Wet shoes that is if I actually went out for a run. But I was too tired and slept in. Rainy and cold here. At least it is not snowing yet.

Fun: Check out James' big catch. Not quite a TD, but close!

Good morning. Nice catch! And that lefty QB has a good arm...

I did an easy 3 last night, and I'll probably do something similar tonight. In the dark, bleh.

Got a flu shot last night, and my arm is a little sore today. Well, I guess that's normal...

Morning all,

I'm back home now. We got landed a little before 7 last night and made it over to our friend's house to pick up the kiddos. It was a great trip to New York. DW had a great time and meeting up with everyone was a blast. Maria, and Missy were our gracious NYC hosts. Colleen and Dave were super fun to hang out with too, and we did a bit of a mashup kind of thing with my other friends from Bham along with the PacerChris family too. Good times.

Litch's statement there pretty much describes my race too. I was 1:36 and change for the first half...I guess that puts my 2nd half at about 2:01.

I remember everyone's posts on here about a race this big being too crowded. I was optimistic that that wouldn't be the case near the front, but I was dead wrong. I started in the 7th corral at Boston and in that scenario, even in the crowd, after a couple of miles, you could pretty much go whatever pace you wanted and after 10 miles, there were open road to work with.

Micah and I managed to work our way up to very near the front of the Blue Wave start...that's the start with the elite men. We could see the stage where Mary introduced the men and the cannon was just to our right. It probably didn't take us more than 2 mins to get over the line after the gun went off. The start was awesome.

We were immediately boxed in though. We wanted 7:20 - 7:30 for the first mile, but we got 8:17. We flew down the other side of the bridge in 6:56. I'll save you all the details for now (in case I write some kind of race report). But what then proceeded to happen was full contact marathon racing for 10 miles. I was hellbent on making our splits at 7:10 but on that course with all those people and the starting and stopping and the bobbing and weaving, it just shredded me to pieces. By 11 I was toast. I backed off and cruised over the Queensboro bridge and got myself hyped up about seeing DW, Maria, Missy and Dave. At that point, my leg were cramping and I was trying to cruise at 8:20 pace. My stomach was big time upset too. Right after mile 18, I dove into a porta john, but it was a false alarm. From there it was a 9:00+ mpm pace death march to the finish.

And then in NYCM tradition (that I didn't know about) after the finish, we had to walk to Westchester to pick up our bags. :)

My legs are totally shot today, quads ripped to pieces. I was cramping everytime I straightened my legs at dinner that night. But I got up to go to the Today show with DW and that was fun. She was all over the place meeting Ann and Al. She got on TV too. :)

Greetings, all

RIL Sweet catch! I never really watched kid-sports much, but was kind of surprised that they actually tackled at Jake's age! Oof!

Tim - Full contact Marathoning? yeech!

I ran 2M on the tm last night to test out the ankle. No pain. No stability issues. What's weird is the OTHER side of the same food felt odd. Stressed maybe a tad? Then again, it's likely been working overtime to keep me upright while the injured side of the foot healed, so perhaps that's not an unexpected feeling. The foot feels a little tired today, but it's such a small deal that I wouldn't notice if I wasn't comparing one foot to the other. I hope that's normal. I'll try another 2-3 tonight. I've lost so much cardio, it's downright scary, so if the ankle is game, I'm going to try what I can!

Brandy was sick, raced and almost got sick, went home and whined about feeling sick ("is it hot in here?" "why it is soo cold?")

Tim - that sounds dreadful. Chicago was too much for me, I can't even imagine NYC

So I was STOOPID last night. I went over to the gym and got dressed for a run. I ended up going for 6 miles at a little faster than I should be (910-940). I finished and went inside, changed, stretched out and then did a 60 min boot camp where I was KILLED. Note anything missing there? Yeah, I should have had something to eat because I hit the wall real early in the workout and was shaking/almost throwing up on the way home. Blah.

