Enjoy the run, Rip! First time running outside in 3 weeks? That's hard for me to imagine . . It takes floods, or 90+F heat, or travel to make me run indoors.

5 miles nice and easy. 25F, no wind, partly cloudy skies. Snow storm expected tonight, we'll have 6 inches by morning.

I had an internal debate today about my workout.

Brain: "Hey guys, it's a nice day and we feel good. Let's open up and blow out the pipes!"

Voices from inside the sweatsuit: "No. Don't do it. Some of us aren't recovered from the hard run two days ago."

Brain: "Oh, come on. Wind in our hair, sun in our face, telephone poles whizzing by, glory days again!"

Hamstring: "We're still tight from 2 days ago. If you open up too much you'll blow more than your pipes!"

Buttocks: "We've got a big muscle knot. You could end up with a real, literal pain in your butt."

Throat: I'm still scratchy. You may think you're still 18 years old, but the rest of us haven't been 18 for more than 40 years."

Brain: "Don't be such wimps. Give it a try."

Throat: "Not a chance. Go home. Now."

Brain: "But we're wasting a beautiful day."

Buttocks: "Shut up and navigate."

Brain: "Grumble, grumble, turn left at the corner, grumble, not fair, grumble, no fun."

Hamstring: "You're the dumbest part among us."
