Morning friends

Go relay racers. I'd guess they are off and running by now.

Schedules rearranged for dw and I this morning. She just left for San Antonio to help dd move across the apt complex to a larger unit. I wasn't invited. So she had to run her long run of 14 today instead of tomorrow but had no training partners to run with her. 2:36:00 later we were done. She wasn't very sproinky today for some reason. Got most of it done before sunrise and after the sun was up it was not too bad today.

Heard some birds this morning I'd never heard before. I was thinking to myself their song sounded like "thank you" "thank you". DW then says it sounds like they are saying "thank you". I wonder what kind of birds those are?

What are you thankful for today?

KS, I like your "thank you" birds. If I had to quantify my thankfulness, I guess I'd have to say I'm thankful for my awareness. If nothing else, I'm never bored!

Leaving the house shortly to meet my new running pal at her house to run her usual route, so we can measure it exactly with my Garmin. Ah, that's it! I'm thankful for randomly meeting a new friend to run with in the park several weeks ago! It's been something I've been wanting for a while now. As much as having a virtual running community at my back, there really is nothing better than having a real live person to share my running with.

That said, I'm off! Good runs to all.

Good Morning -

Nice running together ks & mrs. ks!

Thanks for the bday wishes for mini-pink - that name is appropriate as she is a little me which she has heard most of her life when we go places . . . Some people would say "You have a mini-me". One of her comments, when younger, was "I'm sick and tired of being called a little Kim". (we need more smilies!)

17.7 miles for an incredible end of July day - could not ask for better running weather being July - 60's and low humidity!

Hope the relayers have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

10 slow miles. hot and humid, as we had a big thunderstorm blow through in the early morning hours. no cycling today... legs are still dead, which doesn't bode well for tomorrow's speed workout. gulp.

OM - that's a pleasure I've never been able to find - a running partner. Have fun.

Nice LR's Pink, KS, and Mrs KS.

Screw all this talk about patience. I'm hurt and it's getting aggravating. I went out for a GA 6 miler this morning in IRC since my elliptical + TTM (Tiny Treadmill) sessions had been going so well. The hammy was sore and tight the whole way. By the time I decided it wasn't going to loosen up I was already committed to the 6 mile loop. 8:27 avg pace, but I can already tell there'll be no followup runs in the near future. What a pain in the butt (literally).

On a positive note, tomorrow is anniversary #34 for DW and I. We're dining out tonight. I'm a lucky man.

Mari... it never seems to matter how much weight I lose, my thighs always overlap. So I only run in compression shorts or tights or I get a bad case of the chub-rub too!

Hey tomwhite, glad to be of assistance... in any way I can, right? I will say that this is the best running year I've had in awhile, and I really do credit all the cross training I did last winter/spring. The only problem is... I seem to not be finding the time (or discipline) to do that these days. I'm sure I'll get back to it when summer and the racing season here winds down. Just too many other things on my To Do list!

Happy Anniversary, irunmike! Wow... 34 years. That's really a long time to spend with the same person. I have a hard time spending that much time with myself! Enjoy yourselves at dinner!

Mini-pink. Wow... must be a big difference between boys and girls. DS1 looks a lot like his dad. But if you'd called him mini-anything I'm sure there'd be trouble.

I'm thankful for my good health and family, and all my wonderful friends. I may whine and bitch every now and then, but I really have it pretty good.

Mariposai, not sure what to tell you about the chafing... sorry to hear that though. Ouch!

I'm loving this afternoon off business. Today I'll run just a little, putter a lot and pick up DS2 from work at 4:30, then the whole evening to do whatever. Our biggest problem will be figuring out what to have for dinner. The kids are usually pretty easy, I might even get away with soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Tomorrow is an early haircut, a 10 mile run, and berry picking with my sister! Sunday will be complicated because DH will be home and I've got a 20 miler to run before a 2 pm soccer game and a birthday party/bbq for a friend that'll go into the evening. Tempted to do the 20 miler tomorrow, but not sure my legs will be ready for it... and it'll cut into blueberry time!!! What to do, what to do... (and like I said, I've got it pretty good if this is my big issue for the weekend.)

Same here as well. I've been running in these shorts lately, not the most comfortable on warmer days, but at least they're a bit more flattering on my body than compression shorts.

Happy anniversary to irunmike! That's quite a milestone, 34 years. We're coming up on 24 years this September. Congrats all around.

8 miles today, 3.5 of which were with my running partner. I really hadn't planned on going that far today, but when faced with the boring uphill run home from her house, I opted for the more scenic (and twice as long) route through the park instead. So it's gotten me wondering if my theory is true: it makes one a stronger runner when you stop after a couple miles, take an hour or half-hour break, start up again for a few more miles, etc..... lather, rinse, repeat. Any opinions out there?

Well, today was supposed to be a yoga day, but I overslept, so I guess that got pushed to tomorrow. Unless I oversleep again tomorrow too....

I'm thankful I don't chafe much. "Thank You! Thank You!"

Today 3 of my running friends (for whom I am truly thankful) and I ran a 3.5 mile route in a little over 37:00. We are enjoying the 2 week rest and recovery period that I built into their Half Marathon training program (and it coincides with my semi-annual R&R period, oddly enough). The R&R ends on Sunday August 8th, and we will be thankful to get our legs moving a little more quickly when that day comes around, but for now we are thankful that our bodies need to be rejuvenated a couple of times a year, and that we're having perfect easy recovery jog weather here in upstate NY right now. (There isn't a whole lot to be thankful for in Upstate NY right now actually....ok that's an exaggeration).

I am thankful for you, my virtual friends, and I am also truly thankful for my wife, my four healthy and generally happy kids, my relatively stable quasi-NY State job, and our house with a new roof (YAY!). Tomorrow is my oldest son's hs graduation party, and it is so hard to believe that the little bug that used to fall asleep cradled on my stomach is now a man. Man.

I know what you mean, BTY. Our 18 year old is headed to college this fall, although not far as it's here at UAF, but it's amazing to think back on all the years of him growing up, from the first smile to crawling around (I remember he always tried to crawl into the dishwasher!), learning to ride his bike, first goal in soccer... all that stuff. Now if I could just get him to shave that stupid fuzzy stuff off his chin, but he wears it like a badge of honor or something. Pretty weird.

3.4 miles today, wow it got a lot warmer than I thought it was. I parked at the end of our road (hill avoidance technique), ran an out and back on the relatively flat bike path, then went shopping. Holy cow, it's like Saturday afternoon out there! What's going on that 2:30 pm is so crowded at the grocery store?? Thought it'd be a quick trip but took over an hour. Ugh. Oh well. Saves me more time for the berry patch tomorrow!

I am thankful for eliptical trainers!!

Lab, I don't use the handholds when I do the eliptical. They make it real jerky and hard to get the heart rate up. I hold on in the middle. Tonight I did an hour and ended up with 12.39 miles and an elevation gain of 8,300 ft!! According to the machine, this herculean effort burned about 560 calories. I am guessing I didn't go quite as fast but may have burned a few more calories. My avg heartrate was 138 as I was at 155 when I stopped.

The last 10 minutes I was going at 210 steps/minute.

Wow rip, 210 steps/min! Do you super glue your feet to the pedals?

I don't use the handholds either. I just target my running cadence of 180 steps/min, and adjust the elevation to get my HR somewhere near 150 bpm, which is my easy running pace. But the distance per minute is much less than my running pace.

I did a bunch of yard work this evening in preparation of being away on vacation for the next week. I am thankful for paid vacation!
