As of today there are approx 1200 spots still available for this great event.

http://www.runvermont.org/

There will be a lot of Kick and CH people there including me. It will be my 9th consecutive VCM. Who's in and more importantly, who's not in that we have to goad into signing up?

Hi Doc, I am in this year. Are you running the unplugged half marathon ? I will be there if the weather is decent and some of the ice melts by then. I am also planning on Eastern States. Happy running and think spring... I wimped out of my first 20 miler this past weekend due to the ice, did a bunch of TM miles instead. I can't do 20 on the TM.

Hazelrah, I am not running the ES 20 this year. Instead, I'm taking a little vacation out to New Mexico to run the Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon on 3/30. It will be a nice little training run 22 days before Boston. I'm a bit undertrained so far and also blew off a run on Sunday. It was very dangerous out there. Only got 5 miles on the TM before it started acting up. My goal is to enjoy the Bataan Marathon as a tourist, then be somewhat ready for Boston and use both as a springboard to a fast VCM (weather permitting, as always).

Gingerbread, you're lucky to have been picked for the half relay.

Other then the "Death" part, your New Mexico run sounds great. Getting out of New England sounds great right now, I am tired of gray skies. Nothing but gray and gloom until further notice in the 10 day forecast. Have a great time ! Hope you can spend some time out there to look around.

Gingerbread, have fun training for the half marathon relay. As Walt said, I think those are tough slots to get. You doing the front end or back end ?

Gingerbread, I ran the 2 person relay last year. Try to do the second half it's better

Other than the wait and not knowing exactly when you start, you get more of the fanfare, you get the medals placed on you for both team members, you get to cross the finish. Whereas the first person running stops at the halfway mark and there's nothing, no food, no fans, and then they have to get back to the finish either by walking or try to catch the shuttle bus. Kinda crappy how they set it up.

I was happy we got in. My running buddy's other running buddy did not get in but people do drop out and at least this race allows transfers of bibs.

I don't know yet. I did the last part last year, and it wasn't bad, except for the rain and cramps. I'll see what my relay partner wants to do. I don't really mind, but probably I'll do the second half again because then I don't have to get up quite as early to get to town (1 hour drive). We'll see.

I did the second half last year, too!

I thought the shuttle to the 1/2 way point worked well, but haven't had to use it to get back to the start. It's not a long way back to the start from the 1/2 way point anyway.

Count me in! DH and I didn't get a 2-person relay, so I signed up for the full. Not planning for a fast time, but am sick of either sitting home on marathon day or being last minute sub to run a crappy leg of a relay!

Hazelrah - I'm already registered for the Unplugged Half. I think my schedule calls for something like 17 that day, so I may run a warmup to the start prior to the race. Unplugged was fun last year. It doesn't really feel like much of a race once you get to the bike path (maybe because I was pretty far back in the pack). There are spray painted mile markers, but you pretty much have to know where to run. I was amused when I went past ECHO and there were the normal crowds of walkers and dogs...

Hi Laura, good to hear from you. I will be passing on the movie since I am taking all day back country first aid courses in Waterbury with the GMC (SOLO) Saturday & Sunday, which means I have to run Friday night. Not sure if I will be able to squeeze in a run Saturday or Sunday.

I hope the ice is off the bike path by Unplugged HM, was it icy last year ? I wish it was about a month later. I know ice can linger on the shady sections of the bike path for quite a ways into spring.

Good luck with your training. See you at unplugged HM or elsewhere. Cheers.

Yeah, Vermont runners! I'm not sure if I'm in for this year's race- I might go out to Maine for the Pineland Farms 50k/50m, but I hope everyone has a blast.

Might go to the movie, too...

I don't remember any problems with ice. It was terribly cold that day though - took a couple of miles before I could feel my toes!

I'll probably go to the late show of Spirit Of The Marathon. I've got to work till 4 or 5PM, then I've got a 9.5 mile run on the schedule. I'll just need to find a place to take a shower. I could always just stand in the cold rain for a few minutes...

Hah! Bring soap.

It looks like I'll be helping my running buddy with one of his home computers (getting it back on the wireless network) so I doubt I'll make it to either showing of the movie. Depends on how long it takes me to fix it up. At least they feed me It would be a good place to have a nice meetup, though.

If I knew when I would be done, I'd offer the office shower, Walt, but I don't know when I'll finish.

Well, I didn't go to the movie. I got out of work at 6:30, then did a 9.5 mile run in the Burlington slop while you guys were sitting on your lazy asses watching the flick.

I'm glad you got your run in. I only ran 3 then fixed up my buddy's computers and wireless access before going home. I needed the sleep anyway.

The Spirit of the Marathon was pretty good. It followed both elite and back of the pack runners (not enough midpackers though!). The really emotional part of it for me was that it was about the 2005 Chicago Marathon (I knew it was filmed during Chicago but didn't realize it was '05). That was the year I ran and crashed hard - on pace for BQ through 35K, then fell down on course, disoriented, ended up dropping out at mile 23. I cried during the scenes at the starting and finishing line.

How's VCM training going? I did 17 miles today and due to a delayed long run last week, I have run 53 miles from Monday through today. I'm feeling a little beat up and looking forward to a cut back week next week.
