Me too!! And I won't have a choice, have to hold someone's hand through an experiment today and still manage to get my own stuff done!

So yesterday was the first day of school around here. Our township decided this year to switch everything around so 2 schools are all 1 and 2 graders and one is 3 and 4th. And there are before and after school programs at each, etc. Apparently it was a total cluster F! My neighbors son started 1st grade. Got on the wrong bus going home and he ended up on the other side of town, got home at 5pm!! Another neighbors kid was put on the bus despite her saying she was supposed to be in the after school program. She was sent home on the bus and luckily another parent knew she wasn't supposed to be there and grabbed her before she went to an empty house. Unreal! I would be livid if I were these parents!!

Hope everyone else's little ones had a smooth first day, if they just started!!

Yikes...that is a mess, Lori!

The temps have cooled off. I'm wearing black dress pants and a grey shirt and boots with socks. *sigh* Fall is coming and there's not a darn thing we can do about it. Embrace it, I guess!

My sisters and I took the kids to see Nanny McPhee 2 last night. Lena enjoyed it. I enjoyed the snacks. : )

Good morning!

Beaker - I really admire your school district for taking that leap. It's something I would love to see here at my work. Imagine the possibilities! Walking into a building that is totally geared toward your child at their level, consolidating resources, library materials, counselors, reading specialists, etc. Wow. That being said, the transition can be very challenging. We pick up all the students at their elem buildings and then do bus transfers at the MS/HS complex so all kids get on their proper bus home (which may not be the bus they rode from their school). We held the buses (busses?) 15 extra minutes to be SURE all the kids were on their correct bus. Situations like that are a school's worst nightmare.

I posted on fb yesterday that I realized I had no more elementary kids - my baby started middle school yesterday (4th grade). While I really don't have a problem getting older, it just struck me a little funny yesterday. sigh

Heh. I have already been more productive then yesterday.

Our kids also have 4 levels of school.

Elementary: K-3

Intermediate: 4-6

Middle: 7-8

High: 9-12

We will have kids on three different school schedules until DD is a junior in HS, when DS#1 will be a freshman. It makes for PIA logistics.

Hi all!

Busy day here. Likely to start a trial today -- last one in Seattle! I hit the road in 9 days. Hoping to see some Minneapolis peeps on the 20th, then will be stopping in Toledo to see on the 22d before heading home on the 23rd!! Was hoping to have more stops and see more people, but as the time approaches, I realize two things: 1) driving for that long by myself won't really be that much fun; and 2) I really, really just want to get there.

Only sightseeing I have planned is a trip to the Field of Dreams. Can't wait to see it.

Anyway, that is my only fun. Back to work!!

Oh! -- Hope school days are treating MOST of you well. Sounds like Beaker's township has some kinks to work out.

See you all later!!

Clare, I really liked the first Nanny McPhee movie.

I watched Leap Year last night...it was like a poor rip off of The Sure Thing, only set in Ireland. I still enjoyed it though, since it was mindless and the Irish guy was cute (and vaguely reminded me of The Guy. )

Ridiculous commute this morning...it was the perfect storm of weather (thunderstorms), and circumstances (first day of school for Boston, and 2 days after the long weekend). It took me 45 mins to drive 5 miles.

I hadn't heard about this. Thanks for posting it. I'm fascinated by this kind of stuff. I'm already looking forward to the near-approach of Apophis on April 13, 2029.

I find it amazing that they can predict that a huge asteroid (1150 feet long) will pass within the orbit of geosynchronous satellites nearly 20 years from now, but that there's virtually zero chance that it will hit the earth. The fact that they can be that precise is incredible...

Hey Moe, it looks like I'll be in Boston next weekend. I'll be seeing the same idiot friends I saw last March when we met up with you and your friends. I'll be coming up on Friday Sep 17 and maybe seeing a Sox game that night. (Since they are tanking, tickets should be easy to acquire). Saturday afternoon (Sep 18) will be a college football day at McFadden's, where the Boston Gator Alumni Club meets. But I've got no plans for Saturday night. You gonna be around?

Yes! let's plan to do something! You can crash at my place if you want, btw, so you don't have to try to get the train back. Heh.

Maureen I didn't see the first Nanny McPhee movie but my sisters were going on about how funny it is! I watched Leap Year a while back, too. It was cute. Sometimes you're just in the mood for that sort of thing. I've been jonesing to see Mamma Mia again lately. I've seen it already, but it's a cute movie with lots of singing and dancing and a nice venue, too.

There is some logic to it - sort of. I live in a pretty rural area. Until 10 years ago, there were three levels (K-5, 6-8, 9-12). A lot of new subdivisions went up in the last 15 years. The HS is about 10 years old. Because of increasing student populations, it did not make sense to just get rid of the old HS building, so it became the Intermediate school.

DD wanted to see Nanny McPhee2 also. We enjoyed the first one and I'm glad to hear the second one is just as good. Maybe that will be this weekend's treat.

There was a line that I loved from the first move "When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go."

I picked up a couple ridiculously delicious brownies while up in VT. They're made by a company featured on Bobby Flay's Throw Down --- the magic ingredient was goat cheese. Drooooool.
