Ok, I'm not shy - I'll start this morning. Is everybody sleeping in today?

8 miles today in 40F with some mist, a pleasant change of pace from yesterday's temps. 1:07:26 (8:26) seemed more of an effort than it should have been, but at least I'm able to put one foot in front of the other w/o pain, so I have that going for me...

Good runs, all!

Our temperature keeps hanging around the freezing point, making for icy conditions on the pavement almost every morning. Today it was again too slippery for safe running, so I did just 3 miles indoors on a combo of track and treadmill.

Morning all. 70+ degrees here this morning and 95% humids. Front coming in and dropping to 50's this afternoon and then low down to 30 Sunday morning. That's cold for us. Should have IRC for Saturday's half.

5.75 miles this morning with some fartlek thrown in.

the snow level got down to maybe 4000 feet on the mountains (about 1500 feet above my house). running home up the hill i was treated to a snowy mountain sunrise scene as i ran up and out of the fog. ahhh, life in the desert southwest...

http://www.cs.arizona.edu/camera/

Cool view, MC. Good running and swimming, guys.

I'm home again today, but this time because my kids are sick. Could be strep, so we're going to the dr. later this morning. Before then I plan to get just a couple easy miles in on the TM.

I'm still worrying about my mom, in her home with no heat and electricity. I'm calling her in a few minutes and see if I can talk her into braving the roads to drive to her sister's house in KC. (I think my aunt has electricity...if not, my brother, who also lives in KC, does). I'd suggest she come to my house, but the roads north to Omaha are secondary and I think that would be a more treacherous drive.

Yoga - good. Biking to yoga - good. Biking to yoga, screaming down the hill, and suddenly noticing the frost-sparkles on the road - not so good. I went around the next corner like a little old lady and fell over anyway. Maybe I would have done better if I had just attacked the corner with confidence borne of ignorance.

Layers of winter clothing that happen to protect the body from abrasions when one falls off one's bike - good. I think the yoga ironed out most of the bumps, so no harm done.

A short swim on for lunchtime today, then utter pandemonium with kids, The Scot, and I all double-booked (in different locations across the city) the rest of the day. This week leading up to Advent III is always the hardest, as Christmas activities are peaking and regular stuff hasn't been cancelled yet. After Saturday, we can all start to breathe and actually begin to anticipate the coming of light in winter.

Anybody want to come up for the Sing-Along Messiah on Sunday afternoon? It should be an absolute hoot. Bring your own score.

10 miles with 12x400 + 200 recovery, goal=1:40-1:42, actual=1:38.25 avg

This was my best outing at the track in some time. I had the track all to myself. Usually there are at least a couple walkers who insist on walking clockwise on the inside lanes.

On a sad personal note, my grandfather passed away last night. Three weeks and one day earlier, he learned that he had leukemia, and the doctor gave him three weeks to live. He was a generous, loving, and wise man, was a WWII veteran, and was married to my grandmother for 70 years. He was also an avid runner into his 70s, and a walker in his later years (35-40 miles per week). We will miss him dearly.

ETA after reading Mill's post: Very sorry to hear about your loss. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Mcsolar, not seeing anything in your AZ cam?? Rats. I'm intrigued by the desert but have very limited exposure to it -- just a bit while visiting a friend who lived near the Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. What a cool place that was.

Mustang, YIKES! Do they make studded bike tires? Hope you don't end up with any residual soreness. Way to take one for the girls XT team! w00t w00t!

My friend canceled on me today but I am still planning to run at noon. Darn, I hate getting canceled on because my willpower goes in the toilet. Now that I think of it, "I" never cancel on anyone! harumpf.

I hope I can keep up with all the new CR people once that forum shuts down!

Millbot, I'm very sorry about your grandfather. Even though he was elderly, it's hard to lose a beloved family member. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

No running for me today - it's my long work day with EMT stuff too. Plus, my knee is bothering me more than yesterday. It's sore on the medial side plus sore behind the knee. It mostly hurts to straighten it out completely. Any guesses what's wrong? I didn't fall or hear it make a popping noise or anything like that. I also haven't done any unusual moves in exercise. I'd appreciate any info or suggestions or advice. If it's not starting to feel better tomorrow, I'll call the ortho.

Condolences, millbot, on the death of your grandfather. Sounds like he lived life to the fullest.

Quick post as I'm giving work the high sign and it's off to Victoria.

1 hr pool running

Darn fool reason to blow off work -- shopping (gick!) -- but I don't want to be that aunt.

MS, can we meet for a nosh or a nog? I'll take your cell # and try to find a pay phone, that is, if they exist anymore.
