Yo.

I have a 8k event at 10am this morning, and while that meant that I couldn't exactly be a bum and sleep in, I am unsure why my body thought I needed to be wide awake at 5:30am. Probably had something to do with the fact that i crashed on the couch around 8:45ish and then dragged myself to bed around 10:15.

Ladies, if you ever want to learn about the Genie bra, 5:30am is apparently the time of day to find infomercials on it.

Oh yeah - events. The one i"m going to this morning is really small (at least for the 8k part). I'm still nervous about running outdoors though and screwing up the ankle again. Other than the HM on turkey day, I've not run outside since the ankle injury, a month ago. Hopefully today will be an injury-free day. I'm looking forward to the hot apple cider that is served at the end of the race. (and hoping that there will be some left by the time the 8k people finish up (last group to finish!)

Yesterday's topic of braces/casts etc that we wanted as kids was kind of funny. I remember in 5th or 6th grade, (private school, so there were only 25 or so in my class), one of the kids got braces and had lots of those little colored rubber bands. They shared, and those of us who did NOT need dental corrections wore them anyway. Typically across our two front teeth. That lasted just long enough for our parents to find out. Eek!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Hi Ailarie! Good luck on the 8k! Sending speedy, no-injury, race vibes your way!

Brandy - how was the Ladies Night at TC last night? I didn't end up going.

It's cold here. 17* My friend Nick is running a short race (5K? 10K? Can't remember) up in the Detroit area and it's just 10*. Wasn't expecting it to drop that low overnight, I had thought it was only getting into low 20's. Brr. Glad I'm not out for a race, December is too early to race in that kind of cold. I can talk myself into it in late Jan or Feb when it's been cold like that for weeks, but not the first day of the season.

Speaking of running, my heel seems to finally be getting better, I haven't even noticed it the past several days. I won't start running again until I get new shoes, so probably after the start of the year, but I think with good shoes and a better stretching routine, I can make it work right this time.

I'm headed over to a friends place for a cookie baking party today. I'm either going to make some lemon icicles or the chocolate peppermint sammich cookies that Theia posted a few weeks ago.

Casts - I broke my foot in the winter of 4th grade and had a cast up to my knee for a good 6 weeks. It didn't get me out of walking to school in the snow though. Mom just tied a black garbage bag over it (it was a walking cast with the rubber nubs on the bottom) and sent me on my way through the snow drifts. The black bag and ugly plaid uniform skirt were quite a look.

Today: Never got the living room packed up last night (I was in bed at 8:30) so we're working on that today and moving furniture. I'm trying to just stick to the small stuff, but Dh is going to need help moving the piano and couch and tv cabinet thing. UG. Back already hurts from bending & carrying stuff and we didn't even get to the piano, couch or tv cabinet yet. Blech.

Morning, friends. I'm currently uploading over 300 photos so I can make this year's family calendar. After I finish that, I will continue to scan family photos so I can make my "Dad" book. I hope that I can have the book together for Christmas presents, but I have a Plan B in case that doesn't work out.

Good luck Ailarie!

((((Kath)))) Take care of you.

I think it's funny that people wanted braces as a kid. I think that braces are what started my self-esteem issues. I was the first one in my class to get them, and I felt like a freak.

I fell asleep watching a movie last night. The movie was good but I was exhausted. Woke up at 6:00 this morning but was able to go back to sleep until 7:30.

I'm enjoying the smell of baking bread. I need to start getting the ingredients for my uncle's pumpkin cookies.

Why are my posts so random? My brain is not working in any kind of organized manner.

Weight loss challenge: I think Brandy's suggestion about waiting until after the holidays makes sense, but I know that people may need motivation not to overindulge over the holidays, so we could do a December mini-challenge where this Monday could be starting weigh-in and Jan. 2 could be the final weigh in and the winner can be the person who lost the largest percent body weight. Numbers probably won't be huge, but it'll be something. Then we could have Jan. 9 be the initial weigh in for the big WLC. What do people think?

a) Trying. But holy mother we just moved the piano. 2 little people trying to move a 90ish year old f-ing heavy upright = lots of grunting and stuff. I want to be done for the day (totally ready for that!), but still need to mask off the windows, doorways, fireplace and built-ins. And I need to glaze pots and load the kiln. Loading the kiln (or really, putting the shelves in) is another not-back-friendly project. And now I really don't have anywhere to sit, because all the furniture is crammed in the foyer & dining room.

And then I'm going to make some [clay] birch logs for the fire place. Ssssshhhhhhh. They're for Dh for Christmas. He's wanted the for a long time and doesn't know I'm making them. I ordered some amber colored lights, and bought some white ones, and I'm going to poke holes in the logs so the bulbs can poke through. Hopefully behind the screen it'll resemble fire.

