The last few days, DW has been studying hard for the National Mortgage Broker exam which she takes later today. This newly required national test is sort of like closing the barn door after the cows have gotten out since she has been doing mortgages for a decade or so.

Anyway, last evening she was across the house taking a sample test when I heard some unintelligible screaming/angry loud words. When she came out of her "cave" I asked what that was all about.

She said one of the sample questions was:

Question: "What is the Regulation Act Number that established " some obscure Mortgage ruling I know nothing about.

Answer Choices: Act 31, 32, 33, or 34

DW's loud outburst was something along the lines of "Who The H*** Cares?!"

Our Government at work ....

I had a really good run this morning. I went to meet up with the local Running Club, but some had apparently left earlier or later and some decided to not come at all. So I ran by myself. I decided to run 7 miles with miles 4, 5, and 6 at tempo pace.

At about mile 2 a little rain cloud came through and drenched me thoroughly (as if I wasn't already!) The Tempo miles came in at 8:04, 7:54, and 7:49. Felt strong the whole time. 8:31 overall pace - 7 miles in just less than an hour.

While I was running the faster parts I passed a guy and a girl who were moving along very slowly. I run and train with the girl once in a while since we run very similar paces. She is a tiny thing who is usually about 95 pounds soaking wet. But right now she is very pregnant and due like ... today or tomorrow. Really. But she was out there run/walking to keep in shape. I love runners ...

Morning all -

I have been running, but internet access has not been working well enough to post. This morning did 3 miles in my neighbor hood hills.. I'm tired of the hills... lol Nice run in Salem this weekend on flatter ground, 3.25 miles.. have a made a decsion. I'm to train for a half marathon. I feel like I'm running strong, parts are working well & just wanna! :D Thinking Hal Higdon Novice or Intermediate Plan depending on where I'm at when I need to start.

OM - do the running club!! So on Weight Watchers.. you can always do online tools & they have a free message boards for support if you don't want to do meetings. That is the approach I've taken.

Tom - I am always impressed when you post about pool running, I only ever wanted to kill myself when I did it.

Busy day today so after being blown out the back last Tuesday I took revenge on everyone today and really put the hammer down. The results were some of the fastest reps I have ever done. Coming home I learned there is a 10 mile TT tomorrow which I can do so I hope this session does not stay in my legs. Ran 6.5miles at 7mm during my lunch break and that felt good. All go here.

Well, not as well as as I'd like to be.

At the last minute, I opted out of my last weekend fastpack

My piriformis is still being naughty. Insult to injury -no need to make it worse.

Can't believe I did the 50k on that one day window with no negative feed back at the start or end and then

a couple short easy-ish runs on the following days brought the aggravation back to the fore.

Could I run on it now? If my life or sanity depended on it.

But for the moment, I can chill.

Though chillin's no fun. I need dirt, rocks, roots, briers, birds, bugs, trees, weeds, sky, miles to happy be.

Reading Pie's copy of Tales from Out There about the Barkley Marathons - goot stuff!

Good Luck to MrsReger with her exam!

Nice run for you Bill and good for that running girl for keeping with her running during her pg.

congrats Linda on the decision to run a half...now do you know which half you are wanting to run? Do you think you'd be ready by the time GP HM is here?(mid november). It's nice and flat. I followed Higdon's Novice plan for my first few HM's and for my first M. 4 days a week is do-able for me. 5 isn't and that is what his intermediate plans call for I believe. I was sometimes running a bit more than what his 4 days/week called for but I figured I'd rather go over a little then undertrain, which is what would have happened with the Intermediate one.

I wonder if Tom is starting to feel like a fish a tank? you know, those fish in the tank on Finding Nemo were a little whacked. If he starts making bubbles in the pool and chasing them, we'll know it's too late. . . .

Hi JJ! Sorry to hear your piriformis is acting up. I hope you get out there with your dirt and bugs soon . . . and leave all shiny things behind.

I'll work on staying on Gobi's good side. I don't want any revenge or hammers thrown my way.

5.1 on the track last night. temps were about mid/upper 80's but felt warmer on that black track. And the breeze was hot so did absolutely nothing to cool me off.

Whew! Thanks for checking in, Triple J! Glad you're back.

Rinda, yay!

6.1 miles for me today, including 3x1000 at a very slow pace. Baby steps, quad still whining about the injustice of it all.

Thanks for all the good BD wishes yesterday!