So, re: boot camp, what kind of category of exercise would you put this in? We do a ton of lunges, body weight stuff, tri-sets with lots of push ups, double types of moves and some cardioish type of stuff (mt climbers, etc). I am logging my stuff and don't know what to classify it as. Cathestics?

Morning, friends. Still rainy and dreary here, which makes it very difficult for me to stay awake and productive. Seeing as I don't have a lecture yet for 12:30, I at least have that for motivation. I'm going to stitch this evening if it kills me.

Sorry to hear the race wasn't what you wanted, Tim. Still waiting to hear Colleen's report!

I think I have a plan to start getting back on the exercise train. I'll let you know tomorrow if it works.

"full contact marathoning" - nice one Timr. Hope you recover quickly...what's next on the agenda for you? Oh, would love to get your evaluation of the hanson's plan you used.

Brandy - that or bodyweight exercises

Craney - I think I would have shot back at the person that running at night is no more irresponsible than the person who unduly burdens our health care system by being obese, or smoking.

Today marks one week down with the cast, 3 to go. Yesterday was a rough day: I was on my feet way more than I should have been and as a result had some swelling in my calf/lower leg. Which made my cast a big snug feeling, which was uncomfortable in that claustrophobic sort of way...wasn't painful, just put me on edge. So I slept on the couch last night (easiest way to keep it elevated) and it's much better this morning. I'm halfway through this process...I can make it, I can make it, I can make it.

good to see timr and mrs. timr home safely.

much thanks to maria for organizing a splendid weekend!

i think colleen and dh left NYC yesterday and had quite a bit of traveling to do to get home so i'm sure we'll hear from her soon.

i maintain that mega marathons should be run purely for fun. its just too hard to predict whether or not you'll be able to run the pace you want/need to unless you are the elite/subelite category (had a friend hit a PR at 2:27 so, at that kind of level). plus, i think the majority of runners in mega marathons are mid to back of the pack runners - so, they aren't really in a hurry to get anywhere. not that one shouldn't consider running mega marathons - i LOVE the vibe and excitement of one and honestly, its the best tour you'll get of NYC :) but, how big is too big? theres now talk of running the NYCM TWO DAYS in a row, so, sat and sunday. thats insane, IMHO.

personally, i'd love to run in a few more mega marathons. since i have done NYC, chicago, and boston, i'd love to finish the "majors" and run in london and berlin and i also want to run MCM one day, too. then, for races i truly want to race and attempt a PR, i'll stick to those the size of grand rapids, hartfort, mowhawk hudson etc

CUTE puppy pics!!!!!!!!!!! bella and i spent the morning at the park with an airedale puppy. i was on the ground the entire time, letting her climb all over me!

great catch, james!

hang in there, kp.

feeling better, moe?

i have the day off work, and i hemmed and hawed about sending AK to daycare (we have to pay for it regardless) but am glad i did. i'm sipping my coffee peacefully and will get some errands done including a pedi and back massage before picking her up just after lunch. i love that kid to pieces but momma needs her down time, too.

a new running store is opening in town and i'm super excited!!

not as exciting, the ILs just booked a trip to come out to visit the day after my parents leave. ugh. i'm looking forward to entertaining my parents but will need a break after.. maybe i'll sign up to work extra that week. lol.

Morning all. We got back from Vegas last night, and I have to turn around and leave for a conference this afternoon. I did not sleep enough during the trip or last night (typical time zone wackiness). Hopefully I'll get some decent sleep on this trip and get totally reset.

QOD:

short term - lunch meeting at a Thai restaurant today.

long term - need to get some forward looking mojo. Right now, two trips I have scheduled for next year is all that comes to mind. I like to travel, but I feel like that's kind of a lame answer!

Morning peeps.

