(For the previous thread, see above.)

We dropped the bike off at the local bike shop to be packed for us. Fortunately, the post office is only half a block from the bike shop. I paid $38 for the packing and then schlepped the box to the post office, my 3 year old holding on to my purse in the parking lot and across the street. The post office hauled it onto their scale, measured it, and said it was too big to mail. So schlepped it back to my car and crammed it in above the seats.

I just sent the young woman a message that said it is too big to mail, and I don't have the time or ability to take it out to fed-ex. I told her that it would be great if someone else she knows in Nashville could come and get it.

She sent back a sorry and said she's going to get in touch with someone who is supposed to be driving to where she is, and might be able to take the bike with them.

I want to scream. I was really trying to avoid sharing my negativity with her. There's not point in both of us feeling yucky about it. But I can't take it anymore.

I even thought about buying the bike from her. It fits me and I don't have one. Buts she's asking more than I think the bike is worth.

The has to be a limit to your patience.

Whether she is doing this on purpose, or accidentally, it is taking advantage of your good nature.

Now, you've invested your time and also $38.

Leave the bike, packed up, in your garage (if you have one). If, after 1 year, she doesn't make arrangements, tell her you're keeping it. Free of charge. Or, better yet, tell her that you're going to get a storage locker for it, and she can pay the fee for that.

E-mail her and give her a definite deadline (Whatever will keep your blood from boiling! - for me max it would be a month. ) .. then advise her after that it will be yours to do with as you wish. You have made an effort, spent your time and your cash. You have stored it for her when it was really her her respobsibility to take it home with her when she first did the ride...Reality is a b-tch and you need to be real with her. Hope you can get some closure on this matter soon!

Jebba, although I really feel your frustration at this ordeal. I am looking forward to continued installments of The Bicycle Saga.

Similar thing happened to me a number of years ago, roommates boyfriens bike, roommate moved to a new town, boyfriend never came to pick it up, I moved to town very close to roommate, she didn't want it, as she and boyfriend had parted ways so finally left it at the local soup kitchen.

Muddy is wise, there is no reason that Fed Ex shouldn't come to your house to pick it up. Though the parts idea is pretty funny.

Fedex will pick up but not for regular ground shipping. Only for overnight and other expensive shipping options.

So there's some dude who is supposed to be driving to Austin on Friday, and will supposedly call me to pick up the bike on Thursday. If she wants to wait until June, I have family coming from Austin and then driving back.

Make sure you get your $38. Also, waiting for June means YOU will be transporting, which is insane.

Keep $76 in bike parts until you are reimbursed your $38. This is what they call a "holdback" in the construction industry (double the value of the defficiency in order to ensure tha you get paid).
