Memories from a year ago!

Jasper, the Tahoe Rim winner is about 45 minutes behind the current leader...wonder if he can catch up?
Btw...where the heck is Meltzer!? I thought he owned this race, but he's not on the starters list?
My buddy Gilles, just went through Swallow Rocks...not his best pace, but I'm not surprised...he ran Teton 100 (met merigayle) & Cascade Crest in the last 2 weeks. He might just keep plowing through with the same pace & still finish strong...I hope that's the case.
Gilles is a machine!
I hope he's a washing machine!

He just made it through Big Mountain at mile 40ish...loads of fun...pink flamingos, people dressed as cows, lots of noise & activity....now comes a good long downhill towards Lamb's Canyon (just passed 1/2 way). It'll probably be dark by the time he gets there.
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey you two. Here are some pictures of Gilles from today. His MIL and FIL ran in the last little bit with him. She was saying how cute it was that all the kids were running in with their parents so she decided to do it too.

Lucy and her mom were bound and determined to pick up where we left off at the Tetons with the crocheting. I actually got quite a bit done! I was very impressed with myself. Here is a picture of the 3 of us sitting around Gilles while we crocheted.

It was good times. They are great people. She gave me the crochet hook that I was using as a momento of our times together. It is amazing how strong the comraderie was at both races. It.was.very.cool. I haven't ever wanted to do a marathon, but now I've been bitten.

great pictures Solitude!!!!! Gilles is a machine!!!!!!! I have no idea how these people run consecutive 100's. I ran four miles on monday and it was hard!!!!
Just got back from out of town, so I couldn't post the last few days.

Great photos solitude!!!

Gilles had an amazing year...he actually did 3 100's in a row...BUT...he did another 100 miler 2 weeks prior to that streak, as well as a 50 miler prior to that, & Tahoe Rim 100 the week prior....he also did the Vancouver 100, Big Horn 100, & McNaughton (where he met TimLooney) in the months prior. Quite a year!

Btw...his Wasatch time was 35:44...made the cut-off with 16 minutes to spare. In the time it took him to run that race, I had already gone about my usual Saturday affairs, went to bed, woke up on Sunday, caught a plane to LA, connected to OC, checked into my hotel, caught a cab, went to Huntington Beach, bought some surf shorts, & I was sitting at Fred's Mexican Cafe with a cold brew in my hand before he finished.
The plane covered the 100 miles in less than 12 minutes.
Weird persepective.
i ran 4 miles monday and it was not easy. cannot imagine how he cranks those races out.
....slow & steady. He's like a freight train.
