Morning Peeps. Can't believe there's no one up and at um yet.

Well, yesterday I was stepping over a doggie gate I use to keep my pup out of the kitchen. Got the first foot over fine but the trailing leg missed the mark. It was one of those slow mo experiences as I feel to the floor landing on my left knee. Pretty sore and limping. Guess I'm taking a few days off.

Good morning all.

Dan - Heal up brother.

BBS - Hope the run goes well.

Me - 33 mile bike ride this morning. I tried to maintain 20+ on the outbound leg and then once I got to the end I did 8 x 1 min hill repeats. Legs where feeling every bit of it. The inbound leg was much more difficult as the wind was beginning to pick up. It was a nice little headwind and as we got closer to the end it kept getting stronger. I was pulling at 18-19 mph and once we broke through the tree line to the open field and airfield the wind was brutal. The overall ride averaged 18.2 mph.

Dan--I have so done that! Once while carrying a baby I babysat. I tried to slow the fall by dragging the inside of my leg along the top of the gate. Bruising doesn't begin to describe it!

BBS--bummer on the OT

David--nice little spin there!

fuller--nice workout

Haven't run yet. 45* and rain, so not sure if I'll actually get out there and run. However, I have gone grocery shopping. Spread 30lbs of grass seed where we regraded. Found a bunch more low spots. Fixed the downspout, need to replace the top but not heading to the hardware store looking like this! Since it was cool enough I moved the woodpile off the front porch. With all the ground bee activity in and out of the pile I was expecting to find a hive and didn't want to face them when they were at full speed. No hive found. Did find we had a rodent nesting there over the winter. Gingerly moved it hoping I wouldn't find any babies! All in all, not feeling to bad after staying up past midnight helping son2 iwth a paper.

Taking the day off. I think I'm going to write off this month as the wheels have just about fallen off. Not sure what I was thinking as this was always supposed to be a cutback month. Overall, it's a bad sign as I have a sea of races coming up from May 28th through the end of June. Great! Anyway, I plan to go to track tomorrow evening to see if that can spark some life into me.

4boysmom - busy busy... care to help me with a small ant problem we are having?

kfuller - nice job on the faster finish to those intervals

Dave - Sounds like quite a workout! What's up with the wind this Spring?

BBS - I haven't been paid for "overtime" in more years than I care to remember. However; it's give and take. Enjoy the 7.

Dan - Reading the tea leaves, I do not see the 400m hurdles in your future. Hope it's not too bad.

Morning all,

Well I did take yesterday off after all so it's back to it today. It looks like we're in for intermittent heavy rains all day long, so I'm probably headed across the street to the gym for TM work. Since I can't do trails today I'd like to simulate that if I can, either by doing one of the programmed hill workouts or one from McMillan that I did a few months ago that went pretty well.

It's looking like 7 or so for the day. Meeting with our financial advisor at home tonight, so no chance to double up and add volume.

Dan - at least there wasn't a water pit after that hurdle. Ice it up and hopefully you'll be back quicker than you expect.

BBS - have a good 7, that's probably my number today too. I know what you mean about having to squeeze it in during busy weeks.

Dave - nice ride, you cycling beast.

kevin - nice job on the repeats. +1 to what RA said on getting faster each one.

4bm - busy morning already. Have a good run later.

RA - I was ruminating this morning about how my running in May hasn't been what I've expected either. Life/work demands have kept my weekly mileage in the 20s so far. Way too many missed days, and I've got a trail half on 6/5. Now I've got just 2 weeks to put in some solid training and then it's taper time. Certainly not how I drew it up. Oh well.

kfuller - Nice workout! Great job.

For the rest of you, have a good run or enjoy your rest day whichever the case may be.

Me - Lunchtime swim call for an 800 meter time trial and a total of 1800 meters. I decided I would get a nice warm-up in of 800 meters doing various drills. I took a 2 min break and then started my 800m TT. It felt good from the time I started until I was finished. I was pushing pretty hard to maintain a good pace, I started to slow a bit after about lap 12 by lap 15 I was really beginning to feel the pace and was happy it was over by the final lap. I checked my time...yep...a new PR for me at 800 meter by almost 50 seconds. This years workouts are really beginning to payoff. I hate to swim but I love workouts like this.

Dan--uh, yah, you might wanna forget hurdles. Just sayin'

Finally got out for a run. Can't say it was mountain top high, nor was it a death march. They took the road reclaimer to the main road, so that quarter mile was tricky. They also did my short cut, so I knew that I'd have to do the whole thing today. Ug... Felt decent. Although, I can certainly tell that I've been hammering pretty hard all month. Four weeks 'til my first tri. I'm a-thinkin' I need to lay low and recover. 4.5m, 8:41pace

Hi everyone. Dan- ouch! I hope you feel better soon.

BBS- I hope the overtime slows down when the baby comes.

Today I went to the Y, but didn't feel like getting on the treadmill, so I decided to crank up the music on my phone and run on the indoor track (19 laps = one mile). It was actually a nice change of pace, and good practice for tomorrow's 5k at the prison. 7 miles total.

I would think this is worse than the TM. Ouch 133 laps, you didn't get tired of making left hand turns did you?

Well, the room is always a little too warm where the treadmills are, so I end up overheating. At least I could watch folks playing pick up basketball while I ran.

Unlike jebba I went for the steam bath of the TM this afternoon.

I decided to try simulating a trail run and picked out a program called "Alpine Pass." Hmm...sounds potentially challenging. Set the max pace at 9.0 and max grade at 8%. The higher the grade, the slower the speed, so at 8% I was going something like 6.7 which is barely under a 9:00 pace, compared to 9.0 which is 6:40. The machine would only let me go 30 minutes, so at the end I stopped it and restarted the program for another 15, but this time increased the max pace to 9.2 (6:31/mile). All told, 5.81 miles in a total of 46:28 including the short walk cooldown at the very end.

Fun little workout. Not sure how much real simulation of trail running that was, but it did at least give me a good sense of how paces change at different grades while maintaining consistent effort. And I do think that will come in handy for North Face next month.
