April 5? Well, that's almost a whole week later than this year. It's bound to be hot. Train in the heat as much as you can people! I know it's not really possible, but I hope it isn't too hot that day.

I'm marking my calendar.

IEH4M: There is no reason in the world to be apologetic about a fifty. So far I think that is my favorite distance.

Does anyone know how long it will take for the 100 to fill? I'm thinking about it, but would kind of like to get my first 100 out of the way at the end of Oct before I sign up.

IEatHills -- you must be on the opposite side of the state from me, based on your name.

Tks for the encouragement, Hippo. I've been reading a lot about ultras and 50 still seem gigantic to me!

sistergolden - I am in North Raleigh and couldn't find a single flat spot since I moved here last December. LOL... Even the experienced guys from Raliegh Running Outfitters could not think of one. Let's say my hips are paying the price (surprisingly not my knees), but it just doesn't stop me. I'm stubborn. Schedule and child care issues don't allow me to drive away from my neighborhood, but I have no trail experience, so I better get my butt in gear to train in Umstead a couple of times a week at least.

IEatHills -- I'm a little west of the Outer Banks in the ******* swamp (help!). Actually Raleigh is on my short list of places to relocate. Anyway, our only hills here are highway overpasses. Umstead is a very trail-newbie friendly trail. It's basically a smooth packed dirt road.

it filled up by early november last year i believe, or late october. races fill up faster each year because of people being paranoid of it selling out

yeah Hippo!!!! no matter what happens at your other race you should come out to Umstead.
