First one not preceded by a swim and bike ride, that is. Perfect racing weather, 40F and foggy. Totally flat course with lots of out-and-back sections.

Goal: 1:40 - 1:45.

Splits:

1 - 7:53 No worries

2 - 7:34 Whoops

3 - 7:43 That's better

4 - 7:40 Legs still tight

5 - 7:42

6 - 7:45

7 - 7:36 Starting to feel perky

8 - 7:36

9 - 7:30 Starting to push

10 - 7:24

11 - 7:25 Suffering

12 - 7:32 Fighting hamstring cramps

13 - 7:23 Hanging on for dear life

Finish - 1:39:31

Good for 98th of 450 or so. Age groups were 5-yr increments with the top 10 getting a beer mug. I came in 14th. 14th in age group with a 7:35 pace! Bunch of fastholes out there, I tell ya.

Woohoo!. Vancouver Lake is one of those races with deep, deep fields. BD ran from home today since a lot of his Sunday crew were out there! You ran a good race with great pacing! So, uh, what did you think about running by the finish line four times?

Thanks, but I doubt it. Been running a lot lately, at the expense of the bike. Time to shift over to the bike, at the expense of the run. You know how that goes.

Wasn't looking forward to it, but actually kinda liked it. Made the course not feel as "long" mentally as running 6.5 miles away and then turning around to come back.

Thanks! Flat course, but yes - I paid a lot of attention to my pacing from start to finish.

Yeah, no doubt. That's pretty farkin solid. Negative splitting a HM? Yeah, good stuff. Of COURSE it was hurting at the end...else you were slacking! Good work!

Great job!!! Not easy to negative split a half............what was the hardest part for you? For me mile 11-12 is always the toughest, once I hit 12 I'm happy.

Nice job Matt. The HM can be a tough distance, if you really push yourself. Not long and slow like the marathon. You paced well, had your final mile as the fastest. And like anything else, it takes time to master the distance. Very solid for your first HM!
