storming here today. curly hair today for sure. i have a stoopid arrangement of meetings today. 9 and then at 1 and last meeting is bound to be long so who knows what will transpire.
got in a long hike yesterday.
saw more cranes (not the cool running kind) than i can count (which apparently means i can't count past 7)... and heard their uh, noise for the first time. made pup and me jump. very cool stuff.
thread was way the hell too much for me to keep up with last night.
so......
lori hows your uncle?
moon did you swim in the fish water yet?
anybody seen KJ?
diane don't forget to wave...nobody cares, but is screws up your day.
this smiley while not directed at anyone, makes me exceedingly happy.

QOD: What was your first job?
i was a green house scrub for 3 years. potted plants, carried out 80 lb bags of peat, got hosed off by the turds that worked in the shrub lot, etc. etc. etc.

Morning everyone.

Wow there was some craziness going on here last night. I just couldn't hang. Had to shut down early.

Planning a 1 hour run tonight before dinner but if it pours I'll push it off until tomorrow and hit the elliptical instead.

Kids are off to camp and I have to do a little food shopping. Not much else planned for today.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning! It's raining here too. Guess I won't go swimming today (it's our first year owning a pool and we are thoroughly enjoying it.) I'll hit the gym later in the AM for an upper body workout and some cycling, just have to wait for the second munchkin to wake up.

These threads do get long! You all must stay up all night posting . Anyway, enjoy your day. I'll be entertaining the in-laws this afternoon.

QOD ... my first job was at a local amusement park (Dorney Park for the local yokels) serving up ice cream waffles. Awesome job when you're 15.

Lord, when I first skimmed down, I thought I was supposed to wave with just the 2 fingers...
I am actually not the dropper-offer, but the picker-upper today. Less pressure on the front end, but it does mean that I came into work stupid early (as in, 6:30) so that I have time to go to the gym before pickup.

Things got awfully racy here last night for a Tuesday night. There was even talk of a

OK, I'll stop with the smilies. I know they can actually be annoying to some.

QOD: Babysat a lot from when I was about 12. (Good God, who leaves their baby with a 12-year-old?!) My first official real job was when I was 15, and I worked in the bakery department of a grocery store. (Sage's in Harvard Square, for those from the area. Unfortunately, our Sage wasn't my boss...) Legal working age was 16, but I lied on my application, under pressure from my mother. Things were pretty loosey-goosey back in the dark ages, so I never had to prove that I was old enough to work.
Oh, and I met the guy who ditched me at the prom at this job. Good times, folks. Good times.

Morning.

QOD: I didn't start working until after high school and my first job was as a summer worker in an office. I spent the majority of my summer trying to not fall asleep.

Hey hey hey...

Got a mid-day run and some lower body weights planned today, hotter than I don't know what here so it will definitely be a TM run.
Bad thing about the company gym, I know exactly who does and doesn't shower after they work out.. and may I say ... EW. TAKE A SHOWER.. or at least don't sit next me at the next meeting we both attend.

QOD - I babysat a lot too - but first real job - was at a Hallmark store. What a mistake that was. I am not so much of the warm fuzzy type, and I think "precious moments" statues are well, not so precious.

Later kids.

Hey kiddies -

Super tired this AM. Stayed up late packing, then doing some homewoerk for professor McT. Half a day today, then out for a week and a half. I am relying on Dankinia for a full synopsis when I return. Crazy storms here thie AM too. Hopefully it will not impact my flight. A 5.5 hour flight with a 4 YO at dinner through nap time. I may need to drink.

Apparently Doc bruises like a 3 week old peach. Scratch is the god of recovery patience - channel some of his mojo.

QOD Delivered newspapers for a bit, then had a job as an errand boy at a local carpet place. I would go there after school, vacuum, clean windows, pick up dinner for the sales guys, etc.

My backyard camping last week:

Hey folks. Craptastic mood for several reasons:
(1) Work is driving me insane. My priorities are literally changing hour by hour, which in a lab is ridiculous! ANd seems now I am on "clean up", finishing up every project other people half assed. Next week I will be required to do some work at another facility. This place is about 20mins south so along commute. And I got a call asking what my ID badge # was because I will need it to enter before 6am and leave after 6pm. Um, WTF?! WIll I need to be there that early/late?

(b) The news on my uncle is not good. Basically they told us yesterday they would be suprised if he made it through the week. He is 82 and lived a fantastic life! Played by his own rules, travelled the world and was always more like a grandfather to me. I am sad and will miss him but it kills me to see how hard it is for my dad. In addition to being his brother, he is also his best friend. And his only family (other than my brother and I) in this country.

(III) Went for a PT consult. I have bursitis/tendonitis in my shoulder. Seems wimpy compared to Doc's injury but it still sucks! So PT for a bit, no swimming, pretty much trying to imobilize the shoulder till the acute inflamation subsides.

So to offset my mood I began my beer assignment last night. I am so happy to hear Kini did too, so I wasn't really drinking alone!

Ok, enough from me. Sorry for the blahs!!! Carry on!

Good morning.

I got blood drawn this morning to do a celiac disease screening. I have some of the symptoms of gluten intolerance, so we'll see what's going on with that. It seems type 1 diabetics are more likely to have celiac disease as it seems to be a related sort of autoimmune disorder.

I hope maybe to do a bike ride after work today. Weather is kinda iffy though.

Yes, last night's conversations were interesting to say the least...

