Despite a frigid and snowy morning, made it into the work gym a few minutes late for spin class. Finished with a bunch of core exercises! What a great start to the day.

Good morning Heme (nice picture btw) and Peter (great run so fast after a marathon)

Great weather for running today, 35F and no snow on the street. 5 miles total (1.5 slow, 3.5 miles at a 10k effort. It felt steady, but not hard) I was aiming at mile reps, but my asthma is not behaving these days. I am very pleased with the effort today. It felt just right.

Last night we visited the gym again. 2 miles of slow running for me and then some upper and lower XT. DH ran not one mile, but 1.25 yeahhhh plus weights.

eta: rip, cause of death is still unknown, but my theory is that polar bear committed suicide. that would explain the note scratched in broken english on the floor of his pen. "can't stand too-sun... much heat too much." temps may hit 80f again here today... i'm f*cking tired of summer already...

I got to do a little more than planned today. I ride the bus to work from a small town to the state capital's downtown district. Unfortunately there are only two buses "in" in the morning (7:05 and 7:35) and two in the evening (4:00 and 5:00). I'm pretty much SOL if I miss the 2nd bus, so I always try for the early bus in the AM. Today, since there was a bit of snow on the ground, I think a few people that take the 7:30 took the 7:00; I had extra running stuff to pack this morning so I set my sights on the 7:30. Well, since he had fewer people to pick up, instead of hitting my stop at 7:35, he must have been a couple of minutes early - just early enough for me to miss it, anyway. So in addition to my 1/2 mile walk to the bus stop, I walked another 3.5 miles to the next route. Fortunately I had on plenty of warm clothing. I arrived at that bus stop about 20 seconds after I saw the bus driving away, and I think I would have been waiting another 1/2 hour for the next one. So I continued on another 3/4 of a mile to the next stop, just outside a Dunkin Donuts. I was so PO'd when the driver drove right past the stop since I was waiting inside the shop, trying to get warm after walking 5 miles in 10 degree F blowing snow @$%^&* weather. I ran after him and he eventually stopped for me. Grrr. So on the bright side, I got in an additional 5 mile walk in heavy boots this morning, along with my 4.5 mile easy run this afternoon at lunch.

Good to see you around here again more often, Peter.

I had a 4-mile fartlek scheduled for today but that didn't satisfy my need for a good time trial. I often run better in training than in races but not necessarily the same distance. I sent Brooke an e-mail asking for her blessing and hadn't gotten a reply by lunchtime, so went out anyway and ran on the river trail where Paul & I do our long runs sometimes and I've raced there once. I nailed it with a 24:49! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/59715491

That's an unofficial 20-second PR!!! During the last mile, my brain said, "This hurts. Stop or at least slow down." My heart said, "This is nothing compared to what Ben and his family are going through so shut up, brain."

Lots of runners here nailing their workouts today.

Like all of you, my thoughts are with Ben and family today. I hope his surgery is going well.

I had a hill workout on my agenda today. We were supposed to be in rain and more rain all day long, so I was prepared to hit the TM at the gym and simulate a hill run if I had to. But it's been dry all day. go figure. fine by me though as I'd rather run outside any day.

Ran a 1.5 mi warm up, then did 3x1min short hill repeats with slow jogs down. Then I ran another 2.8 miles to make it 5 miles in total. 9.53, 9.22, 9.55, 8.55, 9.31.

tonight we have DS's Christmas program at school. Those are always such fun to watch.

I mistyped...Thunder Road marathon was Saturday...I PR the course by 12 minutes over last year's time. I was walking slowly right after finishing but I felt perfectly normal the next day and not even muscle soreness...go figure.

I'd better recover quickly as I've got Charleston, SC coming up on January 15th...

OPIE...congrats on your PR!

Nice workout McSolar!! Does that suggest sub 3?

I kind of buried myself yesterday on my run so the sleep didn't go as well as normal and then I got a wakeup call an hour earlier than I wanted. By the time I got to Anytime Fitness about 8 pm, I was ready for a nap. The plan was to get at least 36 minutes in but once I got going I felt okay so I kept the effort reasonable and did 5 miles in one hour. 3,190 ft of elevation gain running at 12% incline. (last 2 minutes at 15% incline)

Wow, Rip, that's one helluva workout.

I went to the gym at lunch today and did 3.72 miles on the elliptical (30 minutes) and a half mile walk on the indoor track. Then after taking DS1 to class after work, I headed home and cranked out 4 miles on the treadmill. To keep things somewhat interesting, I fiddled with the incline, but only in increments of .5%... nothing like Rip did! I still haven't even tried walking on mine at 12%. I just bounced around between 1 and 2% by 1/2% increments. No biggie.
