5 TM miles this morning. Trying to add some TM miles for a more even, flatter, softer surface and work on form to help protect the old back.

Nice plan, Pink!

10 miles, ez today, also focusing on form and trying to keep from overextending and land midfoot. That part isn't too difficult, but I still need to consciously begin to draw my lead foot backward before it strikes the ground. I hope it becomes more natural as time goes on. 8:28 avg pace.

Smart run Pink on the TM. With our rainy season upon us here in Oregon starting Friday, I'll be hitting the TM probably once a week too. The soft surface does help.

Nice run Mike, I think a lot about form when I run too. Keeps me from getting too bored.

Irun, making a change to foot strike eventually becomes automatic. There was an interesting comment I read some time ago about how the body anticipates the landing and automatically adjusts to it. The writer said something like this (paraphrasing). "If you don't believe this is true, think about the times when you have walked down a set of stairs and thought you had one more to go and then your front foot hit the floor." I thought that was well put.

For those of you thinking about Boston lodgings, there is a lady here in Dallas, Diane Golden, who is a runner and has a travel business with lots of trips around common running destinations. I have used her company a couple of times and she is excellent. Going with her again in April. Check out her site if you are looking for a package:

My BIL Joe is also going with her. Pre-race pasta dinner is at Maggiono's, she has her own bus (with Rest Room!) and the hotel is a short walk from the finish. A good deal.

2.2 easy miles, 4th day in a row of no discomfort, so I think I am good to resume training next week. Spareribs

Javelina bib numbers are posted and I got 285. That's the same number as my Marathon Maniac number, so it must be a good omen.

Good Morning!

I need to take advantage of our last couple days of dry weather. I don't think I have more than a couple of 'shorts/shortsleeve' runs left. Today might hit 80 in Medford, so I'll take to the Bear Creek Greenway after work and work on that autumn runners tan.

I baked up a sugar pumpkin last night so that I have fresh pumpkin to use for a Thanksgiving pie. mmm, the house smelled good last night. Or it could have been from the oatmeal raisin I made for DH. probably a combination of both. Now I have lots of pumpkin though - more than I need for one pie, so will have to find another pumpkin thing to make.

Did 5k recovery yesterday which I've been back sliding on and tending to run too hard for a good while now.

So after my first mile, I got religion and did what Bhurgre1 tolt me. Run with your mouth shut. If have to breathe thru your mouth, you're running too hard.

I'm still quad sore from Sunday. Not bad, but not 100%.

Didn't I say no worries? I found a couple of clearance rack items during lunch shopping: travel-sized Banana Boat Sport sunscreen, $1.97, & Snickers Marathon Energy, 75 cents. Also a good omen. They just finished overseeding the 9-hole course Labduck & I are going to check out, also a good omen.

Yoga after work. Very little running for the next few days.

eta-Tammy, pumpkin muffins. I'll try to find the recipe online & post it in the food thread.

To paraphrase Col. Potter from M*A*S*H, both useful techniques, but hardly interchangeable.

irun, I totally get what you mean about drawing that lead foot backward, though I do it for a different reason. For me, I do it consciously (and continuously) to activate my core, and primarily with my right leg, since that's the side that I have issues with. That's how I've gotten over that persistent sacrum pain that was inhibiting my longer distance running, as well as increases in speed. Yes, proper form really is key.

I ran 5 miles in the park today in 45:30, then a bit more at a cooldown pace of ~10 min/mile. 5.7 miles in total, though I wasn't paying attention to how far I went in the cooldown. It just felt like it was enough, and then I looked at the watch. Glad that it came to a nice round tenth like that.

Dove, it is very cool that your bib number matches your Maniac number like that. Totally auspicious! I am so excited for your major event this weekend!! Yeah, I guess I am somewhat of an ultra-wannabe.... but for now, I'll live vicariously through you and others like you.

Hey! I do that! I was struggling with hills earlier this year and remembered JJJ saying that. So I tried it and boy it works like a charm. Also helps keep me from bending forward too much. I can't do the breathe thru my nose thing. Especially now when it's colder. My nose runs too much.

Best wishes to Dove for a really fun time. I know there will be parts that aren't so much fun, but you've sure lined up a greta support team and you've trained really well. Looking forward to hearing about this one!

Hey Spareribs, I usually do the opposite. Going down the stairs in the dark I'll forget where the end is and start stepping off like I'm done. Oops, one more step! I've banged up my elbows and ankles more than a couple times with that stunt. That anticipation thing is also why Tetsujin says don't try to learn running barefoot in grass, especially deep grass. It throws off your perception of where the ground is. Or something like that.

My last two TM runs have felt hard on my back, and my knees... but I think it's adapting to the flat steady surface and 1% incline after months of rough hilly running. Or I could just be totally out of the TM rhythm. I run on the TM to avoid the weather, but unlike Labduck I'll be probably doing it more than once a week. Oh well. Today will be an outdoor run though, as the day is warm, the sun is bright and the bikepath was cleared yesterday!

Hi all,

I'm still running but not posting much.

Congrats to Ribs and Paul on those amazing marathons...it's good to see that us old folks can still bust it out.

I've been running my same "boring" hills and staying injury free & I'm kind of tapering now for the upcoming R2B marathon on Oct. 30

{{{healing vibes}}} to everyone who is currently injured and I'll pop in every now & then to say hello.

Peter, you are another of those FB defectors, but just to protect your reputation as a runner, let me tell the others that you are running super right now (3 hours of running on a weekend morning and 2 hours undoing it at Starbucks however). Looking forward to your next big race. Spareribs

late check in for me. Maybe Erika will pop in soon too. My late night west coaster buddy.

7 miles for me tonight. It was such an easy run and I felt like I could have done double that, except when you don't run until after the 5:00 whistle, you don't have much daylight left. darn it.

Weather was as perfect as can be. probably still 70 when I started and easily shorts/short sleeves with just enough of autumn coolness evening air to make it a cool 70. Lots of bikers and runners on the greenway tonight - taking advantage of our last day or two of nice weather until the rain comes.