I got in a 4 mile run last night at a 9:18 pace. That might suggest it was east, but it didn't really feel very east. It was sorta warm, and my route was kinda hilly. Maybe that explains it. Or maybe it just wasn't my night. Whatever. No big deal...

I'm off to Vegas in a few hours. Hopefully my plane can take off in this weather. I don't want to be stuck in Newark any longer than I have to be...

QOD: I used to mow lawns and shovel snow in my neighborhood when I was a kid. Then I had a paper route when I was 13. My first job-job was stocking shelves at a pharmacy when I was 16.

Have a great day, everyone!

Yawwwwwwn. Nice weights workout last night and 5 easy miles on the TM, made even more enjoyable by watching ESPN Classic. It's Dog Week and they were airing old Incredible Dog Challenges; it really brings a smile to my face to see them pups diving into pools, doing mad tricks with the frisbee and booking it through various obstacle courses. The best event was this 4-dog relay, I think I picked up some new training tips for myself 14 on tap for tonight, rain or shine.

Tim - have a fantastic time in Seattle and Alaska!!! My p's are headed to AK in just about a month and are seriously stoked.

((((Lori, Uncle Lori and Lori's Dad)))))

QOD Like others I was a professional babysitter early on with a full book of regular clientele. Beyond that I started working at Imo's Pizza as a phone/counter/sandwiches, salads & pasta chica just after turning 15. I made buckets of money for a teenager and shopped every week. Them were the days.

And GOOD LUCK to all of the Torchlight runners tonight: Brandy, Baggs, Crane, Jess, Korbels, Sage? (am I missing anyone?)

Funny how we all seem to cycle into funky moods at the same time. I came to post this morning to say I seem to have caught KP's summer cold, and that I'm feeling oogie in general. I've bit off way more than I can chew wrt the costumes and I'm really really nervous about it now. (One major issue, no pun intended, is that one of our actors is very large; very large. I'm going to really have to work hard to come up with something for her to wear and she's in a major role. Oof. I guess I'll be putting my bargain sleuthing and sewing skills to the test. Did I mention this is set in the early 60s?)

Adding to my general distress today was a bus ride into the freak zone this morning. I like taking the bus generally. It's a quick ride, I get on at the terminus, so I almost always get a seat, we drive through my 'hood so I sometimes see friends and neighbors. Normally no problem with the bus. Today, I get to the stop and the bus arrives promptly. Take my seat...and a hair flipper sits in front of me. Hair, hair, hair flipping in my face. disgust Then this little man gets on and says "no survivors, NO SURVIVORS". Well, that set a tone, no? He repeated that a intervals throughout the whole ride. I was very happy to get off the bus.

Staci!!! What a beauty! Both the baby and you! I wasn't able to see the pic till I got home yesterday.

Anyone know anyone who wants to buy Beastie Boys tix from me? I can't find a buyer. 8/5 Boston Opera House.

Gotta skidaddle.

morning everyone

So, the knee feels almost 100% now. Weird. I did however get stung by a bee or something. There is now a huge welt on my leg. I don't recall getting stung or bite. Weird. Just a weird week for me.

Jess - It is going to be 90 degrees and muggy and you want a camera there??

Mornin' all!!

Haven't been able to keep up enough to post. Been ridiculously busy at work and outside, in a good way at least doing a lot of running and lifting. Gotten in a pair of 10-milers the last two days, which weren't too bad. Last evening's run was in the pissin' down rain, but it was actually kinda refreshing. Though there was some chafing in a delicate area.

Not sure what happened to Doc's shoulder, but let me add my, "Man the f, up bro and quit your bitchin'!"

Welp, gotta get back to it. I'll try to check in later.

I found out this morning that, as a state employee, my salary is published online. Privacy issue, yes. More to the point, though, I've been able to look up what coworkers make, and I've been frothing at the mouth all morning.

No survivors! NO SURVIVORS!!! I like that.

Hello 30's friends!

It's been awhile (1 week) since I have posted, and I really don't have too much to say. I miss the thread, I can't keep up, It's been busy, and I have been working out, I did a mini brick workout last night, (I biked 6 miles and ran 1.) It felt pretty good, but I was sweatin like 10 men! Dew points were in the 75* range yesterday in these parts. I am going to keep on keeping on with my hip/knee issue. I think the rest really helped me, so I am not going to proceed with the ortho/mri plan. I am going to proceed with the Hawki plan, slow and low for now.

Beaker - Hugs to you and your family. Healing vibes are sent!

Good luck to the Torchlight folks tonight, it's going to feel like a lit torch!!

Doc- Healing vibes to you as well!

Scratch- Hope the screening test goes well for you!

QOD- I worked at an amusement park, (Adventureland) age 16 through 18. I started in the games department, yes, I guessed age and weight! But then moved on to bigger and better things, selling tickets at the front gate.
Later all!
I'm here- thanks for asking about me mandaroo! I was in Mexico last week- ate and drank way too much and my stomach has been off since- I haven't run since Sunday. I can't believe my tri is in 11 days- yikes...Lori- how was yours? I didn't have time to catch up on all of the posts. Hope everyone is doing well- I'll try to catch up and make some personal comments later on.
What happened with doc?
QOD: Also babysat, but my first real job was at a TCBY yogurt- was pretty fun actually. Back then minimum wage was something ridiculous like $3.75.
When I'm feeling a little better I'll write more about mexico including our- wait for it- private butler. Nice.
