I've not done anything except marathons in the past year so I didn't know what to expect. I did PR in a big way. Ran about 46:10 (7:27/mile), beating my old time, 49:06, which was at the same race.

Splits:
Mile 1 6:54
Mile 2 7:42
Mile 3.1 8:16
Mile 4 6:46 (repeat of mile 1, basically)
Mile 5 7.26 (repeat of mile 2, basically)
Mile 6.2 9.14 (repeat of mile 3.1, basically)

The course was basically an out-and-back, and then repeat. No one passed me after the first half and I was picking off a good amount of runners. I could feel them trying to stick with me. I definitely was the fastest 200+ pounder out there. But no hardware. Third place in my age division was 42-something.

I left everything out there. I pushed it from the beginning and didn't stop. Had to remind myself a couple times that downhills weren't for resting. And I nearly puked at the end, but just a dry heave. I was ready to mail in the finish because I started my kick way, way early. I was kinda cruisin' with about .1 mile to go and decided I had to give it every last bit I had.

That race was pretty much painful from the get-go. I was mouth-breathing the entire time, piehole suckin' in air. I pushed it on the uphills cuz I didn't want to lose any time on them. And it was sunny and hot. Someone described the course as hilly and tough, but I don't think it's that bad.

Nice little race. They gave away door prizes at the end. A buddy of mine won a Runner ID gift certificate and gave it to me. And I kept going back to the table to get these smiley-face cookies with white frosting that were really good. When we were about to leave, I went back for one more and the lady gave me the entire container!
