I guess I'll start this one too. Although sadly, I didn't get to Yoga last night because I had to stay at work and switch out TWO hard drives, so I don't have any fitness from yesterday to report.

Yeargh....and of course one of the teensy little screws got sacrificed to the Carpet Gods.

I have forgotten how to dress for 37 degrees and windy. Tights, short sleeve under long sleeve, hat and gloves was close, but still cold. I think my running jacket would have been too much. I'm wimpy for cold. It was also very foggy and I tripped over a small rock. I did one neighborhood lap and came home and finished the run on the TM. Of course, then I was hot. Can't win! But, at least I broke the snoozing instead of running streak and got back out there. Little miss evil tomorrow.

Amy- what about a fleece vest to go over the rest that you can unzip if you get too warm?

No running today but I now have a pedometer for a thing we are doing at work. I've been guesstimating for the past week and clearly I was underestimating. Rather than edit past entries, I'm going to add extra steps to the next few days. The more miles we accumulate as a team, the better the prizes we are eligible to win.

Way to go, Amy! I missed yet another early morning swim today. We both fell asleep on the sofa watching MNF last night and then were unable to get to sleep once we finally were trying to in the appropriate place. Then Miss Shaggerific woke me up at 4:30 to go out. After that, all bets were off. Gonna be a(nother) long day.

My spinning class last night ROCKED. Honestly, I was so happy to NOT be running* that I went a little nuts in class. We'll see if they come back again next week . (If I were them, I sure wouldn't! I was a crazy lunatic! Five short (4 minutes each) but steep hills at 80-90% max effort with less than a minute recovery in between, plus 8 speed intervals, plus one-leg drills, plus 9 minutes of rolling hills.... Ah yeah. Good times.)

* No offense to those who cannot run for whatever reason. I'm finding it difficult to go from 2-3 runs per week to 5 just like that [snaps fingers]. My one cross-training activity in which I'm allowed to actually use my legs is Spinning... so I went for it whole hog last night! Starting next Monday, I'm reclaiming my early morning outdoor boot camp class, which will count as a recovery run. Mondays are gonna get HARD next week.

Sorry you missed yoga, Ann.

Amy - I second the vest. I'm actually looking for one myself!

I too was nervous about the temp change, so this morning I wore my capri tights, longsleeve shirt and wind jacket. I had a hat and gloves in my hand, but it was warmer than I expected it to feel, so I left them behind. A mile in, the jacket was tied around my waist. It seems like you just can't win sometimes.

A lovely 4.5 this morning with my running pals. Our newest partner has turned out to be a really great addition!

I am also pleased to report that I have kept up with the P90X weights as well.

Another shout out to all of you who ran so well this weekend - you're a real inspiration!

Late late start this morning, which bugs the snot out of me. I get waaaay more done in the morning. But nature called at 1am and them my brain clicked in, and I didn't sleep for several hours. gaaaa.

Just grabbed some (clean) clothes from the laundry and am going to do some stuff. I haven't had to deal with 30s yet, so I can't help with the cold clothes thing. It's about 49 here this morning.

Nice work peeps! Your class sounds killa, Theia! In the end, they'll thank you for it though.

I am still a wee bit sore from Sunday night's yogalates. I really am enjoying it - just wish I could find a class (that fit in my schedule) more than once a week.

It was 33 degrees and pitch black when I hit the roads this morning. First time this season for busting out the tights. It was AWESOME weather though. I love running in cool (but above freezing) temps. Logged a wee bit over 6 miles.

Count me in for bad sleep. I had crazy dreams and then woke up - wide awake - and figured I'd just get up and run. Um, it was 3:00 am. So I kind of slept on and off until just before 5. Gah.

Sooooo Bob had brought up a 30's get together at one of those small-field marathons which I thought sounded like a ton of fun. Can we work on that? Please? This weekend was so fun, I just wanna do it again.

Moe, when I brought this up, I was referencing the Wyoming marathon that I did that had 124 finishers. In other words, very small marathons. I said I thought it would be fun if we all got together and went to something that small because we could basically make up 20% of the entire field.

As for where it is, I don't know of any New England marathons that are that small. I'm sure there must be some; I'm just not aware of them.

And really, don't base the location on me. If the perfect marathon is in a state I've already done, I'll suck it up and double up that state...

And for the record, the only New England state I've done so far is Vermont. I've updated my marathon map, and will work on a Race Report for MN as the day goes on...

About as local as a race can get to me. $5 entry fee, 56 finishers last year. I run some of these roads, and yes, they are hilly.

Morning Gang -

Nice work to those of you who already got out there in the cooler temps! I really want to run, but I'm forcing myself to take some time off. I feel good though - way less sore than previous marathons. I suppose that's because I'm getting used to them? I did a brisk (geez - i sound like my mom) 20 minute walk last night. Also did two slow half mile walks with the puppy yesterday. Felt great to get the legs moving. Might try some biking or walking later today.

I started peeking at race calendars yesterday. Not sure what to focus on next. It feels weird not to have a plan. MN Peeps - what are you running around here soon?

Litch- $5 for a marathon entry even on the day of the race? Wow!

That Wisconsin one sounds cool but the weekend is bad for me. The Lake Placid one, however, is possible if I can get the OK from my boss. It is the same day as our spring graduation ceremonies, which I usually have to work. It's even just close enough to road-trip it, though it would be a long day of driving. June races, though, have got to be chancy heat-wise.

Great, cool, low-pressure marathon (about: 2010)
Course: 5 Organization: 5 Fans: 3
M. S. from Wisconsin (4/26/10)
11-50 previous marathons | 1 JailBreak Marathon

The cool weather is great for a fast time. The course has some rolling parts, which help to vary your stride and speed to keep your legs fresh. Hills were never steep or long. The first two-thirds of the course runs through wind-breaking evergreen forests and the rest has some Amish farm areas. Green and beautiful with cranes calling. No spectators except hard-working, friendly folks at the stations. All miles marked with straw bales you can't miss. Only 8 rest stops, but it was 50 degrees and breezy, and most stops had energy gel, water, and sports drink. Very efficient organization, great meal, and awards were even given ahead of scheduled time. Only 36 marathoners, the little traffic and few spectators made it great to be able to focus and concentrate on the actual running of the race. No jostling or elbowing or worrying about speeding traffic - just a few horse droppings. This is not a mega-event marathon, but a great little race.

Wow, $5? Do they even provide water stops?

Legs feel mucho better today, still a little fatigued and my right hamstring is still a touch wonky - which was the one that kept threatening to seize up. And the blister is ouchie. My brain is itching to run though, yesterday was so gorgeous out I kept thinking what a great day it'd be to run. But my body was not feeling the same way. And I feel like I could run a little today except for the blister - it might be a little infected. Boo Hiss.