So I missed JJJ's 50K and Dove's 40 miler?! Just incredible...

GL on the 10 miler tomorrow, Gobi.

Rindy - you'll love the Half! I signed up for one on the Cape this Oct.

After 2 days of running I decided to return to the elliptical machine today for 30' and followed that up with some lifting and core work. This psoas problem or whatever it is isn't going away willingly and I don't want to aggravate it more. Deep tissue massage scheduled for tomorrow,

No workout for me today -- I had PT for my wonky hips. It's just as well as the temp is really unbearable out there, with high heat and humidity. We had big thunderstorms yesterday and I was hopeful it would cool things off, but that didn't happen.

Tomorrow I'm going to treadmill for a few slow miles. Good thing I've got some new tuneage on my ipod. DH loaded up a few favorite songs for me.

BTW, the Santana / Winwood concert was incredible on Sunday night! We were up in the nosebleed section but the acoustics were excellent and it was shady and had a nice breeze, so we were very comfortable despite the 97 degrees it was when the concert started. When the wind was right, we could smell the sweet smell of a certain herb from the uppermost rows of seats. We left just before the end of the show because I didn't want to get stuck in horrible traffic. There's only one road leading out from the Jones Beach Theater and there were over 7000 cars needing to use it. Better to miss the last 2 songs rather than sitting in a parking lot waiting to move for over an hour.

Hello all. Thanks for the encouragement about the running group, but I've decided to wait, at least one more week. The Tuesday evening workout is listed as speedwork, and with my left hamstring still not 100%, I think it's wise to remain slow and steady as I've been doing. Well, the slow part I have no control over. The steady makes me happy. So there.

5.5 miles in the park today, a bit slower than usual, and feeling a bit fatigued toward the end of it. I haven't officially started the Weight Watchers either (MrOM said he bring home the paperwork for me, since he does at work), but I have been cutting back my calories, and maybe that's taking its toll? I looked at the FitDay website this morning (Tammy, I think I recall you mentioning you had done that), but the navigation and detail involved is just too overwhelming. I know how to keep track of my food, and how to choose wisely as to what I eat. The problem is that I haven't been doing that. So now I am.

Oh, and according to FitDay's calculated BMI for me, I'm obese. I'm 5'2" and weigh 140, and currently wear a size 6. I'd like to get back to my regular size 4, if not a size 2 (that's what's mostly in my closet). I'll be there once I drop 15 pounds, if not 20. There, I've said it.

Glad you're back, JJJ. Having been out of touch myself, I didn't know you were away or why. Recover wisely, as you always do. Byll, nice story about the expectant runner. I only wish I was that smart (i.e. a runner) when I was having my babies.

I'm with you on the BMI nonsense OrangeMat. It says I'm borderline obese too. Whatever...

Good luck Linda on the HM training. It would be cool if you could be ready for the GP HM. I might come out of race retirement for that one.

I have to drive to Seattle after work for a presentation I am giving tomorrow to a group of people who I have no idea what they do. They're a 'buying group', and the topic is on institutional kitchen sanitation. Should be thrilling... I am going to stop along the way and do an easy run somewhere.

I guess Weight Watchers is one of the better programs. Go big on quality, less on quantity. Little things too. Like that chocolate milk recovery? Watch the sugar and fat content. A better choice might be Chocolate Almond Milk. There's an unsweetened one that you can control the amount of sugar (apparently you do NOT want it as is).

Just snarfed red quinoa, asparagus, pine nuts, tomatoes, olives, onion, garlic; a bit of shaved parmesan. I'll join some of you and drop a few lbs before my next marathon. Guess I'd better find out how much I weigh now to know what to lose.

I stopped in Woodland, WA to run, mostly because they have a Burgerville. 6 miles at 7:48/mi and a Tillamook Cheese Burger. I'm the yang to San Souci's yin.

Hey, Lab, I too had a burger, a rather large onion cheeseburger after my run. This morning, before work, I did my lifting. After work, I hopped on the treadmill and did the "hillwork" I was originally scheduled to do a week ago. Brooke said try it if I felt like it. It was pretty intense as far as cardio but my calf and heel didn't bother me. Of course, PF is pretty insidious so it'll sneak up and hurt me later, like first thing in the morning. Anyway, after 1.5 mile warmup, I did 4 x 45 sec. with the incline set to 6% @8:00, jogging a little between, 3 sets with a 2 min. rest between sets and I stretched during that. 1.5 mile cooldown that felt really good.
