Has anyone heard of, or run, the NYC tunnel to towers 5K?

I only just found out about it -- it was in Sept and was to honor the fallen firefighters from 9/11. I DEFINATELY want to run this next year, because I lost my cousin Christopher Pickford (http://www.september11victims.com/se...fo.asp?ID=2172) in the attack. He was a firefighter from engine company 201 and died in the second tower.

I'd appreciate any info on this race if you know something about it....

Thanks,
I only know what I read about it in this month's issue of RW. Sounds like it was a VERY moving race.I recall reading comments from runners that they teared up as the passed signs people were holding of those that were lost. I think this would be a wonderful and emotionally charged race to be in.

Yes, that's where I read about it too, which is strange since I live in the metro NY area but had never heard about it before. Plus, having a family member firefighter being murdered there ~ you'd think somehow I'd be in the loop. Oh well, I guess I can't know everything, even if I am a librarian.

In any case, I emailed my brother and he and I are planning to run this next year. It'll be held on my mom's birthday and I wouldn't be surprised if she walks the course too. She competes in senior walking events and wins a whole lotta medals!

I am not a boomer, so I apologize in advance for butting in to your forum. I tend to skim some of your threads every now and then. In doing so I saw this one. One of the members of the 30's actually ran this last Sept. Her race report is here in case any of you wanted to check it out. It does seem like a wonderful event to be a part of and maybe one day I will be able to say I ran in it too.
