Hoping DS#1 is okay when he wakes up. He developed something of a nasty rash/hives yesterday all over. Not sure what caused it, but I hope he is much better today.

Greetings, all.

RIL: Eep. hope your little one has a better day today.

Not fun: My AC unit at the house is doing its annual-freeze-up crap, I think. The temps inside were around 80F most of the day yesterday. Ugh. I've put a call into the service company. This is a (as of next month) 5 year old unit, and I've had freezing / coolant leaking issues every summer since. Not a happy camper. I'll give these guys one more try. Next year, I'll be going with another company, as I feel like band-aids are just being applied to the bigger problem. (Unless the problem this time is related to the recent storm, as the AC unit is in the area that took the most damage.

Sorta fun: You guys remember the veggie truck that comes every so often at work during the summer, yes? Apparently they're expecting a huge crop this year, and have given each employee CANNING supplies.

Ok. so I was going to complain how the Sewer Sucker machine and the Street cleaner machine both came by this morning between 7 am and 9 am, because they woke me up on this holiday monday when I get to sleep in without being bugged by work or kids or whatever but then I thought what a lucky f ck am I? I'm sleeping in!!! And I live in a great city and it's nice enough outside that I can sleep with my window open so that I can hear the lovely sewer sucking machine do its work. How lucky am I?

AIL!! Dude I'm super jealous!! SUPER JEALOUS!!! I'm thinking of quick making up some apple jelly and pomagranite jelly before I have to start canning the strawberry jelly!

If you don't have it already get the Ball Blue Canning book! there are a TON of recipes in there.

I'm kind of tired of Monday already but I brought in a vase of Daffy's for my desk and it's making today much brighter!

Morning all! DS started at the daycare center this morning. When we walked in it was already time to get ready to go swimming. He was so stinking excited. Hope he has a good first day there. It's the same place DD went from age 3-5, and he even has one of the same teachers she had. Easy transition for mom!

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend. It was busier than I wanted for us, but mostly fun stuff, so I won't complain.

ETA: I had a jar of homemade apple butter waiting for me on my desk this morning. I sent something I made home with a coworker and his wife insisted it was bad luck to return a dish empty. No wonder my luck is so hit and miss, I have returned and received many an empty dish in my life!

Good morning! I had a good weekend with friends and family. Nick and I met up in Toledo for Thai food and pool on Saturday. Then on Sunday, it was all family. We were missing some folks and even then, we had 30 people there.

This week is busy for me. Fri-Sat-Sun is when my chorus is having their spring concert, so I am tied up with performances those days plus tech rehearsal Weds and dress rehearsal Thurs. Add my normal volunteering tomorrow, and tonight is my only free night until next week. I expect to be exhausted by Sunday night.

Ailarie- I helped my mom make strawberry jam last summer and documented the process through photos that I posted on FB. She added some extra tips in the comments both about jamming but also about other kinds of canning.

Morning, everyone. Big meeting in less than an hour. I thought I was going to get to bed early last night when I realized that I saved over the lecture I need to give at 1:00. Thankfully it was backed up on the server at the university so it only took about 20 minutes this morning to get it all sorted out. Still, I texted a friend who used to work at the university to see if he could help me figure out what to do, but he didn't respond to my text right away. I chatted with another friend on Facebook and decided to call it a night and deal with it this morning. Then, the first friend called at midnight because he was worried that there was something totally wrong. Uh, no. I was just asleep. Add that to a late start at the gym this morning because the door was locked, and it's already been an adventurous day. I'm probably going to stay at the office pretty late tonight trying to get ahead with a bunch of stuff.

Love to you all!

Winter, I'm just jealous you have a holiday!

(Also, exDH used to LOVE when the sweeper truck would come--he's a neat freak-- and everytime he'd hear it, he'd start chanting "Sweep Truck! Sweep Truck!")

Easter was nice yesterday, and my father txted me last night to thank my sis and me for bringing all the food, cleaning up, and letting him run around the back yard with the kids and relax. My poor dad...it's been really hard on him with my mom lately and going to get harder. :(

I am researching someone who is a managing director in an international investment firm. On their website they have bios for EVERY SINGLE PERSON who works there, including the mail clerks. Interesting.

HAH! You guys are awfully positive, thinking that I'm actually going to have any level of success with canning. I haven't the first clue how/what/where/when to do this. I mean, I certainly appreciate the gift, but they might as well have given me a textbook written in German. I have NO CLUE.

But, I'll learn. I'll reread bard's Strawberry Jam post, and Wippy's suggestion of the Ball Blue Canning book. Hopefully I don't blow up the kitchen with the pressure cooker in all of this! :)

Hi all - spent some time with the family last night, but it was pretty low-key. As usual, my dad cooked a lot of food.

Ailarie - have fun with the canning project!

Nice that you get to sleep in, Winter. Seems like Canadian Holidays are a lot like the federal vs. state south of the border - some are universal, others depend on the province.

We were going to spend a belated Earth Day at work with a picnic at a plaza nearby (it was supposed to be on Thursday but a special meeting and other work considerations postponed it.) Looks like the rain has pretty much spoiled that notion though - bleh!

Meeting done. I cried, of course. But I got the information I needed. Thankfully this will all be over soon.

I made fresh salsa last summer, and got lots of compliments on it. I'll have to do that again this summer.

I have a desire to make my own cheese, but hard cheeses are more complicated than soft, so I'm going to wait a while and see if I'm still interested come winter. I love making my own bread, so it would be great to make my own cheese to go with it. Throw in some homemade wine, and I'll be all set!
