4.52 miles in 71F. 8:09 pace. I need an anchor to slow me down! I have got to get the speed thing under control or the ole hip will flare up again.

And this temp...71F at 5am in MN, in MAY? What is up with that? Maybe July or August, but this is ridiculous.

Good running to all.

Nice job Todd...where are you at in MN? It's pretty warm constantly here in central WI as well.

Today is my last hard practice before state, and whatever coach says, it will probably not be that. I'm doing probably 6-8 200s. Next 2 days are just trot around days.

Todd, I went to college in Minnesota, and I seem to remember 4 seasons: 2 weeks of nostalgia-inducing-crispy-delicious-fall, 7 months of freeze-your-ass-off, two weeks of awakening-to-a-new-life-springtime-bliss, and four months of devoured-by-mosquitos.

Still need to get off my lazy behind and get going. Crosstraining today.

jebba - Are you saying you have a problem with Minnesota's state bird the mosquito. In the Twin Cities area it was amazing like bad - I blame all the auto sprinklers and "perfect" lawns.

7 easy @ lunch. After a rest day Sunday and a slacker day yesterday 8:09 pace was really relaxing and comfortable. Must have been all the carb loading yesterday.

70 and sunny. Perfect.

Everyone have a great day!

Mine does not have levels, it has steps per minute? I waver in what i think is harder with the stepper, fast steps or long hard ones.

Merigayle,
I have the old Stairmaster 4000PT-it's over 10 years old. I'm worried it may not last too much longer. It has lv 1-20 and METs-I think it has steps/min but I don't look at that. I usually do the interval or speed training workouts. It really gets my HR up. I can't figure out if stepping longer/harder or faster/stepper is better either!

5 very hot/sticky miles.

In this kind of weather, do any of you swell up like the goodyear blimp during/after a workout?
I've got snausages for fingers & toes right now; and my rings won't even TWIRL on my fingers, much less come off.

Sorry WTPJ can't say I do...but I sure do feel like poop. Felt about the same as yesterday. I think a season of work has caught up with me and that my 3 SUPER easy days will get me ready for the big day on Friday.

Today's workout was 5:00 run where I got 1400m so around 5:45 pace, then 4x400 with 1:30 rest in 1:10, 1:11, 1:10, and 1:10. They all felt sooo hard. I just feel out of shape and not psyched up for my race at all. Maybe I just need more rest and ibue.

WTPJ - I can't believe it...only 3 more days!!! I am definitely bringing my camera for this kickrunner gathering.

Hi all!

Great running today folks! Keep it up!

All that talk of Minnesota weather and mosquitoes brings me back to my days in Fairbanks, Alaska. 8 months of winter, 2 weeks of spring, 3 months of rough sledding, and 2 weeks of fall. And mosquitoes? Up there you need a big game license to hunt them! They're huge!

ToddEP - Eden Prairie - Lots of good college hockey players come out of Eden Prairie. See that town's name often when looking at college hockey rosters.

Anyway, today's plan called for 9 miles with 4 at LT pace (current 15K to 1/2 mile pace). There was a problem though. Earlier today, I had to take some Advil while I was at work (a bit of a headache). The problem with taking Advil for me is that it lowers my heart rate. When I got out there tonight, I literally thought there was something wrong with my HRM when during the first mile it was only reading 137 for a while. And when I went sub-8:00 for mile 2 and had a HR in the high 140s, I was thinking to myself "Something is very wrong there." I was breathing hard, but the HR wasn't really responding.

My max HR is 203 (did that twice last summer), so I knew I had to get the HR around 180 to be close to LT (I'm guessing about 90% of max would put me at LT). In order to do that tonight I had to run the 4 miles considerably faster than my 1/2 marathon race pace. Honestly, it was probably closer to either my 5 mile pace or my 10K pace. Two of the miles were sub-7:00 which is unheard of for me on a run over 5 miles. The other 2 hard miles were just a couple seconds over the 7:00 mark (in fact, if it wasn't for traffic during those two miles, where I had to slow and make sure it was safe to cross, I would have broken 7:00 on all 4 miles. No doubt about it).

Tomorrow could be a tough day. The legs are going to be a bit tired after today's effort, and tomorrow I've got 14 miles on the trail.

HOME 10 MILE LOOP WITH LAST 0.9 CUT OFF.

Plan tonight was 9 with 4 at LT pace (race pace for 15K to half-marathon).

The 4 miles at speed were much faster than that pace, but it was necessary to get my HR to the LT range.

WTPJ -

I usually don't get the snausage fingers type thing. What I often find happening in warm weather is the end of my fingers getting very hard. Not sure if that's the same thing you're encountering, but it happens to be often in warm weather.
