Rise and shine campers!

So, back in Chicago. 75F and 95% humidity, which will decrease into the 60% range later. Great. Plodded through 9 miles. I've completely lost my mojo. Perhaps it's a midlife crisis or perhaps just the grim realisation that I'm now slow?

40 miles of hills this morning on the bike! You gotta love hills; 17.5 for an average! Legs are feeling the burn!

RA- old? You're still a spring chicken. Buy a Corvette if you think is MLC, I think its this humidity thats got a lot of people slowed down right now.

Kevin- Hope the easy run goes well

Wow,,, I am gone for a few weeks and come back and it's a whole new site.. I guess that's what I get for stepping away for a period of time.

Well, Lyme disease is almost gone and I don't feel any residual effects. I still have one more week on the meds but today was my first run since the diagnosis. Felt good except feels like I lost a lot of condition. I wasn't at peak when I got sick but still I am starting over. Since this was my first run in 3 weeks I only did 2 miles but it was easy and it felt good to stretch the legs. I know I won't be ready for my two target races (aug. & sept) but oh well atleast I do feel good and I can set new goals.

It's good to be back even if someone did change the "furniture" in here!!

Today is Day 1 of marathon training. I ran 7.3 miles at a decent clip and it felt great. Hope that's a good indicator of what's to come. This will be a fun 19 weeks for me.

Morning all,

Well, my rest day yesterday ended up staying a rest day, despite me packing a bag for a run "just in case" the opportunity to do one came about. I think that's about the 5th time in a row that's happened. Oh well, the bag's still packed for today. I may even get out twice. For sure, I will do intervals either this evening or this afternoon. Today will be my hard day prior to racing another 5k on Friday night.

I didn't sleep so well last night so hopefully that will make me good & tired tonight and I'll sleep like a rock.

Apple - great to see you back and so glad you're improving!

Jill - Day 1, nicely done. I'm holding off for 2 more weeks.

RA - take a run through the south side of town, that'll help you increase your speed.

Dave - nice ride. I can't do that...yet. but I'm working on it.

Dan - way to step it up.

JD/kevin - good job on the 5

BBS - good luck with those quarters

vash - great job! I'm running the Philadelphia Marathon.

Hawk - I was thinking about it on my run, weeks of training. I suppose this next month is more about increasing my weekly mileage from what it's been (30's) and less about the meat of the training. For me, the 12 weeks before taper are the real meat of the cycle. But, I figure it's better to start following a regimented plan now versus the haphazard way I've been running lately.

Nice running all! I love reading what everyone's up to even if I don't have a chance to reply.

Last evening was the first day of VBS. We're doing Saddle Ridge Ranch. For wahtever reason I thought it would be a good idea to wear my cowboy boots. I used to wear them all the time in high school but havent' worn them in, oh, 25yrs. Let's just say I wont' be wearing them tonight!!!

Longish ride for me this morning. Had planned to ride with son1--first ride together since his return--however he decided to take apart his hub. THings went "bink" and I ended up riding solo. Very fun little spin! About 200% humidity, overcast, and no wind moving at all. Coach had been limiting me to 90mins but today, I was on my own and got to do what I wanted! Rode through three little towns and had a blast! At my TA I was at 17mph, back at the van 17.4, so obviously a nice negative split! 45miles total. I'm LOVIN' this!!!

edit to add--I posted my Caeser Creek race report over in multi-sport if'n you wanna check it out!

Yeah, I know what you mean! "Haphazard" is a very good description for my training of late too, other than the ironclad commitment I've made to get in a hard track workout each week, and run a 5k race every 2 weeks or so. Everything else is TBD week to week. That was probably the right thing to do for a while - after Boston I really needed some recovery time - but I'm now actually looking forward to getting back on a structured plan (even if it's one I totally design on my own, as always).

Ugh...steamy humid afternoon run in the treeless office park. I started out under clouds and with a little breeze but then those both disappeared midway through and the HR promptly spiked up.

Luckily the purpose of this run was just to get loose for a track session later, so I was plenty happy to pull the plug on this one at 4.8 miles.

Feels like a really bad case of the flu and your joints ache like arthritis. Takes about a week to recover when you start taking antibiotics but I think I procrastinated a little longer because I was too chicken to face the 100 plus temps last week.

Glad to see you are getting some running in !!

Well, I took an Aleve and tried to go for it. I was supposed to do 9 miles, with 4 miles tempo. I did 2 miles tempo and just fizzled out. So 5 miles total.

Run #2 of the day done. I had to bag the track workout because of heavy storms - may do it tomorrow. Instead I hit the TM at home for the first time in a while and did a progression run. Ended up doing 7 miles in 58:00 flat, 8:17/mile. Averaged over a run that started with a 10:00/mile jog pace and added 0.1 mph per lap, not too bad. Finished at 6:53/mile pace. 12 miles total for the day.
