Hey, you guys! Wake up! The tryptophan won't kick in until after kickoff!

Late post for last night's aerobic BigDinnerPrep: (bear in mind that I'm serving dinner to these Canucks on Saturday, so I'm a few days behind the Murkins who actually live in the US.)

Caramelized onions for the gratin I'll assemble tomorrow
Herbed butter
Cranberry sauce with vanilla and Grand Marnier
Boiled up the brine for the turkey and put it (the brine) outside to cool.

It was 32F on my way down the hill this morning, but mercifully dry and calm. The wind ripped tears from my eyes nonetheless. Will go running at lunchtime and enjoy the sunshine.

Just woke up. Rowing, gym, walk, and PT on tap.

Cold, clear, crisp. Just the way I like it. (Hey ... where'd that La T run off to?)

Hey all,

Just back from the 5k Turkey Trot with CassDad, CassSon#2, and FlyingFinn. Temps in the low 40s, breezy, light rain -- pretty good conditions for a run. I'm months away from being ready to race, so today I served as pace-turkey for CassSon, whose goal was 7:45 pace. We hit the first mile in 7:40, but he was struggling a bit by then, so we backed off to about 8:15 pace the rest of the way and finished together in 25:04--about a 3-minute PR for him, and a few seconds ahead of FF, who is making a splendid recovery from her ITBS problems. CassDad, age 72, is coming off an injury of his own but turned in a credible 32-something. Great to catch up with FF again; all in all a terrific morning.

Looking forward to implementing Phase 2 of the 5k-to-Couch program the rest of the day.

Good running, eating, and sleeping to all.

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to all. Sounds like a fun morning, Dave. Congrats to your son on his PR and to DadinAA too. Good to hear FF is running well too.

We are just about ready to head to my brother's house where I will fix the meal because his wife has to work (nurse). We're doing dinner over there because my house isn't very 2yr old proof any more. My eldest son will be home from Missoula which will be great as I haven't seen him in several months since he moved. Should be a fun day watching football since my son's team is playing my brother's team (Lions vs Packers). Those two will whoop it up pretty good.

Chose to sleep in instead of run today. I was too warm and snuggly to get up in the dark 2 degree temps. Will shoot for tomorrow or maybe later today after the dinner settles.

I'm kinda scared to ask this, but what's a Murkinuk? I'm vaguely familiar with the word murkin, but I think I'm losing something in translation....at least I hope so!

Off to the gym to go take a hike on the TrekMill!

Do you realize 4% of Americans believe we celebrate Thanksgiving to commemorate "the defeat of the Canadians"?

Happy Thanksgiving, all. I was a cautious turkey this morning and ran a fun 5K Trot. It wasn’t as fast as last year but I made it through with absolutely no pains during or after, and that’s very good. Both drumsticks feel great now, in fact. SS, I couldn’t quite execute the $100 form, but I did avoid the camber and ran down the line most of the time. My effort felt somewhere between HM and 5K; I didn’t push it hard until about the last ¾ mile. It was great to see CassadAAmius again, with Son and Dad. Now it’s time to work out the arms and knead some bread!

We don't celebrate thanksgiving because we beat the Canadians?

I don't know what Murkin means or Murkinuk?

Happy thanksgiving to my kickster friends. Ran a 4.1 mile turkey chase this morning and first thought was to come tell ya'll. Temps in low 50's but the cold north wind was blowin about that hard too. 24:18 which is a 5:49 avg pace. 1st o.a. master and beat some I've never beaten before. No o.a. results posted yet but should be in top 10-15. My 5K time in this race was faster than my pr of couple weeks ago. Wohoo!

Got up leisurely.
Warmed up with a coupla pieces of cushaw pie for breakfast

Experimenting with a "wrist-cam" for tomorrow's race.
Two big rubber bands work fine, but I'll try to remember extras.

Went out for my run to the VCT head at Watauga to avoid stressing the foot on my regular trail to the Creeper.
Walked 3/4, Did two slow warm up miles toward town and stretched.
Then headed back with [email protected] and [email protected] with 400m recoveries and an 800m cooldown. 4.5 total
Since the interval section was downgrade it felt really good. I paid close attention to beathing and concluded I don't really do it enough at faster tempos -gotta work on that.
Stretched and went home.

X-raked leaves with the kids and got the Backyard Act 2 done.
They're coming down now.
It's starting to rain.
Blessings on you and yours.
Murkinuck was coined on the spot by the lovely Aija this morning to reflect my dual citizenship:

'Murkin (as in, "I'm a Murkin"; and Canuck

Happy T-day y'all. Good runs and neat that Dave and FF met up, even neater that everyone is healthy

Biked 22.46 miles in 60, yes 60 degree weather! No gloves, no jacket, no ear warmers, that was nice. 13.5 avg pace 143 avg HR and Turkey is in da oven.
Hi Masters of the Kickunners!

Daave, I loved reading about your multi-generational 5K with the Finn!
Mustang Sally, hope the turkey is doing fine in the brine.

All y'all, what a great day is today!

Our younger son ran a Turkey Trot with us today (Lilmissrosie stayed the night at Granny's because someone egged Granny's front door and she didn't want to be alone) (Our middle child hurt his back playing football yesterday (so he says, he was probably worried he would get beat by his younger brother)

ANYWAY.
76% humidity

I had a significant number of runners in front of me and a large number behind me for the first two and a half miles... a TON of people passed me in the last half... maybe I went out too fast? ha ha!

What a great turnout for this first time event! They expected about 200 and had 400 participants! More folks wanted to run but, they ran out of numbers!

A wonderful day, indeed!

Peace

Thanks, Tamster, for resting with me today. These racers were making me a little jealous. And Labduck's off to the gym on a holiday? Jees, I thought I was itching to keep my conditioning up.

I'm thankful today for the month of December, which will hopefully allow me to build my base back up. I've tentatively decided not to run again until Monday. I don't think I'll hit 2,000 miles for the year, but big deal. 1,600+ miles so far.

Downstairs to make the gravy. Southern style, cream (but not with the big ole chunks of sausage).

I've never added cream to gravy before, but DH and I were watching a thanksgiving special on the foodnetwork the other day and they made it with some cream, so we're trying that this year. This is also the first year we have had the turkey soaking in brine overnight (another idea from that show), so we'll see how that turns out. supposed to make it super juicy/tender.

That's alot of mileage Opie! Hopefully December will be a good month to get back into the routine and kick off 2008 in good health! My goal this year was to hit 800. Last year I only did around mid 300's for the year - so it's a big increase over last year, but I realize it's still not much by most runners standards. But I'm already pretty close to 800, so I will be able to surpass that.