2) I didn't want them. The kids I knew that had them always hurt. (Thankfully I never needed them.)

d) Me too!!! I miss being able to eat it. I don't miss what it does to me.

iv) I'm good with that. I'll make up a spread sheet - any one who wants to do the mini challenge, send me your weight Monday.

Yes, Happy Brrf-day KP! Hope the day is filled with all sorts of good stuff!

Weight loss thing: I'm definitely out for anything over the holidays. Stress levels are through the roof, and while sometimes I actually do make good food choices, there are days where I say 'Screw it", and wolf down whatever is easy to get to. After the holidays, I may consider the WL program, though I may just be a ninja and do my own single-party thing from the sidelines. I hate the idea of a failure on my part to screw up a team effort!

Today's event was good. The 8K field was much bigger than it has been in the past, which means no AG award for me for the first time in 3 years. (Bah!). In all fairness, I was about 2.5 minutes slower than last year (should realistically be expected with the lack of training of late), but even if my time had been the same as last year's, there were at least 3 people that would have beaten me, anyway. I think I came in 5th this year for my AG, but 5th out of how many? Ahh well. At least I didn't screw up the ankle, and there was plenty of spiced apple cider post-event. :)

Sounds like a good race, Ailarie. Congrats!

I ran 19.7 miles today. Like many of my recent long runs, it was a bit of a struggle near the end. I could feel my legs tightening up around Mile 14, but I forced myself to finish the rest of it. I have a feeling that the marathon in Arizona next month will be a slow one. Oh well. I took an ice bath after the run for the first time in a long time. Hopefully that helps avoid any extended period of sore legs...

Ladies night was awesome - I got a pair of CWX compression tights, those socks that produce their own warmth and a pair of nike combat pro spanky underwear shorts for $95!! In addition, I won a pair of Mizuno shoes :)

I ended up with these. I was almost put in them before and if they don't work for running, they are super cute. Yes, those are flowers on the back :)

Ran a 5k this morning in less than ideal conditions. Lots of wind, temp about 8 F or so and some icy turns (lots of turns). The race was a fun run and a really cute one at that. Instead of numbers, you had jingle bell bracelets, you started by singing Jingle bells and the START was the word DASHING, we got our picture with Santa afterwards and for after race snacks, they had hot apple cider and RICE KRISPY BARS. Seriously, I love this race. :) It was only 20 and DH got 2nd place male and won 25 worth of stuff so BAM

Running 14+ tomorrow in my new tights!!

Great job on the 8K girl!! and yeah bob for that long run!

Brandy - nice score.

Run - managed a solid 20 miles this morning at a fairly comfortable 8:03 avg pace. Still feeling a little beat up from the Nov marathons.

Just got back from my 'long' run of 7 miles. 19° with a stiff headwind. Dunno what wind chill is.

BZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Dh is starting to sand the living room and the floor all the way out to the kitchen is all vibrate-y. (woohoo! ) We decided to tackle the living room by it's self since it's large, and then do the sunroom last. Sunroom will be easy enough to block off even if Oskar is here while we're working on it.

boB, that how-you-doin' guy makes me giggle every time.

Nice work Elizabeth!

Duck and KP, how's recovery?

I'm enjoying all the Christmas cards. Ours will likely be new years cards.

Yeah Tim, 8:03 is pretty darn fast for a 20 mile training run. Nice work! Houston is in about a month, right? I'm sure you'll kick ass. How many marathons will this be? I know you and I have just about the same amount, but I think the recent ones you've done have put you ahead of me. I'll guess that Houston will be #23 for you. Is that about right?

Good morning!

Nice long runs Tim and Bob!

Hope your new tights made your run more enjoyable, Brandy! Nice score with all the stuff!

Nice job with your 8K Ailarie!

My long runs are also around 7 right now, Kath. Sounds downright chilly!

I'm just waiting for my running partner to call me so we can head out. The plan was for 7, but neither of us at all last week. We'll see how today goes. We might adjust it a little bit. This week will be a better running week.

DH is meeting with the people who are selling the house to hammer out an offer. We have gone back and forth so many times, that we had actually pulled the offer on Thursday. They were making it way too hard. It just wasn't worth it to me. Well, he came home on Friday and told me he was going to meet with them today. I was honestly fine with walking away from it, but it would be nice to be in a house of our own instead of a rental. I guess the reality is setting in that I am officially a Virginian now. Time to turn it into a home.

Have a great rest of the weekend!
