On Thursday 6 February 1958, an airplane carrying the legendary Busby Babes back from Belgrade crashed in a blizzard after re-fuelling at Munich airport.
Eight Manchester United players were killed along with eight newspaper journalists and seven staff and crew out of a total of 44 passengers. The untimely death of such talented young sportsmen - the cream of the crop of British football in the 1950s - seemed to remind everyone of their own mortality.

They had just returned from playing Red Star Belgrade in the European Cup and were favorites to win the whole competition

The plane had 2 aborted attempts to take off before the final and fatal third .

Me today Hell workout trainer session

15 mins warm up - 3 mins at maximum then 2 mins recovery times 8 followed by 15 mins cool down

And it's SUMMER for you ella! Get well and stay away from the Vegamite!

Neil-I had Hell Tuesday yesterday...good to get it over with. On my brick I got attacked yet again by the pack of wild chihuahuas. I confronted the owner AGAIN and she of course had nothing to say. I contacted the HOA to see if there had been any other complaints.

We have leash laws. I keep my dogs appropriately contained.

Brit baller Busby Babes was bullocksed flying from Belgrade in a blizzard? Bummer.

Up late getting Pinewood Derby weigh-in done and registration list posted. Lunch plans likely preclude workout then so... Looks like a rest day for me.

Fly on my sweet tri-peeps!

1 hr trainer ride today at the warehouse. We synced the workout to the music. Up tempo song, high cadence. Slow song, big gear work.

Followed by a 30 min brick run. Couldn't get my HR to stay reasonable at a pathetically easy pace. Lotta work to do in that regard, but I'm not focused on it until after Boston.

Tonight - masters swim

Is it Friday yet?

If you do 3500 meters....
that's at least 3800 yds. (and change).

If you wanted to stick to the yardage.....you'd only need to do about 3200 meters.

Big storms here in 'Bama...headed east. They already spawned tornadoes in West Alabama and Tennessee.....Haven't heard the news since I left home for work, though, so don't know what they're doing.

I was waiting for the shuttle bus from the parking garage (I'm made of sugar and will melt in the rain), when FLASH/BANG!!! Big lightning and LOUD crack.

I'm thinkin' something got hit close to us.

I did almost 5 miles this morning, but really did it because I miscalculated which route to take for my minutes. So, I ended up running longer by about 15 min than was on the plan. Oops. I will say, though, that I'm glad I got it in BEFORE the rain hit here...... I got wind, but that was ok.

This really is cool. One look through the daily workouts and seeing such quality Trainer session with big gear, low cadence, intervals, max efforts, and an assortment of other base build work shows just how these boards have sculpted our workouts with a shared vision. That's awesome!

Dougie Fresh: Very cool to here you want to do more with the body sculting. I mean that. It's obvious you're enjoying it and seeing gains and immensely challenged. And it motivates me to perhaps look into something like that for myself. Doubt it will happen because mainly I'm fairly solid with my workouts with little time extra, and I'm doing basic core things in the gym, but still... the enthusiasm coming across in your posts is infectuous. Keep it up, man!

Me...

4+ mile rather ho-hum stomp through a very chilly rain early this morning. Energy level way off. Started waking up in the last mile. Good enough for what follows...

40 lap swim with first proper speedwork since this time last year:
o WU - 10 laps
o 10 x 100 yards
Although this was by no means a break through workout, I am rather excited by my splits on the 100's. Started at :49 for the first lap, :52 the second; migrated faster to :48, :51; :48, :50; then on to :47, :50 for a few, then finally :46, :50. And I *felt* the water with my pull as I got faster. Goal will be to hit :45 seconds on first and get the second under :50, for most of the laps. Something to strive for. But I still have to go easy with plenty of rest between session, as my upper arm is still tender from my fall on ice a few weeks ago.

Tough history day... very tough.

Fishbowl. 50min steady swim. Pretty consistant 24 strokes/lap. At least I'm down from 27.

Then out for a run. Came INCHES from being hit by a car. I'm in the crosswalk. I have a green light. Some bitch in a SUV makes a right turn into me. I was wearing my neon yellow jacket, so it's not like she couldn't see me! Huge adrenaline dump, and never did get the run back under control. 4.67m (think that's long), 38:59, 8:21pace

15 miles going no where on the stationary bike at the gym. The last 10 minutes i upped the level to 14 from 10 and still maintained the 100 rpm cadence. Later tonight is 30 minute and core workout with the HM training group.

Well at least you got a rush out of it.

not funny really. It's the SUV thing that's nearly done me a couple of times. I strongly believe there should be a different test (from normal car test) for driving these things. They ARE NOT CARS.

in my humble opinion. [glad you're okay]

Busy morning... went to the gym early to find a spot in the spinning class (which I couldn't do for the past 3 weeks). So, some upper body weights. Then 1 hour of spinning (instructor is 4 weeks to her due date...) and finally 15 minutes of treadmill. Still qualifies as some kind of brick, right? Not to mention it's a triple day, first time this year.

Tithers, pack of wild chihuahuas??? I don't know why but the little dog from Mask comes to my mind...

Pete, I have another theory on why SUV seem a bit more dangerous, but I wouldn't want to be accused of sexism here.
