Bottom Line....1:58:01 gun time. 1:57:22 chip time.

Weather was not foul, but not great. Cloudy with light rain, but not enough to soak your clothes or anything.

My goal was 1:55 to 1:58. I was planning to go out in 5k splits of 28, 27, 28, (hill) 27, and then bring it home in 6 min over the final 1.1k, for a total of around 1:56 or thereabouts. That would make it a fat PR of almost 4 minutes on my best previous HM at Niagara in 2002. I managed to PR by a good margin, but lost an extra minute on the hill as so did not manage to make 1:56 as planned.

Mile splits were:

1 - 9:27
2 - 8:46
3 - 8:58
5k - 27:58
4 - 8:54
5 - 8:36
6 - 8:54
10k - 55:30
7 - 9:04 (Beginning a hill)
8 - 9:47 (Hill)
9 - 9:44 (Hill)
15k - 1:24:20
10 & 11 - 17:08 (Downhill)
12 - 8:36
1.11 - 9:28

The best thing about the race was my daughter, who ran under 1:37 in her first ever HM. She was originally targetting 1:45, but felt strong so she kicked in in over the second half of the course. I think she was top 3 in her age group (under 20) so we will have to go back for the awards. We will see.

Griz is still out there as I write this. I am going to get cleaned up and then go back.

More on the race later.

We spent time with Griz yesterday and again after his race this afternoon. I will let him post his results.

Due to my daughter's great result we kind of thought she might have gotten an age group award. Sure enough, when we checked we discovered she was first in her under 20 age group! She won $100 and a nice Adidas bag. Not bad for just one HM!!

Ha! Someone else asked me that too! No, I was wearing a blue shirt. I guess there was someone else in an orange one that looked a lot like me.

She is quite the athlete! It was fun meeting her and getting to talk a bit about running. She has a great career ahead of her... here is hoping she makes that university team!

Incidentally Tigger, there was someone in the marathon who looked like you as well. I wondered what you were doing running the full!

Nicely done! You ran smart and the plan worked for you.

How exciting for your daughter to debut that way, too.

Someone who looked like you was splattered all over the road about 3 miles from the finish. Someone who looked like me was seen dashing off ahead.

I think it's an alternate universe.

...or Vangoofy.

How about a little fuller report on your daughter and her reception back home. You didn't want to write it in Grizz's report. Do it here.

Ahhh yesss! I remember it well! Laying on the pavement watching a pair of shoes tear off towards the finish!

I don't have much to add on my daughter. Her mother went overboard and told all her friends that Jen finished FIRST! She conveniently forgot to mention "in her age group." Not sure why, but maybe something to do with pride.

Jen says she feels good already. Must be nice to be young! I am still crippled up in the quads, but they are starting to feel better.