I am FINALLY feeling better...thank you ZPAC. Doc called in a Rx for antibiotics and a stronger steroid inhaler for me (without seeing me...which frankly I appreciate.) Took the first double dose yesterday, and about an hour later I was completely ready for a nap, slept for maybe 90 mins and woke up feeling MUCH better. Had an interrupted night's sleep (between coughing and Penny needing to go out at 4am), but besides wishing for another nap, I feel much more like myself today. I know doctors are reluctant to prescribe antibiotx, but I'm glad I didn't have to wait another week before my doc gave them to me.

QOD: short term: I'm very happy that i'm feeling better because I have tix tonight for this tonight and I wouldn't want to miss it. (I won't be drinking but I'm looking forward to the food, because nothing has been appealing to me for a week. I finally have an appetite again...not totally back but something.)

Long term: no idea. I feel a bit like I'm on autopilot right now.

We both already had vacations approved for the week between Christmas and New Year's for me to make a California visit, so with his new boss approving a start date in January, we are going to use that week to make the road trip. I love that it worked out that I can do the it with him. I had already had my flight reservation, but thankfully I'd made it on Southwest so it was very easy to change my reservation to a one-way. Whether we leave on Monday the 26th or Tuesday the 27th will depend on what the final arrangements are for sending his stuff.

QOD-

short term: getting over this stupid head cold

mid term: Moonie's Thanksgiving visit here (LOTS to be thankful for, of course) plus the end of the quarter and my concert with the Dublin Singers

long term: the cross country trip and then beyond that, moving into a bigger space. I've been in my same tiny apartment for nearly 9 years, and it's not bad overall but I'd love to have a kitchen with some actual work space, LOL!

Also, I keep forgetting the my latest nephew exists because no one sends pictures and I haven't held him. Boo! (So looking forward to holding him)

Getting back into some sort of exercise routine

"Full contact marathoning". Yup, sounds about right. That's what I remember about NYC. Missy is right, you can't set an agressive time goal for a race like NYC and expect to keep it, because even if you're feeling great, you could get stuck in a pack and be forced to move slower than you want. NYC is not the place to shoot for a PR...

Nonetheless Tim, I'm glad to hear you got back home safe. I hope you aren't too upset about the game on Saturday. Actually, I think Bama still has a decent chance at the national title game. They're third in the BCS now, which (in theory) means they only would need Oklahoma St to lose to move into the top 2. And I think a Cowboy loss to OU is likely. On the other hand, Stanford has a harder schedule remaining, so if they can run the table, they might be able to pull ahead of Bama. But on yet another hand, I thnk Stanford will lose to Oregon this weekend. I'm not the only one who thinks a rematch is somewhat likely.

All hell breaks loose if LSU loses to Arkansas the day after Thanksgiving. Assuming all the teams win the rest of their games, that would put a three-way tie at the top of the SEC West, with each team being 1-1 against each other. The West crown -- and thus the inside track to the BCS title game -- would go to the team with the highest BCS ranking. You'd have to think that LSU would deserve that (for its non-conference wins over Oregon and West Virginia), but Bama might get the nod, simply because LSU's loss would be later in the season. Obviously LSU will be favored against the Hogs, but I don't think an upset would be a complete shock -- even though nobody is talking about that possibility. It would be fascinating to see.

Yikes Amy - that seems way too soon after a vacay to be leaving again, and for work no less

Have to check out Mindi's video at home - it's blocked here at work

Maria - is that your sis here in the SF area? And would this be something related to vacation or an actual move?

Isn't that the best?! He has some really good buddies on his team and they will all play together again on the same team next year as 6th graders too. I could watch this video a million times. James LOVES football, so it was awesome to see this.

I am in kind of a funk goal wise. This isn't necessarily bad b/c cruise control for me right now is pretty darn good. But I do always like having bigger goals. I guess I want to do well next season, but I don't yet have my head in it and I am not quite over the fact that I had such a great season last season (and worked SOOOOO hard! I was running 70-80 mile weeks, changed my diet and lost 10 lbs!!) but still had freaking sucky races. So blah on parts 2 and 3 of my QOD.
