Hi everyone,
I'm happy to say that I'm not sore from yesterday's first good run in a long time , although my left knee yelped for a second when I went down the flight of stairs in the morning to walk the dynamic duo.

Today is ambulance duty and then work until 8pm so I won't have time to do a run. During lunch I may scoot over to the gym and do a 40 min weights workout unless some crisis intervenes (always possible in the library biz). I have gotten up to 30 secs on my planks but can't manage very many of them. Still, even a little improvement is cause for celebration, right?

DH took down the wreath I had put out, saying that he doesn't want any decorations up until at least December 1st. This led to a very interesting conversation last night, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Have a great day, all.
Morning Susan - Does DH think Christmas season comes to early? I do. Guess Santa was in the malls this year before Thanksgiving. Glad you're feeling well from your yesterday's run.

Morning to the rest of you. Hope you have good runs and days.

Yup, and I agree, but I put it up as part of the maintain campaign challenge of the day. When my kids were little we used to decorate the house the weekend after Thanksgiving, but now I don't put up quite as many doodads. I used to have an old English bulldog named Nigel who was always terrified of the papier-mache reindeer. Then one day he ate the heads off the 3 of them! I still miss that boy; he was my heart dog. He died last year at the ripe old age of 13-1/2, which is ancient for a bulldog.

This morning the highway dept is coming to mount a huge wreath on the outside of my library. That should look really nice!

If anyone has a Costco membership and needs a Garmin 305 look here
http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15500

Alright Nigel for overcoming his fears!!

I did 30 mins elliptical this AM as I had an extra hour because I was getting a ride. Had to leave my old car home so I can pick up my new one at lunchtime

Last night did 45 min arc trainer and 1 hour weights. Taking off for over a week while at Mom's ( I did do pushups and planks) didn't seem to make me lose any strength.

Good Boy, Nigel.

Our decorations rule: First Sunday in Advent, or 1st December, whichever comes second. I had to suggest to DS last night that the rule logically extends to wearing Santa hats to karate. He actually agreed.

An easy swim today after I pick Storm up. I'm skipping yoga this AM so I can get to the phone when the vet calls. I don't think a ringing cell phone would go over well during a balance pose, do you?

Do I NEED a Costco membership? The website asks me to register. But I'm not sure if it's asking members to register or if anyone can.

I think that sometime in the registration process you are asked for your membership number.

..... guess what Mrs hup is getting for Christmas .... truth be told, buying this for her will probably be my Christmas gift because she really doesn't want to "waste" a gift on a Garmin

mc, at UPS we have a meeting every morning and on many days the sups warn us to watch for kids ... I always chime in and add runners (you can do stuff like that when you're as old as dirt )

hally - I forget, did you go with the CRV? We want a pic of you behind the wheel!

Illene - your new avatar is great!

5 miles for me today with the lovely Mrs hup. It was (relatively) cold here 34F (hey, this is California!) Wore a stupid looking hat.

I'm back to work after a week and a half off. In addition to getting back into the swing, I'll have to remove the facial hair that I've cultivated. No matter, the stuff gets grayer and grayer every time it grows out

Hope you all have a fantastic day
Last night I asked DW for a Garmin 205 from the Road Runner catalog. I think it runs $199 there with free shipping.

It's fun to step in from the cold to a nice warm thread.

{{TW & Pickles}} hang in there, day at a time.
Atta boy Nigel!!!
I like that new hippie chic avatar Ilene.

Today was a workout for me.
4M warm up
3M @ AHR 164 pace HM -30
1M cooldown
3M @ AHR 164 pace HM + 30
1M cooldown

The paces are somewhat guesses because
while Garmin is usually pretty acurate today it was giving away miles like,,, like guv'mint cheeze.
(i was going to say -like ripe ______ , but best to let sleeping fruit lie.)

More barefoot bonus --400m on grass --the experiment continues.
Hally, that's an awesome price on the Garmin. Alas, I don't need one and I bought one for DH in the spring.

Hup, you're a lifer with UPS huh? Congrats on such an accomplishment...I always seem to get the 7-year-itch when it comes to jobs. This must be your busy season.

Tomwhite, I hope your wife's surgery goes well. I know you're going to have a rough week with such a full house, but I'm frequently reminded that "nothing takes the place of persistence".

I ran a grueling 4 miles this morning. It shouldn't have been as hard as it felt, but I think the cold wind really got to me. It felt like I had bricks attached to my feet. At 3 miles I detoured back home and finished my last mile on the TM. That was better, but still not great. Oh, well.

Have a good day, everyone.

I forgot what I was going to write...too mesmerized by Ilene's new avatar...
And a long over due {{{{{{{{{{Ilene's hip}}}}}}}}}}

Oh yeah, Labduck family rule: Christmas decorations go up on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and come down on New Year's Day. The cats love Christmas trees!

Very nice workout JJJ. Barefoot again...

Rest day for me, as though I have anything to "rest" from. I just usually take Wednesdays off.

Story of my life, a day late and a dollar short. Oh well, I'd just spent the extra 40 bucks on something else anyway .

Since the kids are gone, and they've been gone for years now, unless we're having company, no Christmas decorations at all at our house. I could go on and on about the commerialization of Christmas but I won't, and being on my best behaviour, I won't even offer up a bah humbug.

Intervals at the HS track later today and an attempt to figure out my MHR, however now my hip is hurting (sympathy pains for Ilene obviously) so I'll see what happens. Will attempt the 2nd ever yoga class after the run, also if possible.

thinking of you and pickles, tomwhite. Hoping all goes well

hup- what?? 30 years?? did you start working for UPS at age 8 ??

That's a great deal on the garmin 305.........opie, I was checking just days ago, and there were several places including amazon and thenerds that had the 205 for under 150.

One local radio station starts playing xmas music 24/7 right after Halloween. It's just too much. I refuse to put up decorations of any sort until December arrives. The idea of spending more than 1/12th of my life with that stuff up just bothers me somehow.

congrats on the new ride hally......you went with the hoopty, right?

I bet tomwhite schedules an emergency meeting of the "rails to trails project" board this week..........the perfect excuse to get out of the house and have a few beers.......I might need to start such a project locally

8 miles on tap this evening, a few of which will undoubtedly be in the dark.......the folks with early xmas lighting are good for something after all
