pace you speed up to should be manageable enough that you don't burn out before that, but hard enough that 2 minutes is all you really want. This does NOT mean to sprint (it's like she knows my tendencies now). You should be able to maintain the pace beyond the 2 minutes, but you should be happy to slow it down. This should be faster than your goal pace, probably around 7:35-7:50. Each pick up can be different lengths, so don't stress over that. Remember that fartleks are speed play--informal and should be fun. Get your time's worth out of these workouts, but make sure you enjoy yourself.

I did just that & my pace on the pick-ups was between 7:29 & 7:57. 3 miles of that with the recoveries about a minute, and then a mile cooldown. I ran on a variety of surfaces including some open fields, dirt, etc. on the warmup & cooldown.

3.1, lots of fun! Kept holding back, trying not to go too fast. 30:04. 55 F.

Fave songs on the MP3 player set on shuffle were Breakout, Foo Fighters; Free, Switchfoot; Pa' Bailar - Siempre Quiero Mas - Bajofondo.

Cool down to "As Long As He Needs Me", Shirley Bassey - tremendous!

Knee and hip are gonna gripe on Saturday, but everything feels so much better now, and I know it's not an actual meniscus tear. So will keep doing the exercises and will just go out and do my best! Temps will start in the 40's, high in the 60s. Should be great!

Get well soon, MC, before Mariposai comes down there!!!

I think you are on the mend Mc. Just a couple more days of resting is what you need. That's my new years prediction.

I had a good hill workout today. 2 mi w/u, followed by 6 x 1 min short hill repeats. dang it but a minute is a long ass time when you are doing those for the 5th and 6th times!, then a 1.7 mile c/d, for a total of 5 miles. 47:45. Hamstrings definitely tightening up on me tonight, so it's time to stretch and roll, baby, stretch and roll.

tomorrow is swimming with DS so that'll help too.

we went bowling tonight. that was fun.
