I was going to run this am, but my alarm never went off. Darn. Oh well, I have a track workout tonight and will try to sneak in a couple extra miles warm up and cool down.

Good news - I finally did my arm workout AND pilates last night. Oy vey do I need to start doing my leg pilates again regularly. It was hard and my legs felt TIGHT. It used to be a no-brainer and I need to get back to that point. I know it will greatly improve my running, so I'm not sure why I am such a slacker about it.....

morning

good track work out scheduled for tonight. 2 x 2 mile at tempo followed by 3 miles at GRP. Lower leg is still giving me problems. It is weird. I think it is a calf strain but it feels lower and is pulling on the achilles and heels area too. boo.

I am also an incredible slacker when it comes to... well... any kind of fitness other than running. I know I should lift more and do more core stuff, but I just never seem to get around to it.

Last night I did a miserable tempo run. Miserable because it was too darn hot. I went as fast as I could for 6 miles, and it wasn't very fast. Oh well. Anyway, it's supposed to be even hotter today, so I got up early and did my easy run on the TM. I guess it ended up as a Pi run: 3.14 miles. So I can say I ran Pi miles?

I checked the extended forecast for my 5k on Saturday. This is the one at the airport (near Frankie's uncle's house, I think). If it's hot and sunny, it can be brutal on the tarmac. It's supposed to be sunny, but thankfully not too hot. So hopefully it won't be too unpleasant...

I still cannot do anything weight bearing, but I at least did a little upper body strength workout.

Hey peeps,

Thanks for the thoughts and vibes, I think they are working. . Surgery seems to have gone well. The peroneal tendon was somewhat worse than he expected and the Achilles was as planned. The drugs are working well,so not too much pain or discomfort. I'm camped out in my recliner so that I don't roll around when I sleep. Porter stayed with me downstairs all night and never went up to his bed, though he did try to get me up to go up around 2 am and was pretty confused about why i'd stay down here. Such a loyal friend!

DW is keeping me on schedule for meds. I woke up very early and very alert despite staying up late to watch Inception on the DVR. Probably a side effect of the drugs.

I need to follow T's lead and do some upper body strength stuff today.

Duck, glad the procedure went well...your wheel is in very capable hands!

Got some miles in over the weekend in Cincy: very hot, humid, hilly miles. Yesterday was an off day due to massive t-storms in the morning and being busy in the afternoon (details on that in today's fun thread). Got out for 6 miles in the soup this morning: temp in the 70s and dewpoint was 66. Saw a friend, who coaches cross country at one of the high schools, in the park with about 20 of his kids this morning.

Hi all - first off, healing vibes to you Duck and any other 30s peeps who are ailing

I'm sort of limbo right now (as opposed to doing the limbo) - as long as my hip (or pinched nerve therein) is bothering me, I'm sort of doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that without much focus. Had a good ART session yesterday but it's still not yet the full-on super bendy, torture-like stuff until I get a couple more weeks of recovery under my belt

My CMT is talking about opening up the hip area which is being problematic - maybe I knew it already without really realizing it, but yeah, my right hip internal rotation is hardly optimal based on a simple exercise I was testing out yesterday.

Doing a little bit of this and that for a workout after work today - I'll figure it out later, though.

Yay Duck! And healing vibes to Moonie and everyone else who needs 'em.

Yeah, last weekend was brutal. And we midwesterners are going to get hammered with the heat and humidity again this weekend. I checked today and Fri-Mon it will be in the 90s and "feels like" 103-108. Ooof. Of course the lows are going to be in the soupy 70s. If there is any way I can pull it off, I am going to try to do my 18 miler on Thursday am before that soup rolls in.

Oh, and speaking of training, for those of you that jump on the trainers thread in mainstream racing, we have a new fall thread going. List your goals and jump in if you so desire: http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/thread/74501/fall-trainers-thread#post_2006509

As for me, I had a great track workout tonight. I actually didn't feel like I was going to die. But that was probably b/c it was only 70 degrees and the intervals were much shorter. But I have to have some optimism that my fitness is slowly improving.

Brag of the day/week: DS lost his cookies after the track workout tonight. Literally. That is hard core. Alright, alright, I know I shouldn't be amused by that. Poor kiddo was just spent after basketball camp, the park, an afternoon swimming and then track. Did the poor guy in. But he was supah fast.... :) And fortunately he wasn't upset about it.
