It's hard not to know Nick if you do these races and live in NY. As for oldtimers I resemble that and I'm older then Nick.

We have a hill that is 2,500 over 5 miles with hardly a break. We do laps, running one or two and then hiking one or two. The hill is much like the climbs at Vermont. We run the laps just to do build overall strength and the hikes are a must for race day. We try to work up to 10,000 feet of up and respective down. It's a soild base for the 100 which has 15,000 and back end loaded.

If you or Emmy are interested in the runs contact me outside this forum. Just a heads up, these are bloody long pulls. It often takes years to run the whole way but the good part, one can run/hike it just as fast so we can stay together, assuming some base strength.

I use the road section of this hill now to train for the HAT and Bull Run.

By the way take a look at Fat Ass 50k pictures.
www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/players

Use the same web page on Thursday to see the write up on the race. Pete is not only one of the RD's but does the weekly running column for the Pok rag. I really like his column - he covers runners and not just times. I'm sure he'll take some disparaging yet deservedly shot at me.
