Last Chance May workouts!

Well, summer has officially arrived here in TN. Mid and upper 90s all week long, probably through October. DW is going to the Dr today, last week they said they would discuss inducing this week, so I should know more about that situation today.

Taper week continues with an easy 4 miler today, then I have to finish this fence I started on yesterday, then to bed because I'm back to work tonight.

zrun- Nice job on the race, I think that the 1st humid race of the year is the hardest.

Good morning BBS.

Congrats on the race zrun. I agree, 5ks can get under your skin. Good thing they are quick to recover from so that you can go back out and try to run your splits differently. It is 5k season, afterall.

Resting up for me today. Two back-to-back tough trail runs followed by a recovery day on the roads, I need it. Plus, I have to get ready for next weekend's monster trail running. Seems I am working towards doing the b2b trail runs on weekends and trying to go longer and longer. One friend suggested I'm walking a thin line but going beyond 50k is not my intention (for now.) I'm just having a ton of fun.

BBS--nice looking bluegill in your avatar! Is that from yesterday?

Jill--sounds like a fun weekend.

"Rest" day here. Hubby came down this morning to find me mopping the kitchen floor. Something get spilled? No, just getting started on Monday chores. Uh, it's Tuesday. Yesterday was a holiday. Oh......... More playing in the dirt on tap for today. Heading to the garden store in a few to buy another couple flats for the back garden. Oh, and "Monday" laundry. Load three is already in the washer.

Good morning all!

What a great week-end! I spent the weekend camping with the family. I was able to get in two nice open water swims both over a mile and two runs of 4.5 and 6 miles. Along with all the other activities it was a fun filled weekend.

30.6 mile bike ride for me this morning at conversational speed. I am racing this weekend so it will be a quick taper week.

BBS - Yep, Summer is here. Close to 100 today and tomorrow and going to be high 90's for race on Saturday.

Jill / 4BM - Enjoy your rest day.

BBS - have a good 4 and all the best to you and DW this week

Jill - nice job on the trails, those back to backs on the hills do sound tough

4boys - at least the weekend is one day closer :)

Hopefully I can get a strength/core session in today, we'll see.

zrun - Nice job on the 5K yesterday. 5Ks are tough, it took me forever to break that 20 min mark; it seemed like race after race would be 20:xx and then finally I broke it. Once Ibroke 20 min 5K I ended up breaking 19 and then 18 within just a few short months. Sometimes I think it is all mental.

Looks like a lot of people are taking their Monday rest days today. But I did rest yesterday so back at 'em today. It's hot here too...headed for somewhere around 95 as the high. That sounds like a good enough excuse to wait until evening...I'm thinking trails again but on a flat course and at an easy pace. I need to taper and gather my strength for the beast known as North Face this Sunday.

BBS - good luck on the new baby front...you sure are a busy guy this week.

Jill - are you training for anything or just increasing your fitness base?

4BM - enjoy the "rest" day. We put in a bunch of tomatoes yesterday; after starting 50+ in peat pots last month, almost all sprouted but I think maybe half of those made the cut and actually got planted.

Dave - glad you enjoyed the weekend and enjoy the taper week. Oddly enough I always do.

zrun - speaking of short races in heat & humidity, I had one too on Sunday, a 3000m on the track. After 13 trail miles the day before I was gassed on lap 2. Got a bit of a "singlet sunburn" too (shoulders).

Hawk & BBS - taper well

zrun - nice job on the 5k hardware and have fun pumping iron today I've found that I can typically run a reasonable 5k despite the weather. Beyond the 5k in hot humid conditions it's a total crapshoot.

Dave - Nice ride. Whenever I've made gains in my 5k times it's been in 20-30 second chunks. Going sub 20 was not a problem from day 1. Getting under 18 is something different. I just don't have the ability to hold 5:40s. We shall see if I can switch up my training and get a break though in the Fall as I've been stuck in the 18:20-18:30 range for a few years.

4boysmom - I'm not sure you ever rest.

Jill - I'm feeling all tired just thinking about those trail runs. A well deserved rest day for you.

I didn't sleep well and my legs are sore. That meant no morning run. I'm tempted to get on the TM this afternoon to finish the month by adding something to my merger mileage total. Probably not a good idea but we shall see. Depends on how depressing work becomes throughout the day. I'm also considering going teetotal for June as I need to loose a few lbs (DW will argue this point) and maybe start feeling better.

That sucks! Hopefully the Dr gives you some good drugs to kill the disease/sickness quickly!

BOOOO to sickness! Not fair, you've worked too hard for this!

And believe me, I feel your pain, I've been there. But if the doc says you can do it, then trust me you will no matter what and even if it's not your best day...remember my Boston Marathon story from a few years ago?

It was 97 here at lunchtime. According to weather.com that's where it still is now. Planning to leave work and run at the lake in an hour or so. Near the water it might be a cool 94 or so.

Apple--NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Feel better soon!

About the same here. Looks like an end to those afternoon runs at the park while son1 is at class!

Managed to get two flats planted. Just got back from the garden store with a third. Planting that will have to wait until tomorrow. This weather is just taking it out of me. Suspect it will be a very easy week even though I hadn't planned on tapering for this race.

thanks guys & I know it happens but still it could have been any other race, just not this one.

Doc was concerned about amount of fluids I lost (3 lbs in a week) and told me I probably shouldn't run but said if I play it smart I might be ok. Lot's of bananas, rice, gatorade, & applesauce once I can keep food down. I think she realized I was going so told me to be smart and don't push it. Took blood so don't know if it's lyme but it sure feels like a really bad case of the flu or lyme. I don't have any rings but had it before and I feel the same as last time.

I am going to bed for next two days and will rest and drink fluids. DH wants me to bag it but he doesn't run & knows I am hard headed. Flying out Thursday & Sunday is the race. I will try to post on Thursday to update and I will be sure to post my run results whatever they turn out to be.

Lake run done, just one 4.5 mile loop, nice and slow. It actually wasn't too bad, probably 10 degrees cooler down near the water.

After I got home DW & I headed out for another 2.5 walking through the neighborhood.
