Morning peeps.

I am up bright and early working at home rather than running. I have my first interval workout and decided to wait until the sun rises to hit the streets since it is still pretty icy out there. I just really didn't want to have to attempt .5 mile repeats on the treadmill if possible. Hopefully the temps will be bearable in an hour or so.

Other than that, it should be a relatively uneventful day for me today.

Mindi - we went to the Lowry Park Zoo when we took the kids to FL last year. It was a fantastic zoo - we had as much fun as the kids.

Here's DS in one of the bird exhibits - look away Maria!

Hey Kath - this was Daisy over vacation. She was determined to share the loveseat with me and them promptly fell asleep sitting up.

howdy peeps.

seriously distracted this morning and I've gotten nothing real done today. Sigh.

Got to see A last night for the first time since Christmas; I haven't met his kids, and he had them all week between Christmas and NY's so the first chance we had to get together was last night. Except that I totally goofed when I suggested he get off at a commuter rail station near the supermarket so we could get some groceries to cook...only I told him the stop BEFORE the market and then forgot my phone at home, so I couldn't even call him to let him know. At least the market is only about .5 mi or so from the stop I told him to get off, and he knows the area well enough that he found the market on his own. Still...I felt terrible and made supper that I knew he'd like to make it up to him. :)

I did run a mile outside in the TOG wind and cold...brrrrrrr! Felt good after though. I can't run tonight, but will try again tomw night.

QOD: maybe about 5*? I know that was the run when we got back and the stem on my eyeglasses broke when I took them off...I think the change in temp caused the break.

Yo, Hey kicksters!

I'm back home...in my office. after 2.5 weeks at Disney and 11 park days, the kids were not as eager to get up early for the school bus as they were for the bus to the magic kingdom.

I got out for a run with a couple of friends this morning. We went 7 miles...the temp was 26. Not too bad.

The good news: I felt like I gained about 10 pounds at Disney, but we didn't have a scale there. So, today, I got on the scale for the first time...yippeee no damage done from the holidays!!!

QOD: I don't know...I'm not a good runner in the super cold, so I guess probably around 10 or 11.

Welcome back Timr! Glad you had such a great trip. I am bummed we weren't able to meet up this time, but our trip was a total whirlwind (as I'm sure yours was too). Congrats on no weight gain. I didn't gain any either - we were so busy running around, we hardly had time to eat!

Shannon - cool pics! We got to pet little stingrays in Atlanta last year - pretty cool stuff. And the exhibits with the birds are pretty cool too. I went once in jacksonville, florida with my sister and one of the birds landed on her. She handled it quite well even though she is terrified of birds in close proximity. Hee hee. Daisy is hilarious too - love it.

Maria - any Dillon updates? Brandy - how is your mom? Hope everyone is hanging in there + some.

Welcome back, TimR and Beaker!

You know the ASPCA commercials on tv that absolutely break your heart? The ones that make you change the channel because otherwise you sit there with tears streaming down your face? (Or at least I do.) Well, last week after seeing one of them I sent myself a reminder and then went to the ASPCA website the following morning and joined. A monthly donation will now be taken out of my Amex card. Good so far, right?

No!

Now my PC tracking thingamajig keeps putting ASPCA ads on the sides of my pages when I have the Internet open and I have to see those heartbreaking little faces all freaking day. GAAAAAAAAAAA! I can't take it. Those little faces. So trusting and vulnerable!

Egad I am a sucker for a critter. Any critter, really. I love them all. It's people I'm not so crazy about. LOL

In other news, 4.25 on the treadmill this morning. My class rule is that we go out unless it's (a) too icy to be safe or (b) below 20*. (I had to make a cut-off, and 20 seemed as logical as anything else.) It was 12* with a windchill of 2* this morning, so I texted a few of the regulars to say we'd be inside. None of them showed up! Can't really blame them.

QOD: Checking my log, it looks like the coldest temp I've ever recorded on a run is +9*. I know that's like a heatwave for some of you upper-midwesterners, so I guess it's nothing impressive. But it doesn't get into the single digits here in NJ very often. Only rarely, and usually in the deep of the night, long after (or before) I'm outside running. I see that my warmest run was this past summer at 100*, although nobody asked that.

QOD part II: since boB mentioned it. I know that my warmest ever temp (not feels like temp) was a 4:00pm slog down the strip in Las Vegas where the temp was 106 !!!

Dillon has had 2 chemo treatments thus far and is doing well + we found that by lacing his food with tuna juices he'll eat it. When I went to pick him up on Monday after his treatment he'd gained a few ounces ... this is big! We have to jam his daily pills down his throat, well jam is probably harsh but we do have to force them down but other than that he's a very compliant patient. As for my pops, he starts chemo again tomorrow under the care of his new oncologist; this will be a new drug and we're all very hopeful including dad. He continues to be in great spirits although sorely missing any exercise or sustained activity.

speaking of running in the cold...

I have been negotiating with my landlords about setting up a home gym in the cellar. In as much as, I've said, if I get a treadmill, you can use it, if I can put it in the cellar. ;) they are cool with that, and will clear out a space for it, but I am now researching models.

What do you guys have at home?

Good news on Dillon and good thoughts for your pops!!
As long as you're sharing 30s mojo, I'd like to borrow some for my co-worker Colleen. She is the girl who has been fighting breast cancer for the last 4 years. It was diagnosed while she was pregnant and recurred 2 years ago in her lungs. Well, the latest is that they have found some brain mets. She had a gamma knife treatment about a month ago that was supposed to get it all, but she has just told us that they found 6-7 more spots this week. So now she has to have daily brain radiation for a while. She's fighting as hard as she can, but it's getting harder. Sometimes I just wonder how this can be part of life's plan.

mom is ok. When I was home for xmas, she had to get 2 units of blood due to low counts before her chemo last week. She also met with her dr and it pretty much sounds like chemo will be a routine thing for her for the rest of her life as the cancer she has is likely to come back w/o ongoing treatment. In addition, she'll be having a brain MRI soon as she has had some walking issues (she goes to the left) since her radiation treatment last year. sigh

I just got a lovely note about the finisher's mug from a lady from PA who ran the Fool's 50k last year. She signed up to do it this year and saw my info on the web site, so sent the note.
brandy, wow. thats a lot to take in even for me, from a distance. cont ((( ))), love, and prayers for you and your family. i bet your running has been therapeutic in dealing with this all. nothing like hammering out some super fast intervals in frustration.

qod: back in wisco, i ran in -10 or so. my only condition was that it not be icy out. i also ran out in white out blizzards. it was fun :)

qod2: nothing too crazy, maybe 100 or so? one of the hottest days i ran was with maria on the anniv of voo's passing.. it was like, 95F or so out but i was also like, 38 weeks pregs or so. we walked a lot :)

i have been doing some reflecting as i clean out my inbox and it was 1 year ago when i was struggling with severe postpartum depression. in fact, right around this time is when i hit rock bottom and came up with a plan to (this might be hard to read and sure is difficult to write) drown AK so i could go to jail because in jail, there was designated time to sleep and a lifetime in jail with designated time to sleep sounded better than what i was going through.

i was rereading some of the emails that my 30s family sent me. the support and encouragement i received here was tremendous and helped me know that i wasn't alone in the battle. help and encouragement came in the form of brownies, adorable figurines, PMs, texts, cards, visits, and aid with transportation so i could get back home to CA for "rehab". i can't begin to say how grateful i am to you all. thank you. from the bottom of my heart.
