No taper required in the fun thread:)

I'm in another one of those cycles where I'm not really in a funk, but I have to look pretty hard to see the bright side. However, I think I can see the end in sight.

Greetings, all.

No real fun per se here. I've been debating on what to do regarding a dog that has been hanging around my house a bit since Monday. He's a shepherd/husky looking mix. No idea who he belongs to, but he does have a collar and a tag. (no idea if it's a rabies or ID tag). He let out one "ruff!" at me on Monday when i came home, and he started walking towards me as I checked the mail through the car window. One verbal 'NO" from me and he backed off, but not in a fearful way. I haven't tried to approach him, since he's big enough to cause some damage if he wanted, but now I'm thinking of trying now, as he hasn't made any threatening moves to me, or to my dogs (when they barked at him on the other side of the chain-link fence.).

I'd say stand your ground (near your open car door) with your hand out and call to it and see what happens. If it's just a lost dog, it'll probably nuzzle you. Otherwise, call the authorities.

Also, morning peeps.

Deep breaths, Amy!

I talked to my ex this morning, his uncle died earlier today (I knew he'd gone into hospice over the weekend.) I didn't know him that well, it was the side of the family we only saw about once a year, but I still feel badly...and I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. The wake and funeral are in CT, 2+ hours away. Normally, I'd just go to the wake, but obviously it's very far to drive for 30 mins of respects. And I'd feel weird going to the funeral, esp since it's not one of people I knew very well.

I just feel like sending respects and flowers aren't enough because I was part of the family for 15 years. *sigh*

I'd probably try to go to the viewing (is that the same as a wake?) if possible. Can you combine the trip with anything else? See anyone on the way or while you're in CT?

(((Amy)))

Congrats, Wip!

Ailarie, there was a loose dog in my 'hood a few years ago too, and it kept coming to my house or the neighbors' across the street. He was very friendly, luckily. I took him in several times. I think you're like me, and if you DON'T do something you'll regret it. Am I right?

Morning, everyone. Got a nice walk in this morning, which felt good since my exercising has been for crap recently. Cello this evening. Not much else fun. I am really digging the nice cool weather, though!

Oh, and Kath, I had the wrong Bachelor. I wasn't watching when the Brad guy was on; I thought you were talking about Jake. Thus, I really have no opinion. Because it's the only time I see my lady friends with any regularity, I'll watch no matter who's on.

You're both right. Theia - if he gets hit by a car (busy highway in front of the house), yeah, I'm going to wish I had done something sooner. Maureen - you have a good suggestion about trying from the car. Although he could jump in, at least there is a minimal protection for me. It just amazes me how careless some people are with their pets. /sigh

Maureen - I agree - although it's a long drive, if you feel that you should go to any part of the memorial, go to the viewing. It provides the opportunity to pay your respects, while keeping the most personal parts of the services for closer family/friends.

Yes, the wake is the viewing...and no, I really don't have anything else to do down there. I also don't want to make people uncomfortable.

Maureen - why don't you talk to R and see what he thinks? If he wants you there, then absolutely go. If he's so-so or says it's not necessary, send a card with a handwritten note sharing a favorite memory. I don't think tongues will wag if you don't go, and even if they did, I'm not sure you should worry about it too much, right?

Kath - darn! At least is was worth a shot asking.

Congrats Wippy! That is very cool.

Maureen - sorry to hear that - it is a difficult situation. Glad you figured out what to do.

Ailarie - good luck with the dog.

Fun: I had a hearing this morning defending a harassment injunction. The facts were a bit Jerry Springerish. But I won and client was very happy. I normally don't deal with that type of legal issue, so it was pretty fun getting to do it.

Hrmph No mystery dog sightings on my trip home during lunch. However, there was no mystery dog body on the side of the road either, so I'm pleased with that.

Is it just me, or is there not much fun going on today? Other than RIL's Jerry-Springer stuff? (Oh to be sitting in the courtroom as a spectator for that one!)

There's not 1, but 4 cruise ships in the harbour today. Interesting to see them all floating out there.

Lena said to me yesterday, out of the blue, "Mommy, do you know who else is my cousin?" I said, "Umm...no, who?" She said, very matter of fact, "The mailman." hee hee!

Just came back from a free lunch that the chamber of commerce was putting on. The guest speaker was a woman who coaches varsity soccer (she's originally from here). Her ideas: set goals (write them down, tell people about them to keep you accountable), have the courage to push through challenges when they arise, have confidence to take risks and learn from mistakes, enjoy and celebrate all victories, big or small.

Katholeenie my basset hound Ellie Mae is afraid of the baby gate, too, for the same reason. She was snoofing around it when she was a puppy and it fell on her and made an awful crash. She used to give it the stink eye when she'd see it. We left it at the last place we rented so she'd never have to be harrassed by it again.
